About Zangief vs Momochi, and the comments on bad match ups for gief. It is in part the nature of Gief's play style, specially in SF6 since they respected how scary he is supposed to feel up close to you. a Gief battle is supposed to be threatening, but uphill, which it is, and can turn around the match in a few blows or grabs, which it does. Gief players say they have tons of bad match ups because its always an up hill battle for them. Players who battle Gief say he is the best, because how scary he is in this game. I think truth is somewhere in between, Gief is powerful as he should be, but limited as he should be,l. Gief can get wrecked, or snatch the victory away from you if he gets his hands on you. Perfect balance for his archetype.
I can see why he need green hand in SF5, especially the game is after SF4 where green hand is one of the best moves. However with drive rush in SF6 there is really no need to add green hand
I don't know why some people can't wrap their heads around the idea that Green Hand is an iconic part of Gief and so people want to see it lol. It's like asking why people would want Tatsumaki back if they ever replaced it with something that serves a similar function.
Yeah it's like people asking for air potbuster in strive. Strive is too grounded for it to function there and Pot can't route into it without spending meter but people want it anyways.
Repeating information outs a great way to help people learn too. It can get silly for gets watching, but for me, I remember him repeating it alot, which let's,e recall it more easily in my own games.
You can tell Sajam is a top level commentator because he can analyse the game AND the players expressions at the same time.his build has maxed out "attention to detail" stats
Thank you Sajam for posting these vods of the tourney. Im having a blast waking up to see a new vid and watch all the character specialists sweep house.
Do I hear "Aw dangit!" in my head every time someone gets a low crush, or wall pressure wrong guess, or a whiff oki? Yes. Do I blame Sajam entirely? 100%
Klobber-ayan needs to go EVO and the next EWC qualifiers. This is the perfect moment to capitalise on the Gief buffs combined with his godlike Zangief play style.

I was thinking it would be sick if Zangief Tundra Storm'd the Akuma and then Sajam said "Imagine if he Tundra Storm'd him on the Medium Kicks.". Sajam you trickster, find where I forgot some dollar bills while you're taking residence in my mind.
I do wish Tundra Storm was like... a Kick Counter, but if it was a non-kick strike, it would just like... parry or something. Then it would be more fun to fish with it. That would probably be too good tho.
@@verfuncht it's tough. Gotta make it feel like you aren't just blindly guessing somehow, and yet not make it really good. I wonder why they even carried it over to 6 sometimes.
42:33 I really do not understand why Ed’s DP is still so slow in this game. In the last game it was because it was the only one button DP in the game, which was a strong advantage. In this game, they made it a traditional DP input, which removes the reason for it to be slow in the first place, modern characters are running around with fast DPs, and Chun-Li has a fast DP on an easy and quick down-down motion. If they wanted having a slow reversal to be part of his character identity they should have kept it one button for classic or at least went for the down-down Chun-Li approach. That wouldn’t be at all unbalanced, like it’s true having incredible defense is one of Chun’s biggest selling points, but her DP is fast lol. It’s weird that his supers are all extremely slow too. That being said he’s doing pretty well at high level it seems even with the weirdly slow DP, so maybe he doesn’t need it. Still, I don’t think he would be over-tuned if they shaved a few frames off his DP, made his level 1 faster, or made his DP one button or a down-down input.
I think Geif is good because hes just the most "He could" character. He can just absolutely flip the table on anyone at any time. I do think he has bad match ups with a good amount of the cast, but his ability to just kill the opponent at any point in the game makes him a threat. Even if the match up feels bad, he could, and a good amount of the time, he does.
People need to remember demon doesn’t have normal lv3 invulnerability frames. Any invincible reversal will beat it. Idk if wake up DR beats it as well, haven't tried tbh, but if it does its probably the safest way to deal with it.
I'm not going to list half the cast as weak matchups for gief, but Ed definitely feels like one of them. Long pokes, one of which is low, so it beats armored 5HP, and he can cancel out of his stance to not commit to the thing that armor does beat; plus you can't DI those moves on reaction. It's just very difficult to get in on Ed.
Just to give your hands something to do. It doesn't really do anything, as far as I know, but to some people, it's a good method to let out frustration or exasperation in the moment.
dude the topanga picture doesnt do ryukichi any justice LMAO he looks like he has NO NECK. idk if thats an old pic or just a bad angle but damn comparing that to his face in the player cam is night and day
I've noticed Kakeru doesn't really use Psycho Crusher after planting the mine for plus frames on block. I imagine there's a reason for it, i just don't know what it is. Was it just a week 1 Bison gimmick?
I don't really understand zangief right now because in these games it seems like he just drive rush -> 50-50 and both sides of the 50-50 deal 40% of your health. Not getting hit on block literally ever or end up in a 50-50 seems kind of ridiculous
I mean, Ken catches you with almost any of his buttons in neutral and puts you into the corner where you flip coins at a disadvantage until you claw your way out. That's just how some of these characters work. And he can't just drive rush into 50/50, he has to set it up through a sweep or a level 1 or something. His drive rush is also pretty slow if he isn't already at point blank, and if he's point blank you can OS a reversal. I'm not saying it's great game design or anything but I don't think it's 'unfair' by the standards of SF6.
@@SonicBoyster I don't know about unfair, but he can in fact just drive rush knee and that's a 50-50 for a huge chunk of life. If he goes for ex-SPD you take literally 34% of your health in damage, or 25% if it's Light SPD. If you jump you are eating a drive rush combo which, as shown by Kobayan, does a ton of damage as well. Basically if he's ever +2 you can't jab because SPD is 5 frames so you have to 50-50 jump or block. And how many times did he drive rush knee? A lot, headbutt is +4 also, means you cannot challenge or you'll eat CH SPD, another 50-50, which was a common pattern. I'm not good enough to judge broken or not broken, but I can say that if momochi is doing that miserably against a zangief on Ed who has very good neutral, he might be a very strong character that can create advantages situations very easily
You can be a strong character and still have a bad matchup into almost the whole cast and be a bad character and have a winning matchup into the whole cast. Gigas in Tekken 7, by winrate, was one of the best characters, in reality, he was literally the weakest character. Objectively he was going 3/7 most of the times and had some hard 1/9 matchups. Gief is strong, he has one of the biggest damage, he has a lot of health, he has a command grab, he does obscene Drive damage, but also he gets outranged a lot, he suffers on defense, half of his moves are still punishable on every range and should be used in VERY specific situations and his 50/50 is favored to the enemy since you'd usually go for the light SPD, but even with the OD SPD you get a bit less damage with 0 okizeme if someone just reads you and does a combo where they do get okizeme. As strong as he is, the state of the game, the entire gameplan is forcing him to be weaker, but I'd never leave him, he can be top 1 or bottom 1, I'll play him and Luke as much as possible. They are beyond fun to use!
