    pro tip:
    run it through a coffee filter in a funnel when you put it back into the container, it'll filter out most debris that will turn it black.

      xbox squeaker yep. I typically run mine through a paint filter, but coffee filter would remove even more. 👍

    It worked awesome on some old tools I had that were my grandfathers. One item was ?? some kind of gears that were really awesome. But, afterwords I rinsed it off and tried to dry it off the best I could. I sat my items on the dish drain and they were covered with rust just a couple hours later. Am I supposed to spray everything with something afterwards to stop rust from forming? I feel like I waisted my time because it came right back.

      If your items are old gears or cast iron, it will rust almost immediately after rinsing. You just need to coat them with a little WD-40 (original) or some light oil. Or, if they're more of a show-piece, you can paint with an aerosol clear-coat.

      Shop Tool Reviews Great! Thanks for answering! I found there is a broken piece but not sure what it is. I am trying to figure out how the peeler is attached. Would love to be able to use it. I think it’s rather awesome.

    Eh...white distilled vinegar $2.40/gal works amazing. Non toxic. Can pour it down the drain.

    White vinegar works better and it's a lot safer . It also cost a lot less .

      This stuff is very mild on the skin and no fumes, and it does better than vinegar.

      Vinegar does not work better. I tested both myself, because I thought vinegar would be the cheaper route to go and it was and did not work well.

      Vinegar doesn't do squat to rust.

      Restoring a trailer, got about three dozen bolts etc and small metal pieces. some are covered in rust, others just in one area. Trailer is probably over 20 years old. Started soaking in cheap cooking vinegar and the results are stunningly good. After overnight soak, most of the rust comes off easily with a wire brush and minimal effort. Some bolts look brand new. Give it a try before using the expensive stuff. Bathe in water and baking soda to neutralize acid also.

      active ingredient in most of the "rust removers" is phosphoric acid at around 20% concentration. Citric acid also works well. You can just buy citric acid by the pound, add it to water in a 5 gal bucket and use it for a loooooong time. Concentration and temperature will determine how fast it works.

    • @ghffrsfygdhfjkjiysdz
      @ghffrsfygdhfjkjiysdz 6 лет назад

      technically speaking they do not rust. They will however oxidise. Rust is specifically iron oxide, so copper will oxidise forming copper oxide, but that is nor truly "rust".

      Actually, the stuff that forms on copper is a copper carbonate-copper hydroxide.
      I think zinc forms an oxide.
      Nickel and Chromium and Aluminium form an ultra thin oxide layer.
