  • I know low temp also affects lithium batteries as well, but a lot of the options available to purchase come with a self heater that will maintain suitable heat load on the cells.

OR check amazon, sometimes they have better pricing

160w RICH Solar panel (the one I have) only one of these panels will work inside voltage range of the DC to DC charger (it seems this panel often times is not accurately listed on amazon, and the 160w is not always available. sometimes this link goes to 100w panels, so just double check they are the correct panels before purchasing)

You didn’t mention your specific location, however, I would challenge you that your test is definitely not comprehensive. I monitor engine and under hood temps routinely and upon engine shut down I recorded up to 265° in the engine compartment of an old diesel truck I keep on the road. So the heat flood when it’s 100° outside after an engine shut down is the extreme test that needs to be performed. You should be performing this test in late July and August in Texas.

I did mention my location, however I disagree with your view points.
Sounds like a great video you should make!

Operating temp =\= best lifespan. Anything above ~108 will definitely negatively affect it. Operating temp just means it can operate and won’t explode or completely kill the cells right away. Plus there’s the added temp from being under a load.

so it is safe to say then that the battery is safer in the engine bay than inside the cab... im sure the cab reaches 108 more frequently in the texas heat here being parked and in the sun than it would driving it around. almost instantly, after the vehicle gets up over 10 mph, engine bay temps drop to ambient or even below ambient with wind chill.... im being facetious here, but in all actuality it probably would reach 108 more frequently and for longer periods of time being inside the cab than in the engine bay. the Renogy DC to DC charger and the comms port in the batter can monitor real time temps of the battery and cells, which i do/did monitor quite intensely for several months after install

@@isaacspoon i guess it just depends on the insulation and airflow of the inside setup. Perhaps with your setup and being in Texas there would be degradation either way and without insulation from the heat it may be better under the hood where there is better airflow from the outside ambient temperature while the car isn’t running. With my battery under my platform it stays much much colder than the rest of the vehicle.

So it seems engine bay is ok? I’m installing 100amp hour lithium in engine bay of my ram 2500

haven't had any issues whatsoever with it being in there for over a year now.
