- The rain gauge in my Accurite weather station quit working I decided it was most likely some debris in the rain gauge mechanism and that it may need cleaning or service of some sort . I looked on the internet for information on how to do this and after a lot of looking and reading found out how to take it apart to clean it .Inside I found a LOT of spiders ,spider webs, leaves and some seeds in the weather station rain gauge parts. When I took the weather station down it had been raining and I managed to get water in it .
So this video is also on how to dry the weather station out and get it working again . Just in case you don't know you can remove permanent marker using alcohol put some on a rag and wipe the permanent marker right off . BOB

Nice video describing disassembly. Thanks for the heads up on water trappings. Permatex makes a Tune-up Dielectric Grease Permatex 22058 (3 oz), Permatex 85184 (0.5 oz). I don't sell the product or am I connected in any way. Just good stuff. Any auto part store
I've had problems with spiders spinning webs that cause the rain detector to stop working. It's amazing how little it takes to stop the pivot action. It seems like fall is the worst time of year. In the very front of the bottom half, I place a couple moth balls secured with strips of duct tape. That seems to prevent the problem until the mothballs evaporate.
Nice tip about the silicon grease on the batteries. Also, you can get some grease at the auto part store that is used to put in the light bulb connectors to keep water out. That should also work. But the silicon grease doesn't make as much of a mess.
SiliconE….silicon makes terribly gritty grease.

I just replaced my batteries as they were low and when it's cold it stops functioning.
Anyway, after replacing the batteries it would not reconnect so after 7 years I've taken it inside to pull it apart and check it out.
(I have a new station should things turn for the worst!)
Might as well clean all the mould off the cover too, and it'll look like brand new again. Yeah, I've got a spare wind cup, but the old one is still okay. I will let you know how I go with it.

Mine is like yours, but the temp, wind speed, direction readout , doesn't display, even after replacing all the batteries in it ? Haven't taken it apart yet, oh yea, I don't hear that sound it makes outside when it was still

The home screen of the acurite 5 in 1 was frozen, is there a solution?
A few questions you may consider 'stupid' or obvious:
1.) Which model number screen do you have?
2.) Have you unplugged it, if using the AC Adapter, and removed the batteries?
3) On the unit itself, when you remove the battery door, do you see a reset button and have you pressed it?
4) Has the screen been dropped?
I may be able to help you with the above information and how and when this happened.
I had hornet in mine.
I brought mine in two weeks ago to install new Windcups. After it was inside for a few minutes, it came alive in my sink with a dozen teeny-tiny spiders!
