I used to ride this line in and out of NYC all the time when I was younger. Now watching this I'm remembering how painfully slow these train rides were lol. Like it's crawling. Come driver hit that throttle full speed ahead !!
According to the schedule, yes. Train left Huntington just after 1:00 PM. Still...seems like a lot of people are headed to the city even on a weekday afternoon; seems like they should be there already.
This is one of those classic abovground lines that - fortunately) are still around. (Others are METRA's Racetrack in Chicago MARC's Penn (which overlays the NEC between Washington, DC and Baltimore) SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale Line, etcetera,
Double tracked in the 1980s because the original plan was installing 750v dc Third Rail to Port Jefferson instead of having to use dual modes for Penn Station Port Jefferson service
Good video, but strange trip. They still have those old 2-bulb position light signals? If you watch any LIRR RFW video, you're bound to see a whole host of different signals. At what point does MTA spend money to standardize and modernize their signal system? On top of that, the speed limit here appears to be 45mph. Awfully slow. People can drive faster than that today.
"Please take the stairs up and over [to track 3]" At Jamaica station, all the platforms are connected by an overhead walkway with stairwells down to each platform.
Hi Leroy from NYC long island by. it means horn that car must wait till. Train bypass by roads gates must warn drivers. And people must wait until train bypass. When person should not crossing the tracks. .
@57:43 there is a bell ringing, my guess is that maybe the cab signaling system for speed restrictions and track conditions or throttle settings. If there is a LIRR operator watching this video maybe they can chime in.
It's amazing how inefficient operations at Jamaica still are. As a former Long Islander, it always bugged me how far in advance of the station the trains had to slow down, and to have to stop, not once but twice, is unconscionable. They knew the train was coming; it should have been able to cruise right into the station at 25 mph!
ik its annoying. as someone who rides into the city often i know one thing though. jamaica is where the LIRR schedule is based off of, meaning if a train is on time at jamaica its on time for the rest of the system, hence the hella annoying “this train is on time and 15 minutes late” kinda situations. i dont know if it has anything to do with your concerns about it but it might be.
They make an annoucement stating there's no track space lol. They have to wait for the train in front of them to clear. Hence them having a stop signal and then receiving an upgrade before moving.
At 26:15 there appear to be small platforms on either side of the bridge structure with steps leading down to the street. Can’t be for public use can it?
No offence to my deer americans across the pond but damn!!! YOUR TRAINS SUCK AND ARE SLOW!!! In the UK a London to Brighton train 55miles distance with a quite a few stops would of done that in 1 hour flat!!! also UK trains are powered by 3rd rail or diesel in south of England only and it would be even quicker if it was running on 25KV overhead powerlines!!! Your clearly behind us LOL!!!
The funding difference is massive though you have to understand New York is a state and the UK is a country, most of the trains have the capability of doing faster as well it’s mainly a issue with old track
I enjoyed the video, I really appreciate that everyone is making M3 cab ride videos while they’re still in service.
I was born in 1994 and real soon it’s going to be 30 years that the M3 LIRR train is still being used.
I used to ride this line in and out of NYC all the time when I was younger. Now watching this I'm remembering how painfully slow these train rides were lol. Like it's crawling. Come driver hit that throttle full speed ahead !!
Great video. After watching high speed rail videos this train seems painfully slow.
hey atleast its faster than a subway
Sad Lion amen
It’s a double deck train what you expect
@Savage its not double decker look up LIRR M3
@@Manu-gq5ke Just because it's a double decker doesn't mean it has to be slow...
JUST BEAUTIFUL !!! PLEASE UPLOAD OTHERS !!!
Merillon Ave is so different! Wow, had to watch that twice!
Very relaxing clear weather afternoon(guessing) ride! Thank you!
According to the schedule, yes. Train left Huntington just after 1:00 PM. Still...seems like a lot of people are headed to the city even on a weekday afternoon; seems like they should be there already.
Terrific video! Thanks, Fan Railer!
Pretty cool ride! Thx 4 sharing
1:08:36 The announcements are really charming. Does this happen on every train journey?
Safety First 🥇🏆

Nice! It was cool seeing the FRA Inspection Train while approaching Jamaica.
Beautiful video
Please do more video like that...are very very interesting!! Ciao from Milano Italia.
Brought me back home
Conductors would have said, "Stand clear of the closing doors", especially in NYC
I don't blame them
The Third Rail Should be Handled Professional Electrical Workers Only
19:32 - Hixville
51:48 - Jamica
wetbooty :V

Love these videos. What does the bell ringing mean?
What was the crew announcement in Hicksville about?
Last grade crossings are at New Hyde Park.
The Main Line crossings will all be gone while the third track project is in progress
Nice A Diesel Electric Engines 😜😀
PenStaion Last Stop Good Night Ladies And Gentlemen
54:25 what was the conductor saying? "all tickets please"? "for those passengers what please activate the tickets"?

It's in the NORAC rule, starting at 281
CTRail1996 what’s that
It might be only 45 mph but it takes much longer for a train to stop than a car.
Bell when the doors close sounds like it came off an M1, slightly lower pitch than the usual M3 bells, haven't heard that in years
What a ridiculously slow journey!
55:20 Conductor: Kew Gardens first 6 cars only
57:35 Kew Garden station
59:56 Conductor: Forest Hills first 6 cars only
1:00:55 Forest Hills station
The LIRR is a fascinating operation. So many trains and so much trackage, now if they could only get thru service via Amtrak, THAT would be something!
indeed it would
52:28 Jamaica station. The conduction was saying "The Atlantic Terminal train will be located on track no. 3 . Please take stairs up and noddel"??
"Please take the stairs up and over [to track 3]" At Jamaica station, all the platforms are connected by an overhead walkway with stairwells down to each platform.
A Whole Underground Terminal I wish septa had a one
Particularly at 30th street station, pain in the ass to have to walk in rain and snow to catch the EL or the trolley!...😖
30th Street Station! My Fav
But Ur Right, it's pain in ass during rain storms
They do have one but it needs to be reopened and will be safer for access
What about Suburban and Jefferson Stations?
Great video! One question tho what's up with all the ringing of the bell, what they they mean?

it has different uses, different crews use it for different things. Mostly, it's the clearing signal for the engineer to start moving.

Looks like it'll take like 9 hours to get to work.
Thanks!!
Do they always apply ATC? I always hear that Alerter Bell go off in RFW videos.
Nice video!

No, those are maintenance access ways.
LIRR Main Line connects to Amtrak's Northeast Corridor at Harold Interlocking into Penn Station! (1:07:18)
Is this powered by third rail? It looks like it. But, if so, shouldn’t there be warning signs at street crossings?
Whose to say there aren't?
almost thought this was SEPTA's subway elevated m3s coming from i could only see "huntington"
Why does the train wait so long in Hicksville ?
R there any videos of this to n from Atlantic ave? Would love to watch that can u do one ?
All Trains Should be Equipped With Diesel Electric Engines In case Of A Power Outage 😯
What's the ringing? Signal alarm?
alerting passengers of closing doors
Head Lights Please
:o forest hills I live there
The Reason We This Rule Because The Third Rail is Dangerous
You Need Heavy Duty Cables For The Third Rail Power 😞😞
Early in the video I heard a real Dublin, Ireland dialect response to the ticket checker: "howya" listen for it..
Danger Stay Clear Of The Third Rail
Smoking Should be Allowed On Open Platform s
