In Ren’s interview with Knox Hill, Ren states that Animal Farm was not an influence in the song but only as a concept for the video. This song, and all the others released since HI REN, have been held back from production. He is still sitting on a ton of unreleased content. This man is a machine!
Your breakdowns are outstanding Fil ..you help me understand so much ..i love love love this love Ren an love you too thanku much love an God bless always x
GENIUS reaction, my friend! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your •entire• reaction from the beginning all the way to the end! (Not to be a total dick about it, but it seems like some people were jumping to some conclusions around here..I've been your sub long enough to know you have never given a surface reaction to anything you have ever done on your channel and if I am just patient, you will inevitably explore every inch of real estate when it comes to the meaning of a song, so many times teaching me things I would have never thought nor realized on my own) You are one of my all time favorite reactors •because• of your ability to wring every subtle drop of context, background, and meaning from a powerful song and yet still leave me with other intriguing thoughts and levels of detail and depth that open my mind up •more• towards that song so much so that it literally refreshes it for me and pushes me to keep questioning and enjoying it all over again. Anyways, I really appreciated the nuanced perspective..I think you nailed a lot of the most subtle messages and Easter eggs Ren placed throughout this music video; This was literally the best reaction to this song on RUclips in my opinion.
That was such a good reaction to this song! Your explanation of Animal Farm was spot on! Its so brilliant and the beat, rap and flow are amazing! Ren is so talented ❤
My guy you need to jump into the Ren rabbit hole he has an insane amount of content and deserves to be on top. He doesn't miss I've yet to find anything he hasn't hit on.. everything is fire.. as a matter of fact he has a song called FIRE he did 7 years ago and it's timeless..
Love your reaction! The rules written on the wall are the same rules in animal farm. All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others. 4 legs good, 2 legs bad. The pigs were the ones that lead the “society” in the book. The outfit as well is from clockwork orange. He’s really inspired by Kubrick and Orwell. The dogs playing poker was based on the painting, if you look closely above them, that dog painting you referenced was on the wall. Also came from Animal Farm where eventually the animals starting drinking and gambling with the humans. I think the lamb part is also loosely inspired by silence of the lambs or “sacrificial lambs.” The pig is in a lot of Ren’s videos. He hasn’t said what it’s in reference to as he likes to see what other people’s interpretations are but a lot of people believe it’s in reference to greed and power in the world, his thoughts about the establishment and counter culture. This was also a one take video! Took them 9 hours to film because any mistake meant they had to start all over again! Loved the concept of this song and video.
Dogs playing poker was painted in 1894 by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. In 2015, Poker Game sold for $658,000, currently the highest price paid for a Coolidge.
After watching maybe eighty or a hundred reactions, I loved your breakdown more than any of the others. Artistically you seem to completely understand his mind. I really enjoyed this.
I am so glad that you never read Animal Farm. It allowed your unprompted eye, your deep humanity and your razor sharp mind to manifest an analysis that I find very fresh, deeply insightful, and just as relevant…just as correct. Ren himself has stated that he prefers us each to discover in it our own meaning. Perhaps then we might all contribute…add our own vector to a kind of emerging circumference…almost like…a fable sphere. ❤
I've been finding myself more disturbed by the sheer volume of people who don't know it. I mean it was required reading when I was in grade school, and again in high school to we'd have a more mature perspective on it. Admittedly that was 35-45 years ago, but just... damn. But then on a wide array of topics I'm absolutely dismayed at the things so-called adults were apparently never taught.
@jasonknight1085 Agreed. I attended one of the public schools of the 48th rated state in the 80s, and even I was required to read Animal Farm (& 1984). I'm overwhelmed by the number of reactors who have never even heard of Orwell or Animal Farm. Orwell was a foundational block for understanding political systems.
Animal Farm was banned as a scholl text in the States during more recent years of education - so obviously 'unrequired' reading for those unfortunates! Nothing like a bit of censorship in a land so proud to be'free'!😅
New to your channel and your Ren playlist, but definitely subbing. I love how much you reach and grasp for context and understanding. I worried you wouldn't get the Orwellian backdrop when you didn't recognize the Animal Farm commandments on the wall or notice the Pig overseeing the human bound to the rack, and I'm so glad you did. My favorite part of the video is when the (German) Shepherd leads the leashed lamb submissively down the stairs (presumably to slaughter) while Ren is rapping about eating your flesh-Yum yum yum yum. Such a clever detail just before "waging war on the capitol." P.S. In brushing up on my Animal Farm after this came out, I realized the dogs playing poker could be a double, as it's a card game at the end of A.F. where it's become evident that the rebellion's leaders are now worse than the humans. And my favorite quote, “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
You definitely need to check Money Game 1 & 2, and even though it would be a slightly longer video, doing them both back to back in one reaction is the way to go with those, they package really well together. Great take on this one, I think you pretty much nailed it!
Just to add an interpretation for the final shot. At the end of the book the pigs are discovered, negotiating to sell the farm back to the humans ('although it has become hard to distinguish the pigs from the people')!
:Pigs are significant in Animal Farm and also in other Ren videos, and now at the end the two animals standing right behind him are both pigs. one in fact the pig butcher who wheels him in in Hi Ren. Interesting.
On point, Fil! Great reaction/analysis. Really appreciated your incorporation of the imagery into your take on this song. And, yes, Ren is so very, very clever. There were hints at Clockwork Orange as well when he was leading the lamb to slaughter, especially in the the eerie music that accompanied that section. I hated that movie, so those sounds are forever etched in my brain, but I can still appreciate it's meaning and influence. Loved your reaction! ❤ 🥒 |-/
Are you aware, Phil, that Hi Ren, the Tales, this one (and many uou havent seen yet) are single shot/ one taje vids and Hi Ren, Chalk Outlines, the Tales (and others), recorded LIVE as well? Just wondered as you havent highlighted it. Brilliant reacts tho, sir! UK Renegade, Pippa
People eat animals, animals eat animals, animals eat people. Equal opportunity of survival. Not a lot of evidence of people eating people, but I am sure it has or is happening somewhere. Every type of animal group or herd has an hierarchy. Humans will fight for it and over it the same way. When animals take over it could be very ugly, thus the book by Orwell's Animal Farm. Didn't seem to dissuade us humans to change our behavior though did it?
I've watched a good number of reactions to this, and yours brought aspects that others did not have. Many thanks. Other influences on this performance are said to be A Clockwork Orange and Willy Wonka...
I don't mean to be a dick but you straight up read the 7 rules from Animal Farm on the white board and didn't catch the Orwell' reference...you have obviously never really read the book.
