    Bro, let’s rubbish that fact that some white people came and discovered some places in our African continent. How were they first to discover it when our ancestors already live there? Even though the place might be unoccupied due to their small population at the time, our ancestors did know and owned the so called discovered places. It’s time for us to challenge some of the history(lies) we’re told!!!

    • @adetorrent
      @adetorrent 5 лет назад +42

      Yeah that's a bit of a problem in the African educational system, which is still quite colonial even today.
      Obviously there were Africans living on the Island already, as they were in Cape Verde and other nearby islands. Just like there were Africans living all around River Niger, Lake "Victoria", Mount Kilimanjaro and so on.. but the textbooks will tell you Mongo Park discovered this, Cecil Rhodes discovered that. That was because nothing was *discovered* until known to a European. That was the mentality. Not just in Africa - see, apparently Christopher Columbus "discovered" America (which is a clearly moronic claim)
      There needs to be an overhaul of the *language* in the education system for sure.

    plus goree were discover by this ethnic group call THIEDO before they were any religion in Senegal.

How often do you see Indians , Chinese and Germans using someone else language apart from theirs in a global stage ? It’s only Africans felling proud using someone else language. I’m not saying we shouldn’t be linguistic, we need languages to do business in the motherland (Africa) but , we have to have a unified religion, education, development etc etc as sub Sahara Africans.

    This vlog reminds me of my primary Social Studies classes.
    Question:Why is not right to say that John Speke discovered the source of River Nile ?
    Answer: It's because the natives had already confirmed so.

      Ulysse H Actually it’s falsified Western dogma enforced in the Prussian school system to enforce colonization which only deals with European history and accounts from the 16th century. Europeans were not even alive for as long as Africans so there is no way they could discover an island in Africa that was already there with the natives of the land.

    Goree island was already occuped by the Lebu tribe ( fishermen ) long time before the portuguese arrived here.
    ////
    The Island of Goree is an exceptional testimony to one of the greatest tragedies in the history of human societies: the slave trade. The various elements of this “memory island” fortresses, buildings, streets, squares, etc. recount, each in its own way, the history of Gorée which, from the 15th to the 19th century, was the largest slave-trading centre of the African coast.
    The house of slaves was built by the dutch in 1776.
    ////
    I think you should go there to have more information about it because its an important part of African history.
    ////
    IM MAAAAYAAAA🆙️ African brother from Sweden.

  • @ericb.1902
    @ericb.1902 5 лет назад +10

    The sister talking with Wode Maya was beautiful and the whole of Senegal is just breathtaking and beautiful..... now my only complaint is that since goree Island was named by our colonizers then why keep the name if we want to be totally free from oppression we must give up these European names that was given to us by the ones who enslaved us, tortured us and sold us and also many people do not know this but Senegal along with many African nations has to pay taxes to France because of slavery ending and they have to make money off of Africans by any means
    so if we call ourselves free Africans then we must break ties with these evil Europeans 100% and not halfway.🤔

    Let's just do some rectification about discovery...1st of all, please dont blame the lady in the video...she is right she just telling what she been taught at school...I'm Senegalese living in London and yeah when I was in school they taught us that the Portuguese were the 1st to discover Goree Island but here "Discover " simply means that the Portuguese are the 1st European among others ( French, german, English, Hollandese, spanish...) to step in this island so it doesn't necessarily means there were no black ppl living there. Indeed ppl were already living in that island! With that being said...I wanna thanks wode Maya for visiting Goree island and for doing such a beautiful job for "Africa to the world" ...looking forward to seeing part2 of Goree island cause there is still so much to show and tell about this Island...please go to the house of slavery there is a tourist guide who are gonna tell the history specially talk about the slavery both in French and English...its important to show that so that our brothers and sisters who live in the Caribbean and the afro-American can learn a lot about their origins.....thanks again and God bless you
    Keep up the good work...1 love to you bro I am out....and welcome.e to Senegal anytime again!
