Continuing with our exploratory trip along the Caribbean Coast Colombia, we arrived at the Magdalena's department, its capital is the tourist, cultural and historical district of Santa Marta. The department is located in the northeast of the country limiting to the north with the Caribbean Sea, to the northeast with La Guajira, to the east with Cesar, to the south and west with Bolívar and to the northwest with Atlántico. Something peculiar about Magdalena is that it was one of the 9 original states that formed the United States of Colombia, a federal state during the 17TH century. One of the most important tourist attractions is Minca, a small village 50 minutes away from Santa Marta. Thanks to its geographical position, Minca possesses a great richness in Colombian flora and fauna. In this way, Minca and the Sierra Nevada are positioned as the most important endemic center in the world, with 36 species and 55 subspecies of birds, ideal for Colombia birding and Colombia birding photography. On the other hand, the Via Parque Isla de Salamanca is the only protected area of Colombia with such denomination. The peculiarity of its name is because the ecosystem can be seen from the road that communicates Barranquilla with Santa Marta.
