I came here to say similar. I believe this had stars to rate it back then when it posted. It has been in my playlist for the whole 15 years. Just stopping by with my you tube liked songs on random. All 1228 of them
Lack of marketing budget! I have been following Mr Ford for the last 12 years (I'm one of the obsessive collectivists who owns everything he's ever produced) and I love him. But you take one of his albums to a record label and they'll be so bewildered by the diversity of styles (waily stuff, heart breaking ballad, gravelly bluesy one, angry political rant) and they have no idea which audience to sell to. He gets by on word of mouth and loyalty. We're the lucky ones who managed to find him :)
changed my life.. as an artist all I could dream of is pushing music forward like this. This should should be viral..the fact it is not means it is beyond it's time... even at 2011
Been following David Ford for around 10 years and in that time been to see him live over a dozen times... If you've not been to one of his shows, seriously, get yourself to one! He's superb. There's simply not a songwriter quite like him.
***** I'm a big fan of Aaron Lewis. I agree he's a great song writer; personally, I think his songs are often a bit "samey" and simple, but there's no doubting his talent. I've always been a big Staind fan too, arguably his best work is in their archives too.
swear ive watched this david ford video a hundred times (this 101 at least) and never gets old just dig this tune he reminds me a lot of how james used to be back in the 90s
+Varden Longraf Can't say I've listened to it that many times, but must be at least 50 times back in the day. It's wonderful how he layers up the different instruments...
Very cool song, David Ford is seriously accomplished. Frankly I don't understand how one could not see sheer beauty in this piece nor the profundity considering the lyrics as well as Ford's use of multiple instruments which he played to create this. I definitely shared this with numerous friends of mine. Cheers
One Of THE greatest artists i have ever had the pleasure to listen to. With the over-commercialization of everything that people think they like, we will sadly probably never see david on top of the charts, but, thats okay, real people still love real things. David keep doing what you do!.
This is pretty bad ass. Like when your high and get stuck watching the kitchen sink drip into a pot for an hour orchestrating a symphony in your head. And think to yourself, I should check out how the music in the sink'll sound more often. You kids should check out Lichens; he builds an orchestra with sampled vocals as well.
My Buddy Told me to check Dave out. I have to say, I'm impressed. I don't know what dude is talking about! Anyways, if anyone knows anything about music, they can appreciate You Dave.
he loops all the time . well he did until he added a band recently. but the loop thing was a major deal with all his performances. been watchin david since his easyworld days ! he really is that damn good
He couldn't have done this live by himself anyway . Or at least there's someone else took control on his vocal track as in the end of the song you could hear that there are back vocal tracks coming from nowhere while he singing the lead part. But this definitely genius :)
I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't looped until post production. He had an ear piece that could have helped to keep him in rhythm with all the instruments and vocals. It was just recorded live.
Isso é maravilhoso. uma das melhores produções que vi recentemente. E, fico pasmo, pq só agora tomei conhecimento dessa beleza pois comecei a fazer um curso de produção musical. Realmente espetacular. Aula completa. blza!!!!!!
I also saw him when he opened for Ingrid Michaelson out here in Sacramento. His performance was waaaay better than hers and got a lot more crowd feedback. Awesome performance and great to see him in the US
this guy is great, does any musician/guitar player out there know exactly what kind of equipment he uses to do this and loop it all himself so perfectly. Looks like he's using some type of pedal but I've always had trouble looping pedals? If anyone knows get at me...
@Joeri12 Joeri, I don't punch people for having an opinion; I do, however, punch people for insulting my friends. It's not mature. It's silly. Fuck, if you've ever seen me fight, you'll see it's not even a good idea. But we love our friends and defend them. Thanks for checking out the channel. Smit BlankTV
I feel like David Ford is a secret fire hydrone that only i hqve marked as my territory. Lol. But, i know many others know his other worldly/pure musical genius as well. He and Kurt Cobain are the two main players on my personal proverbial, musical Mount Rushmore. I have three C.D.s of David, have to see if he has new ones. He was serenaded me through some of my darkest saddest moments. Therefore he feels like loving family to me. Translation, "Long Live David Ford, and his bohemian music.
What I like to point out here is that he would need someone else to control the tracks he recorded. You could hear that the back vocal is fade out and fade in again, while he has no control on any consoles. Well, unless he did a post-production which I'm sure this might be the case. I suspected that he recorded it on multitrack as it wouldn't be possible to fade a certain track if it was done on the same track all over the song. And to add a new track should have delay him for few seconds.
Does anyone know exactly what someone could use, program wise or what have you, that'd allow you to record/loop collected bits of music and sounds? I just want to know how he did that, and what he used to loop and stack the different sounds and record them on. I'd really appreciate if someone knew and could tell me.

I can't believe this isn't a 20M view video. I've personally watched it a couple hundred times.

2021 and I still love this. Never gets old.
I feel like this is one of those OG RUclips videos that I come back to, like, every 2 or 3 years. Can't believe it doesn't have a million+ views.
Since it was posted, this has always been one of my favorite videos on RUclips.
Almost 11 years later and still one of my favorite music videos.
And 50 people that don't like this? Go get bent!
Just remembered this and had to show my dad!
Was shown this in 2008❤
Here I am, after all this time, finding this masterpiece again.
A man who really knows what is music.

If you are a fan of Tom Waits.... Then you are a fan of David Ford... Because Tom still is hard to figure out... Even after 40 years
This song still hits like a truck

Saw David perform this live many many years ago and was in absolute awe of everything I was seeing and hearing. Truly a very talented person.

I've been sharing this video since the MySpace days...

The way he composes his music is freaking brilliant! Good job, David.
Went to another country to see him. Seeing him live is worth it. He is beyond brilliant.
David is both Talented and Amazing!!!! Awesome Video
Great Performance,Nice Voice,Creative .Can't say enough was really impressed.
It is awesome!!!! As everyone is saying, how is it possible that it is not a 20million views?

It’s been too long since I’ve seen this. I miss those easy times.
glad to see so many people loving david work. been a fan since the easyworld days :-) woo hoo, let the bad times roll :-)
David Ford has an amazing ability with music to be making that entire recording by himself as far as I'm concerned.
I want a loop peddle now !!!! Really good mate!
that's a real musician ! Great!
Saw this guy at Plymouth yesterday, and he played this song amazingly :D
An idea in the head and hands in a sampler... Awesome feat!
I'm just blown away. That is a great fucking song and video.

Between this guy and MysteryGuitarman, there is no hope for being successful in music anymore GREAT VIDEO
Amazing job - amazing performance.
The camaraman probably also presses the record button of the loop machine- technically absolutely possible.
Isso é maravilhoso. uma das melhores produções que vi recentemente. E, fico pasmo, pq só agora tomei conhecimento dessa beleza pois comecei a fazer um curso de produção musical. Realmente espetacular. Aula completa. blza!!!!!!

Freakin' brilliant
The video is shot live in one take, using the studio track...he's not actually playing all the kitchenware. :)

I just want to know how he did that, and what he used to loop and stack the different sounds and record them on. I'd really appreciate if someone knew and could tell me.
i fucking love david ford. enough said.
I wonder what device/software he is using for the looping. I have an RC-50, I wonder if it can do the same...

I never treated you so mean
Like that’s a reason to be proud
My love, I know it’s been so long but
I just thought I’d call around
And with that smile that’s says, “yeah well, ya see…
I knew you’d wait for me…”
I can hear you say, the day I fall down at your feet
“Go to hell, just go to hell”
Well I thank you for understanding, I won’t be long
And for the things around the house you left unthrown
And hey, I know it’s been so long but I thought I’d call
And I just kept crawling back in time just to hear you say,
“Go to hell, just go to hell”
My sweet indecision, do you think I’d wait around for you?
Just go to hell
Cause I don’t deserve you, you don’t deserve this
so tell me, hey, “Go to hell”
amazing.
Love this video!!
this guy used to play the venue i worked in Detroit a few times a year, blew me away each and every time
AWESOME AWESOME
so good!
Back vocals that come out of nowhere? All the back vocals you hear were sung earlier in the song, by him, and you can hear exactly when he sings them.
freakin genius!!!!
david ford is a beast
