  • Life on Earth has weathered boiling-hot oceans and volcanic-ash-darkened skies-but that’s nothing like the climate change we’re experiencing now. In this episode of Crash Course Biology, we’ll talk about the greenhouse effect, learn why our climate is like a tangled pair of headphones, and discover that we’ve understood the science behind climate change for much longer than you might think.
    Chapters:
    Introduction to Climate Change 00:00
    The Greenhouse Effect 2:24
    Measuring the Greenhouse Effect 4:46
    Carbon Sinks 8:26
    Environmental Justice 10:07
    Review & Credits 12:09

Kudos for doing this episode. Just like you can't present a nature documentary anymore without referencing how climate change is affecting life, you can't discuss biology without discussing this topic. It's tragic that so many people still refuse to accept that this is a big problem, which means refusing to take the necessary steps to force a change in course.

The earth will survive climate change
Life will most likely also survive climate change
Whether WE survive climate change, is mostly up to us, and we're running out of time.

    It happened alarmingly fast.

Excellent video on the topic and a great host!
People who make excuses like "oh, the earth has been this warm before" don't stop and realize that humans or the crops we need to survive were not alive and thriving in those eras of hot earth climate.

It's definitely hitting some folks way harder, like right now as I write this comment. I've been seeing "record highs" in a lot of headlines all over the place. Where I live it's really, really noticeable and really, really bad. The US southeast is "supposed" to be hot and humid, sure, but not 111F every day for a week!! We have trees dying from too much heat and not ENOUGH moisture, which is something I really never thought I'd see in this area. And I'm not sure how anybody's alive in Phoenix AZ right now >.>
And you are VERY right. We have to get every human on Earth to work together if we wanna solve this as quickly as humanly possible... sad to say we can't even get people to stop shooting at each other much less agree on climate policies.

That was surprisingly not terrible. I've never watched this channel before, because I am an engineer and these things are generally too, well, general.
The presenter is great, the graphics are good, the data - little as it was - is sound, but I was most surprised by the obvious links between the ability of our planet to sustain life as we know it is only due to the Earth's natural greenhouse effect. That's pretty refreshing, and not often brought up In these micro courses. Well done!

The issue that I have seen has been that most climate activists go after their fellow man rather than the governments and companies that are doing the most damage. You can't expect creatures of habit (humans) to change their diets overnight or at all. You can however hold large corporations accountable and force them into changing their practices and invest in carbon recapture.

It is true that consequences of famine, flooding, droughts, bad crops and even polution disproportionately affect poor people regardless their race, is because this fact that is so cruel that the proposed solutions for 'climate change' also affect the most poor people, making food, energy, housing, transportation and almost everything else
expensier, therefore making poor people less likely to have access to it.
In fact the proposed solutions make the rich richer eg Bill Gates, the powerful more powerful, and the poor poorer. How is that a good solution?

Medicine is a science way older and more advanced that climate science. Hi many times people goes to doctors and specialists, get tested with many technologies and still medical scientists can say what’s the problem or how to fix it?
The reality is that we know very little about many areas of science. Particularly climate science has proven to have been wrong many times in the past.
The worst part is that real scientist are silenced if they have theories distinct to the mainstream. How is this science?
