Superb! We are just starting out with our Bachmann "Thomas & Percy" G scale railway. Very helpful video thanks. For those asking we have a planned area and will be starting very soon. As for costs we are using brass track which is expensive and have had to set aside about £3000 GBP for the project. $6000 Canadian and about $5000 American
So glad i find this, looks quite easy to just drop the track down like this, i was afraid i had to use wood and screws lol I've ordered my first set of tracks from lgb With 20x 120cm 19x r2 13x r3 ill hope it will fit in the garden of my new house ill find out in 2 weeks time
im sure im not the first but if your new i found that i buy cartons of popsicle sticks by the thousands are th best building supplys ever homes water towers bridges my wife even tols me my bridges are better than any store bought stuf shes ever seen add some multi color leds i even built my own turnstyle house rip somr 1/2in 1x4s fore trestle supports i look at pics in books an build freehand elmers and some thick super glue some model paint farmers markets are a great sourse for supplies i even made my own track cleaner car a lgb engine pulling a pice of sand stone all my joints are soliderd another trick i use i take multiple pices of straight track and solder them in my basement workshop with a laser and turns with a compas scriped on a piese of wood indoors i even made a switch yard on 4x8 sheet of plywood and weather proofedit it and took it outside when finished im lucky i have acess to all the solid silver wire i need for free for control to my lay out i also get free d-8 12v battries for pwr i charge them with a single solor panel i hope you find some ideas from my experance im currently working on makeing my own track from copper bars and oak slats i have the time im retired now all the bills are paid im now got it made in the shade my buddies say to me
I was quoting in AUD if I was to get starter set and extra track pack it would be around $1500 you add in land landscaping and buildings well there goes $500-$1000 more
I can never understand why sidings are arranged so that motive force runs into a siding instead of backing into a siding. Why should you want to Trap your engine head when you should always back your train into a siding so that you can release your motive force to do other work. Proto Type NEVER TRAPS the motor force. The railroad would loose time and money.
Edward Zimmerman Jr Interesting comment but, dependent upon where you are in the world, this practice can change dramatically. In the UK we have “pilots” (U.S. Switchers) which collect the train for marshalling. It is also illegal in the U.K. to reverse a train carrying fare paying passengers; the locomotive must always be leading.
Sully and I Loved this video! Now we want to make one! Thank you for the tips
Nice work!
I am just waiting for the Spring to arrive !
I've always been a o gauge guy but I'm thinking about building a garden railway now.

Looks like a video from the way 90s. Layout turned out great. I wonder if it is still there or expanded.
Yes its smells like mid-1990s
Very helpful video.
cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool I liked it
Last Time I Went Through A Portal I Ended up In 1887 . The Old West Was Really Exciting .
8:53 this is the fun hobby (and expensive btw)
No. The rails are made of brass so that they don't get damaged.
try a train tunnel longer than an arm's length because arm's length is too short
THE DAY I WAS BORN!!!!!!!
brass is a soft metal that also tarnishes over time causing electrical problems. ;)
I have had g scale trains for 2 years and now starting to build, an home know if the bachmann brass track screws will hold up well.
It's G scale.
Oh same thing.
About how they used a drain pipe to make a tunnel, can there be materials like that to make a bridge
4:40-5:04 song name pls

It's a toy train, you'd only lose play money.
i made my own mini buildings
I like buy g gauge model train set
what gauge are they using for garden railways is this ho scale
No, garden railways are G scale. HO scale is far too small to work well outdoors.
If you want grass on your garden railway use putting grass
AARRGH!!! SHAMELESS PLUG!
$2000-$3000
they forgot to explain what happens during severe weather
Nothing happens. That's why they are good outdoor trains. Rain and snow doesn't affect it.
And costs you a bunch of money to fix it.
This would all be washed away in the rain...
Nope. All of this would still work in the rain and not be washed away.
*WRONG!!!!!!*
