In 2017, I had life saving surgery. I was house bound for weeks. My sister got me set up with an Amazon Prime account so I could binge some shows. I sat down and watched the first episode of Grand Tour as I loved Top Gear. When this song started, tears came to my eyes and I knew while I had a long road ahead, I was going to be ok. Peace to all, have an awesome day.
Ive just suffered 4 years of crippling Long Codid that has had me bed ridden and last week we seem to have found an almost miracle cure for me. I no longer process salt - we dont know why yet - my sodium level is normal but its not available but 5g of sodium citrate a day and I am NORMAL. Im off to the city centre for the first time in years in about half an hour. I FEEL GREAT. Hang in there mate - you will get through it...!!!
Vivez, profitez. Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero.
I was in a terrible way and heartbroken and my sister set me up with Amazon to binge watch this and drag me out of it. This song is bittersweet for me. Today I watched the last episode in a much better place and hoped to hear it. Sisters are very special it seems Hope you’re well now xx
This song and the opening scene of The Grand Tour might just be the most beautiful piece of television I've ever seen. And, as a former full-time TV critic, I've seen one helluva lot.
Ive been without a car for 4 years, my own car that is, and tomorrow that is going to change, and thinking about that, that feeling of sublimity alone, fuels me in the same way this song does, which is why when im driving it home this is the song im going to be playing, and to just imagine it, i cant help but let out tears of joy. Thank you grand tour, for giving me that notion to feel it, as i feel every bit of passion for cars and motorsports.
2 things i need before my passing: -this song -speed and power thank you to top gear and the grand tour for genuine funny banter, car commentary, and unhinged comedy.
You cant listen to this without getting chills down your back .. lovely track .. especially on Vinyl .. i bought this when it was first released , loved how GT used it to open their show👏
Saw them in Christchurch when they came along with Dire Straits as well. Liam was standing in the crowd after Hothouse Flowers had done their gig and Dire Straits was playing. My husband and myself had a good conversation with Liam - my husband and Liam shared a love of obscure Irish music bands.
I'm old school. Not comfortable with most songs post the 90s, but these guys have given this song a different shade. And, a good one too. Love from India.
How's this for a week many years ago. Paul McCartney and Wings that hubby wanted to see. Few days later, Neville Brothers that hubby wanted to see. Finally, Hot house Flowers that I wanted to see, (in Wollongong), and to this day, still one of the best and most exciting shows my hubby agrees it was. GREAT ADAPTION, GREAT BAND. Thank you for one of the best musical nights ever!!!
The definitive version of this song. Haven’t seen Grand Tour but I can imagine Clarkson charging across a desert with this blaring. Wouldn’t mind doing that myself.
For crying out even louder I state that this version redefines the song thereby making it the definitive version of the song. Rarely does a cover improve on the original but it happens here. Sorry for your indignation.
I first saw HHF live in late 1991 in Canberra, Australia where they supported Dire Straits. It was miserable cold wet weather. Pouring down, soaking wet and near frozen - we loved it. Seeing, hearing, feeling this song in that weather was super. I loved the Home album and it rightfully was #1 in Oz! Awesome and they were the support act! Having just returned from o/s with army a week earlier, it was great to have HHF at home!
I found a copy of Hothouse Flowers' 'Home' at a Salvo op shop in perfect condition..... $3... a month ago. It's a brilliant albumn that still holds its own.
I would say I can't believe how many people relate this to TGT, but I expected no less. Whatever shows up In November will be absorbed my me none the less. These 3:have a chemistry that can't be duplicated.
Hot house flowers, what a name, loved these guys back in the day, I did gcse Art because they let us wear r earphones, I blasted my eardrums to death to these guys! What a time! Young dumb and it all in front of me!
The Hothouse Flowers recorded this cover around 30 years ago, but with the passing of Johnny Nash yesterday, the original artist from the early 60s, I can think of no better tribute to Mr. Nash than the passion and joy the Flowers give this song.
It's the nursing along a hard time, finding will to go forward. But the ascension of this track as we are pulled forward is perfection. The piano moving from a minor to a major as the band swells!

Back in the early 2000s the flowers were playing in Edinburgh. A friend of mine was friends with a couple of them from back in Ireland, she met them after the gig, quite late. Phoned me who worked in a bar not far away and asked if it was alright to bring the boys in as we were just closing, they arrived just as the last punters left & we sat down had a few beers with them behind closed doors. One of the barmaids was from Cork and recognised Liam straight away, "I just about creamed my knickers", I'll nvr forget that comment as long as I live
The best version for me is, and always will be, the original by Johnny Nash (a classic tune), there's no beating it IMO - but fair play to the Flowers for trying something different with the song - unlike Jimmy Cliff, who simply cloned the Johnny Nash version... I do like the haunting piano intro and bombastic saxophone solo in this cover - brilliant!
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in my way Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-shiny day It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-shiny day I think I can make it now, the pain is gone All of the bad feelings have disappeared Here is the rainbow I've been prayin' for It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-shiny day Look all around, there's nothin' but blue skies Look straight ahead, nothin' but blue skies I can see clearly now, the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in my way Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-shiny day
