Never had CED back in the day, but if I would have heard that intro as a kid I would have come running. It screams 'It's movie time' as loud as the popcorn popper.
When I was a little kid I had war of the worlds on video disc and the first jingle preceded the intro to war of the worlds....not gonna lie it was somewhat terrifying
A lot of the movies I had on video discs had the second intro. "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Saturday Night Fever" had the first intro. "A Fist Full of Dollars", "Dumbo", "North to Alaska" and "Tron" all had the second intro.
Love it. Our first video player was the RCA Selectavision CED PLAYER. (July, 1982) The excitement of watching our favorite programs uncut with no commercials. Our first CED Disk came with the player. It was "On Golden Pond" 1981 movie. First time we ever seen that movie. It was a lot better than we expected. I still have dozens of CED's. And the player. But the player needs work. We didn't get our first VCR until 1984. The CED seemed to have better picture and sound. But was prone to skipping.
Even new discs skipped. Horrible format. LaserDisc was the way better alternative but it was 10x as expensive (especially due to the need of a HeNe-laser tube). It broke down when video rental shops came up everywhere. Then the cost effectiveness of a pressed vinyl disc compared to a video tape wasn't important anymore.
ahh, memories.. skipping frame fun! remembers pulling the video record disc out to mess it up worse because it had scratches.. lmfao! eh, the early 80s. no way man, gunna have flashbacks now. or modify the chasis so you can 'bear down' on the needle and then ya get snow on the screen. lmfao, didn't have solid humor like that with laser or vhs. then again.. uh CED had a special 'fail magic' to it... ahhh, then thomson consumer electronics chimed in and it was all over. oh well.
I was walking through the parking lot to my apartment and I’m pretty sure I heard someone playing this on trumpet. Either I’m going crazy, or I’m not the only person in my complex who knows what SelectaVision is
@@pompousFurball That one was funny,,, thx intro made me think of how the audience went CRAZY seeing that in front of RETURN OF THE JEDI,, the atari commercial too.. AND VADER THROWING PALPATINE DOWN THE SHAFT..
Forget the movie, I just want to get up and clap for thr RCA CED intros!

I say bring it back!. DVDs and BlueRays should began like this. As U said it screams "It's movie time!"
They do already. =D
Well put

Only those who grew up during this time can appreciate the state-of-the-art technology of its time...
Nothing says "state-of-the-art" like a product that failed on release _because_ it was outdated ruclips.net/video/PnpX8d8zRIA/видео.html
That first jingle is so good. Imagine that in front of Alien, Terminator or some other really good 80s movie.
A lot of the movies I had on video discs had the second intro. "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Saturday Night Fever" had the first intro. "A Fist Full of Dollars", "Dumbo", "North to Alaska" and "Tron" all had the second intro.
That is actually a slightly modified piece of Mussorgsky's promenades
That's Modest Mussorgsky baBEY!
War of the worlds....and it scared the shit out of me as a little kid

Both openings are pure magic
I remember both of these! Been trying to found out where the first one came from for years, didn't know it was a format-specific intro.
Back when these were popular anytime you'd see and hear the fanfare, no matter which one, it means "Get the soda, get the popcorn! IT'S MOVIE TIME!"
Loved seeing this again- makes me remember some fond childhood memories
I remember when these were popular, I was born in 1982.
My mum has born in 1948
At 0:00, the music was called the electronic version of Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition by Isao Tomita!
Or Pikmi Pops Soundtrack Plus
THANK YOU, FOR GOD'S SAKE, THAN YOU, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I LIVED ALL THIS TIME WITHOUT THIS ALBUM (Ironically also released by RCA)

CED had the same resolution as a VHS tape. 240 lines.

the first one goes from 90s to 80s to 70s
The first one just makes me feel good inside
Beautiful... just beautiful (especially the music)
The good old days, The popcorn popper popping in the kitchen and the RCA videodisc fanfare playing on the TV. Those sounds say "IT'S MOVIE TIME"
love that intro on CED disks..... vale RCA and CED
Second intro was used on the Wrath of Khan disc. First was used on The Odd Couple.
The second one was used on our "North to Alaska" disk and on the "Dumbo" disk. The first on "Fiddler on the Roof".

it's crazy how Laserdisc and ced almost bankrupted RCA when here we are 35 years later and Laserdiscs son the DVD is the golden standard
I was walking through the parking lot to my apartment and I’m pretty sure I heard someone playing this on trumpet. Either I’m going crazy, or I’m not the only person in my complex who knows what SelectaVision is
Nah, the original tune is from Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky which is played on trumpet
Use your VHS vcr videorecorders and blank VHS tapes to get even with the news media and tell your friends to just use their vcr videorecorders
Not sure who did the first logo but the second is by Robert Abel and Associates
SOUNDS LIKE A MUSICAL LIKE CALLED IT OPERA AND ORCHESTRA!!!!!!
Oh great rca logo
You know this is actually based on a real song a real classical song
still got few movies for selectavision.
Doodadoodadooooooo
Takes U back 2 old school!
What is the name of the second track?
Judging by the lack of anybody saying it anywhere I'm going to assume that it's something that RCA made internally
