I do enjoy the winter fishing but I'm already hanging out for the first dry fly take of the new season in October. And now I'm going to have to stock up on more streamers as well. Good see you are back on the locals.
Back country close in May? If you had to fly from the US, which month would you recommend? Last time was mid Feb to mid March. Bone dry upon arrival, then some rain perked things up. Of course the winter lake run would be fun, but I'm thinking more of SI browns.
Back country closes differently around the regions where I am we have some rivers that open till June 30th It can be hard to pick as we get low flows in summer such can cause problems. Mid March till mid April can be settled with better water temps even if still low. I will be down south mid January till early March if that gives you an idea

100% man! would you believe I've been getting quite a bit of surface action down SI last couple weeks on the few open rivers.... Spring is here 👌🏼
Those pies…🤤

Good video , what rod are you using mate ?
Cheers for the vid! Did you not hit the canals opening ballot this year? I put my hat in but missed out 🥲
Did I hear that correctly, 16-18 lb tippet?

Love the Huge gear. We need a THNZ / Huge crossover someday.
"Hi, my names Ben...I'm a Huge fly fisherman!" =)
Great vid as always 😀. Do you know what the story is with the TT? I fished it the other day, it was low and dirty and FULL of pumice
Yeah there has been a slip way up the river some where.
You be careful with that pie mate 😂😂😂😂 don’t want a repeat of the South Island pie 😂
Nice wee vid GB. Not often you get more pies than fish! Good to see Dustin "Game-changer" Van Gogh back on the river too.
Great little video, enjoyed that little winter fishing bit especially, made me laugh. Cheers.
THANK YOU SIR!
No thanks you🤙
