  • @HeyChickens
    @HeyChickens Год назад +35

    According to studies, mosquitoes look for pulses of co2, not steady streams of it. There are a lot of sources of randomly higher concentrations of co2 in our natural environment, like rotting vegetation. So mosquitoes are looking for patterns of CO2 that resemble breathing patterns. Also, CO2 is more of a long-range honing factor, not short range. If mosquitoes were only honing in on CO2, they would all fly straight towards our mouths. But they don't. Once they get in close range of their target, they start looking for other odors that indicate a potential meal. If you don't believe me, go sit really still outside when there are a bunch of mosquitoes, and count how many fly directly into your mouth versus how many land on your skin. That's about how many mosquitoes this trap will get. And even some of those will find their way back out, so this idea is extremely limited in its practical value.

      What you're saying makes sense. Now what do you suggest instead?

    • @HeyChickens
      @HeyChickens Год назад +3

      @@alno1 I have noticed that certain odors attract lots of mosquitoes to a general area over time, but not all of the mosquitoes end up quickly honing in on the precise source of the odor. A lot of mosquitoes will spend several minutes dancing around, landing for a second, then taking off again, etc. So I think in order for any mosquito-killing apparatus to be extremely effective, it needs to be able to kill a whole swath of them at once. And it needs to be aggressive, not waiting for the mosquitoes to land or crawl into just the right spot. Imagine if we took a bunch of dirty laundry with all of our human smells on it, and stuck it right in front of a huge electrified wire mesh that was designed to instantly kill mosquitoes. Then on the opposite side of the electric zapper grid there would be a powerful fan that would kick on every 5-10 minutes for about 10 seconds each time. So while the fan is off the mosquitoes will all start congregating around the dirty laudry, trying to hone in on the source of the smell. Then after a good number of them have gathered around it, the fan will kick on and blow them all into the zapper grid. An even better idea would be to put two zapper grids onto an axis that makes them orbit around the dirty laundry (or whatever the best attractant turns out to be). The grids would be activated every few minutes and rotated at high speed around the center, killing all the flying mosquitoes that are hovering near the dirty laundry.

      I had an incident, when I came back from gym my body temp. was more ... I gone for a walk on terrace of our apartment and what you see, all the mosquito started attacking more frequently, they were like drooling to bite... After some time all gone...
      So I think when we exercise our body generates more co2 and raise temp. That was attracted by mosquito that evening..so they started attacking furiously.. after some time our body relaxed so they also went chill... No more biting after 20-30mins..

    I read somewhere that u should use vinegar and baking soda. That releases CO2 and attracts mosquitoes. Gonna try that tonight... This video has a good recipe for sugar test lol

    Mosquitoes are attracted by warmth, CO2, and humidity. I.e. animals like us.
    Or maybe those commercial propane-powered systems that produce warmth, CO2, and humidity.

    Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar for a more effective skeeter solution on the patio, in the yard, at the grill, etc. The ACV odor is so strong, it helps to mask the human smell.

      Use a bit more sugar. The water should become a bit thick and sticky. Also, instead of honey use yeast. I've tried it. It works great. You can thank me later :-)

    Those were PART of the procedure I had used in the past. It is always annoying when someone adds fluff, pour a glass of water, then pour it in another jar, then another. Show us the cup of sugar for several seconds, then slowly dole out 3 spoonfuls, then a half spoon. Spoon of honey, then Dribble it slowly into the water and stir. Fluff.

    • @rmnds
      @rmnds Год назад

      That doesn't even matter. Mosquitoes are not attracted by sugar, which is why there is just an animation at the end.

    • @tomcondon6169
      @tomcondon6169 Год назад +1

      @@rmnds Yes, I had one of these, in the past, from a RUclips video. You add yeast AND sugar. The growi g yeast produces carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitos. They follow the trail of our breath right to us.
