This is why when I’m dumping my black I will dump the tank with the flush running until it runs clear then shut the dump valve and set a timer on my phone usually 5-10 mins. Come back and repeat. Then repeat again. It’s that filling with water and dumping over and over that really cleans the tank out.
I do the same thing. At least 5 times I'll fill and dump with the flush. And twice a year I'll use Unique Clean-It. 2-3 days before a trip I'll dump a bottle of this stuff in the black tank and fill the tank about 3/4 full. You think you flushed your black tank good? Man, when I dump this concoction the water is disgusting. It really helps break down all the caked on muck, and keeps the sensors working good. I use dawn in the gray tanks for the same thing. About 1/2 a bottle of dawn, fill 3/4 and let sit for 2-3 days before my trip. Same deal, breaks down all the grease and soap scum in the tanks.
What dump stations do you frequent that others waiting to dump, or fresh water fill from the same island, are that patient while you take your time flushing?
The same thing can be accomplished with the regular black tank flush. You just shut off the drain and use the flush to fill the tank then drain. I do this two or three times with each dumping and it works great. Having a digital meter like you have on the flusher and knowledge of how big your tank is means that you'll never overfill it as long as you're paying attention.
The differnce maybe would be that this is filling the black tank in reverse and pushing whatever is kinda blocking the drain back into the tank and mixing the yuck so's it'll come out easier.
Those Flush King backflush valves are awesome! I had a problem with my black tank valve that was stuck open. Fortunately I had a valve at the end of the pipe so I didn't have any issues or spilling. I put a Flush king on after the valve and that's how I emptied and cleaned the tank for 3 months while we were snowbirds. When we returned home, I knew I needed to replace my black tank valve and wanted to get the tank as clean as I possibly could before taking things apart. I spent a couple of hours back flushing/emptying several times. I must have done that procedure 6-7 times until there was nothing at all coming out but clear water. Then I just left the valves open for 24 hours to drain as much water out as I could. When I took it apart, not one drop of anything came out. What started out as a worrisome adventure and having nightmares that I would be covered in undesirable "stuff" turned out to be a non issue. I'll never be without a Flush King again. Worth it's weight in Gold!
This demonstrates a key principle in Black Tank maintenence - as suggested in a bunch of videos. Right after you dump the black tank, put about 3-4 gallons of water (10% of capacity) back into the now empty tank and have this sloshing around as you start your next journey. Your tank and those hoses will thank you. One of those lavender tank scent packs will help keep it fresh.
Great video. I'm a Kleen Tank dealer that's full-tIme (kleen tank on the road 10). We specialize in hydro jetting rv holding tanks. This is exactly what we educate our customers to do. We suggest all rver's own a flush king and do exactly what you did. AWESOME INFO!!
Yeah but you can do the exact same thing just by shutting off the dump valve on the black tank and using the tank flush inlet to fill the tank. Unless the tank is literally right at the outlet the flush king is going to be doing nothing but just filling the tank. It's not actually getting any pressure up into it.
Did you close the black tank valve while usinging the black tank flush built in to the black tank. If not you're doing it wrong. You fill the black tank with the BT Flush, with the valve closed. Then when near full pull the dump valve and leave the built in flush running while it empties and if a lot cones out(,and it will)You repeat the procedure. I'm planning on buying one anyway because my sewer rinse input seems restricted as of late. May be a bad backflow preventer. Also you don't have a rinse for the gray tank and that would work well for that.
How about HOT water entering your black tank. Cleans the best! Connect a hose from your hot faucet to your built in outside black tank flush. Incredible results! Brings it back to factory new clean.
The black tank flush may suck but it’s better than not having it at all. My first TT didn’t have one and I would run a hose into the camper and put it directly into the toilet to clean out the black tank. That’s a real pain to do that!
The Black tank flush works great as long as you use it correctly. Just turning it on and letting it run with the valve open really doesn't do much. You need to turn the flush on close the drain valve blet the tank fill at least partially then open the valve on it all come out under power and then do that a few times. Having a flow meter like in the video is great because you can know exactly how many gallons you're putting back into the tank so you don't overflow it.
Definitely, I close my valve and fill with flush a bit several times . I also rock my camper when dumping to slosh the tank, people look at me strange but it works.
I just bought an almost new camper from camping world. I never used the toilet but when I started back flushing it It started spewing all kinds of toilet paper and poo. I’m now on my second full day of back flushing (3-4 hrs a day) and it’s still coming out. I’ve probably drained lake mead with the 500+ gallons of water I’ve used. I’m going to fill it up before bed and let it soak overnight.
I just got tha setup about 2 weeks ago after watching another video and that is what he was using he also gave them a bottle of product and told them to use that and they would not have near the trouble it consisted of 40oz pinesol and 8oz of callgon bath beads in a gallon container then fill with water and shake. He was saying that it puts a coating on the walls of the tank to make them slick. I have tried this and it seems to work good and it smells goos as well.
This is exactly what I did, but I didn't know they made water meters. So I just ordered one. I will say I'll probably fill to capacity (mine is 50 gals) because the giant dump pipes and their connections to the other tanks up to the closed valves likely take up quite a few gallons.
Corey, Thanks for this…bought one after watching before our just ended camping trip. On our GD Reflection 297rsts, 43 gallon tanks, two gray, one black. We did the black tank three times, 30 gallons then 40 twice…cleaned it completely out. Did the dish soap thing on our gray 2 kitchen tank, 30 gallons then 40 gallons…cleaned it out completely. Makes me wonder if we now have this, can we now use non-rv toilet paper?…your thoughts? Thank you, Scott Sent from my wife’s iPad
I think if you use plenty of water you can use any TP. If you’re not on full hookups I’d still lean towards the stuff that breaks down well. Plenty of septic safe options that aren’t overpriced “RV” toilet papers.
As I flush my black tank .. I wait till it’s full before flushing. More liquid the better. then pull drain, and turn on the black flush wash, (once emptied) i close my valve and fill with black tank flush till tank is full (59 gallons for my rig) then I dump it . I so this process 3 or 4 times or until clear water and no tp comes out. About a hr or so…. 2 years later sensors still work perfect.
Not sure if this helps with this kind of build up but I always keep my black tank valve closed until the end of the trip and dump it all at once. It seems to me that a full black tank has a greater flush force than camping with the valve open all of the time.
Volume and I also think it helps having the water enter from underneath. Who knows. I do know it gets results. Even better than filling with the black tank flush and releasing.
Yes if you use the black tank flush the way you did in you're video then yes it sucks. You had the black tank gate valve open while flushing. Close it fill the black tank. Dump it. 2-3 times faster, works on grey tanks, no need to buy a clear elbow. I also believe there is an advantage having the water rush in from the bottom but that is speculation.
Pretty much, but if you dont care about speed - I dont think it matters. May take 1 or 2 less fills doing from bottom I suppose, but I've done the fill just using the flush then dumping. 2-3x when I'm at a site with full hookups usually enough to clear. It's the sudden drop and outrush of water that pushes stuff out which just slows down after the tank starts to empty out.@@WanderingWeekends
Is this different than filling the black tank almost full with the BT flush and then dumping and repeat? I also use the gauge to avoid overfilling the tank. I try to do this several times at a full hook up and just use the quick BT Flush until clear at a dump station to avoid holding up others.
@@W0215because 50 people will ask “where can I get one of those??” I’ll make about $0.75 on each one that sells thru the link… The link MIGHT be used 10 times… hardly enough to make up for the time it took to do this video.
I can only bet after second rinse close it up again and use a black tank wand nozzle with strong fire hose like stream will knock the crap and toilet paper of black tank walls even better than a flush .I have used toilet tank nozzle on two used rvs I have had with stuck sensors and freed up both of them my garden hose. my garden hose has a 100 of pressure😮sure that helps too.
It's because the toilet paper that sticks to the walls of the tank are harden on there from last usage and takes at least 4 or 5 flushes to get everything off the higher part of the tank walls. Then it starts all over again. Bottom line flush your black tank at least 6 times if you wana make sure it's clean and even at that their probably will still be residual left in the tank. We once for the hell of it on a cool day did our friends tank 10 flushes he filled it with a water meter too and after about 10 flushes it was almost clean. Me I'm not gona stand there and do my black tanks that long I do 4 at max and I'm outa there most times I do 3 flushes.
Are y’all concerned about air pressure building in the tank while filling (either with the flush king or the black tank fill)? I like to keep the toilet cracked open to prevent air pressure from building.
Why didn't you rotate the handle out of the way of the hose? Just purchased the Flush King since we need to do a proper flush on both gray tanks and the black tank.
@@WanderingWeekends I'm sure it did. Valterra designed it so the flush valve easily rotates so the handle and the hose can be set apart from each other. It just looks like it would have been a bit more convenient if you had rotated the handle to the left or right a bit. Glad it worked well for you.
How is that any different tha closing the black tank valve anf filling the tank with the integral black tank flush? You get exactly the same results and save money by not buying the external Flush King.
That’s not nice to call me a weirdo…I resemble that remark. 🤣 While these are great I think the other part may be the tank treatments used and the process some people use. I think some people leave their dump valves open which is a bad idea as that leads to buildup and poo pyramids in the bottom of the tank. There should always be at least 5-10 gallons of water in the tank at all times with a good tank treatment. I dump at the end of my trip (even with full hookups), then I fill my tank back up to 1/3 capacity and add my tank treatment. Then it can slosh around while traveling and work while in storage. The only time I don’t have water in my tank is when I winterize. I also think it’s important to use a good tank treatment. Some of the treatments out there are nothing more than a fragrance. I think the enzyme or bacteria based treatments are the most effective at breaking down solids and TP. Also use RV or septic safe TP. With the enzyme/bacteria based treatments it is also important not to use cleaner in the toilet such as bleach that will counteract/kill the treatment.
Maybe it's the tank treatment you're using too. I just switched to Liquified RV Toilet Treatment. When I emptied my black tank I didn't see any solids come out at all and when I did my tank flush it was the clearest I'd ever seen it. Just sayin', it works for me.
It wouldn't be hard to make the argument that the Flush King also sucks. Anyone who has watched as their holding tanks have been sewer jetted after using a Flush King or similar will testify to the the tons of crud that are left behind by ALL other methods that het flushed out by jetting. Jetting, btw, will get most malfunctioning sensors working again too.
Why don’t you just do the same thing using the black tank flush system? Just close the dump valve and put the water meter on your tank ? It does the same thing… I mean I flush out tank out by refilling the tank over and over using the flush system till the water runs clean and clear with no waste still coming out. Usually 2-3 times does the job without having to buy that thing.
My black and grey tank share the same outlet. I installed a gate valve at the outlet so I can close it and back flow the grey water into the empty black tank. I am careful to not empty or even equalize the tanks as I don’t want the black water getting into the grey tank. I am able to flush with this method 3-4 times and get much more of the nasty stuff out of the black tank. I also put about 5 gallons of water, along with TST, back into the black tank before towing. That water then gets sloshed all around the tank. My rv has a black tank flush but it didn’t work from the day we got it. Dealer messed us around on warranty and it never got fixed. Never had much faith in the BT flush anyway.
I’m going to be honest… this sounds like a terrible idea. Water will always equalize and you have already contaminated your grey tank. Unless I am missing something. One should never keep both tanks open at the same time. Maybe with 2 grey tanks but never with the black included.
@@WanderingWeekends maybe I should have given more detail. I have individual valves at each tank and a valve at the connection point. I will drain the black tank completely first. Then I will close the valve at the connection point. I will then open the grey tank valve (with a full grey tank and empty black tank). This allows the grey water to rush into the black tank. I only leave the valve open long enough to transfer about 10-15 gallons of grey water into the black tank. Then I close the grey and dump the black again. At no point is it possible for the black water to migrate to the grey tank. After 3-4 flushes the grey tank is still half full. At that point the grey water is dumped the rest of the way. Hope this makes more sense.
I think you could have got more out with the black tank flush if you would have closed the valve for a few minutes. This was interesting but I don't think it was an apples to apples comparison.
Actually I do that every time we dump. One could certainly do this with their flush but it would take forever to fill. You need the tank to be nearly full so the weight/viscosity of the water pulls the waste with it.
Exactly. That's what you are supposed to do. No need to buy another gadget unless you don't have a black tank flush. If you have a black tank flush, just close the black tank valve and run water into your black tank flush until your black tank is 3/4 full or more and then dump again. This does the same thing.
Soooo, how is this different than filling it with the black tank flush and then opening the gate to let it empty? Same thing, same results, less BS to store and handle...
Soooooo… I do exactly what you’re describing every time we dump. This method still gets results. Doesn’t matter to me whether you do it. Just showing folks there is generally more in your tank than the black tank flush can handle. Call it BS all you want. Works great for me.
Yeah most of us don't have 15,20,25,30 min to backfill 2,3 times to clean it out when there's a line of campers behind you waiting to use the dump. Maybe her blacktank flush nozzle came off or something. Black tanks a black tank so it is what it is. If you make sure to fill before you dump and run ur flush Same time it's really clean enuff. If ur that worried about it dump a 20lb bag of ice down it before you dump and swirve side to side on ur way there.... 😂😂😂😂
1. Clearly this isn’t a technique that should be used at the dump station. FHU required. 2. The “ice method” has been debunked several times. It does nothing. Have a good one. 🍻

Have you only used your black tank flush?
@@WanderingWeekends Be more clear please.
Can do the same by filling black tank with the tank flush
Kinda… takes 3 times as long and this thing does grey tanks as well… specifically the galley tank.
I had my tanks “jetted”.
Hardly anything came out.
I don't remember having any corn!!!
Haha!
Just a couple steaks and chilli dogs left behind🤷♂️. Not too bad
😂🤣
😮😮😮 am a new RV owner this crazy
I’m the weirdo that watched 2 rounds lmao…. Thanks!!!!
Runs black tank flush with open valve then demonstrates filling the tank 😂
try reading the comments section... I fill my black tank with the flush every dump, sometimes multiple times. This still works better.
No way black tank flush gets more than this method… Ive tried.
Exactly. That's what you are supposed to do. No need to buy another gadget unless you don't have a black tank flush. If you have a black tank flush, just close the black tank valve and run water into your black tank flush until your black tank is 3/4 full or more and then dump again. This does the same thing.
@@WanderingWeekendsThe black tank flush fills it pretty darn fast, no slower than this method in the video.
So you have used the flush king? I’ve done both and the black tank flush is much slower.
Your black tank flush may suck, but mine works a lot better than just filling it up with that the way you’re doing it.
👍👍👍👍👍
Soooo, how is this different than filling it with the black tank flush and then opening the gate to let it empty? Same thing, same results, less BS to store and handle...
Soooooo… I do exactly what you’re describing every time we dump. This method still gets results. Doesn’t matter to me whether you do it. Just showing folks there is generally more in your tank than the black tank flush can handle. Call it BS all you want. Works great for me.
They all SUCK. But it’s better than having nothing.
Agree!!
I saw corn 🌽
Be easier and faster to just put the hose down the toilet and let ER rip.
Yup
Those black tank flush valve are junk.
I have the Rhino that is similar to your
Yeah most of us don't have 15,20,25,30 min to backfill 2,3 times to clean it out when there's a line of campers behind you waiting to use the dump.
you phone video SUCKS, but decent video
All you weirdos !! ha.
🤣😂😉
