  • Here's the guide to playing the Bowman class mod for Darkest Dungeon! He's a potent ranged damage dealer who can shine in a blight or bleed party, or rock an abundance of Armor Piercing damage. He boasts plenty of debuffs and AOE options, and rarely misses the mark.

Hello, creator of the Bowman here! You are right in that kills from his DoTs apply the on kill effect from moonoil bowstring. As a consideration, don't forget that you can unequip Change Arsenal after setting a mode, and the mode will remain through the dungeon - it defaults to Armor Piercing if you don't Change Arsenal at all.
Glad you enjoy him and I'm overjoyed to see such a feature-length guide about him! Thank you! If you have any opinions on him balance-wise, do let me know!

I didn't even consider how easy it would be to simply switch out Change Arsenal after the first fight in a dungeon. I'm kicking myself now!
Honestly, It's a great class, and a ton of fun. Plus, just having Hawkeye purple is huge for me. Thanks for creating this class!

Thanks for the tip. I don't like it when classes have their change mode move be its own skill that takes up a slot, looking at you Falconer, so being able to set your preferred mode in the first fight and then unequip that skill is great.

Bowman is incredibly good setup, with his dual on command aoe dots and ability to ALWAYS go first after camp. Inspired a lot of my Graverobber "rebuild", who also has a free action transformation like Adapt, but mixed in is self healing and self blighting. I was going for Piercing Arrow level setup with how I did Poison Darts. Even aoe mark. It was so much fun and so informative to playtest Bowman!

Damn, good to hear! I love the grave robber so much...but I should definitely set that love aside to try out your rebuild at some point then.

I find backline dps and healers are pretty rare for mods, at least compared to frontline tanks and midline dps. Lots of competition for positions 2 and 3, but I struggle to fill out position 4. Nice to have this mod.

Im just a bit baffled that the big man with the bow has little mark synergy. Actually theres not all that much synergy in his kit… guess that kinda makes him a bit like a backline leper?

He's so versatile and can adapt mid-combat, if needed...I'm not sure there was much need for more tech. His arsenal is considerable, regardless. I think I tend to put him with specific DoT teams most often. Leper isn't a bad comparison at all, in this case. Good eye!

Playtester here. Moonoil Bowstring originally was +35% dmg vs marked -100% debuff chance or something like that. I insisted on it being made a little more unique, because you could just give him mod trinkets that increase dmg vs marked if you really want that playstyle.

@reclaim that makes sense, a ton of class mods have that kind of trinket equip tech unlocks going on. I'm doing it with my Ex-SOLDIER mod right now, it's a lot of fun to design that way. And there are trinkets in the game with that effect that are not class-specific

It's a greatbow from the Dark Souls series. They're that big because in those games they were made to kill dragons.

It is huge, and he'll carry that enormous bow all over the dungeons. That is a cool reference, though.

Been using this mod since he came out. While it is fun he’s super unbalanced. His kit works almost too well with itself and he’s basic damage ability is way too versatile I mean he’s fun but damn he needs balancing. Also his farmstead trinket is nutty strong too especially with piercing arrow

He is a very strong class, yeah. Maybe he'll get tweaked in the future, who knows? I just have fun while he's on my roster.
