I really like the cut-off for the start button! I like the overall design, too. It's unfortunate that they won't be making two versions; one with a faster SSD slot.
Nice design but losing a thunderbolt port is a pain. I’d prefer if they gave us one back. I wonder if locating the SSD at the back is to avoid messing up the WiFi signal but also prevents adding in ports at the back? I think I’ll wait for the 40Gb/s version. I may not need that speed now but I’d rather have it for potential future usage.
I listened primarily to see if they had solved the WiFi issue but you didn’t test that. I’m waiting for a version that has solved the WiFi issue and has a TB port.
Same here, im guessing they did not since the issue is seemingly "new" . Not much around on the subject still. So guess im waiting for their next model in a year or so :P
I purchased the first M4 Mac mini dock on Amazon buy some Chinese company and it completely blocks out my Wi-Fi. After discovering this and doing some test, I found that just flipping the Mac mini upside down is the best option. Can you confirm that the Wi-Fi does not get blocked like this one?
There is one crucial issue with all hubs that are placed near (especially beneath) the Mac Mini, that you don't mention. Does it mess with (or even kill) the Mac Mini's WiFi?
Only issue you are sacrificing a TB4/5 port for a 10 GB-Hub, yes there is a TB-Hub but there you loose ALL your Front Connections, so its just a fancy external NVME-housing. Satechi bring out the device with all the ports of the 10 Gb version in the TB version perhaps in TB5 (with card reader and front USBs)
Some people make a big stink about the power button placement like it's the worst thing possible. I have a 2018 Mac mini that I have been using for about five years. Do you know how many times I have used the power switch? Maybe twice. My Mac mini has been running nonstop 24/7/365 for all those years except to upgrade the OS or security patches when available. Why should anyone complain about the location of a power switch especially when you can reboot or shut down using the Finder. The Mac mini seems to be bullet-proof.
I really enjoyed this video and style. I'd also like to complement you tone of voice and 'level of excitement'. A lot of reviewers talk so excitedly that it strains my ears. This was to the point, informative and calm. Well done!
Currently available at the same price is the RayCue hub with more ports. I’m not sure if I care about the power switch issue since you can ‘sleep’ your Mac when away from the office. Nice video… good to see more viable options. The world of computing has become very interesting now. The M4 Mac Mini now has me considering buying a new Mac for the first time ever!
If you have older USB bit and bobs to connect it is great. It’s not for me due to no USB slots added, I would like 3, 1 to replace the lost connection with the Mac and 2 extra.
Very useful report. My use tilts more to Music and I have no need for a camera card reader- waste of space for me. The Thunderbolt on the back is no big deal if you use the Apple Studio Display which adds more ports. I have had the previous version of this and used the memory card slot for HD backup.
Main reason I never got the Apple Studio Display. My old Thunderbolt Display had at least one Thunderbolt port where I could daisychain other devices from. The newer Apple Studio Display doesn't have that just USB-C ports. I ended getting a Samsung 34" ultra wide monitor with Thunderbolt 4. Not as pretty as the Apple display, but more functional, and bigger display. (not 5K though)
www.youtube.com/@rorobeckley Quality video, do think you should have pointed out the connection from the Mac mini to the Satechi as only USB (assume 3.2 or 4). Agree with @captbeardy and exactly what I was thinking. I would get this if Thunderbolt 5, only USB connection from Mac mini to device is a bummer. Do realize that for many users the USB connection would be fine and the price of $99 is reasonable. Three USB A ports probably one or 2 more than needed as having a few USB A to USB C adapters is a no brainer these days.

Lack of usb4 for the nvme was a dumb choice. Removes it from contention. Even if not a substitute drive, nvme suggests you want faster speed.
Sweet! I’ll buy one - assuming the WiFi issue is fixed. I’ll use its internal SSD for Time Machine.
Also unlike the mac mini m1 ,the m4 does not have Individual controllers for the 5 usb-c ports, it might be a problem with the hub.
What about the wifi issues these hubs have caused with the Mac minis? Drops in speed when they are stacked together. Not very thorough test.

Good info. May be better to reduce your own amount of “face time” to the viewer and do more voice overs and product focus. Since we all get an opinion, content creators seem to be frustrated TV people who think they need to be the main focus of the content more than the product. Having content creators’ faces all up front & center in my grille turns my viewing interest way down, or off. I usually scroll past much of seeing faces because there’s no need for those that do this to make sure we see what you look like in the majority of vids. Just one viewer’s input. Thx.
