It was really entertaining to see the crowd slowly grow in size as the video went on. Shit, man, If I saw someone sending something like that, I'd stop and watch for as long as I could, too!
makes me so happy to see people stick around to see him finish it even though they may not even be into skating. they just see the perseverance and show respect. restores just a little bit of my faith in humanity.
right ? sometimes I can't understand how people can just go by like is nothing. I don't care for BMX riders but if I saw one in the streets doing something amazing I would definetly stay around and cheer the guy up or something like that If I had the time... but most people just walk by.
Exactly what I was thinking, I was surprised to see the same people watching so long. I would have quit my job to stay there all day and watch him land that, but I wouldn't expect so many people to be so respectful of his determination. Absolutely legendary.
was feeling the same thing. i try to imagine how they feel when they see it. Prolly like, this guy is gonna kill himself lets watch lol. But they cheer in the end when they realize the guy is damn good..
I was trying to Ollie a five block that was taller than me and I had been skating for about 8 months and It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in skating that for sure was my war
Yeah. Can remember the battle I had trying to switch hard flip the lyon 25. Took me so long but I can remember the feeling of rolling away, all that effort and pain paid off....then my alarm woke me up
This is the best Thrasher “My War” vid. The positive reaction from the random passerby’s was the best part. They (most likely) don’t know who this guy is or give a damn about skateboarding, but they saw a guy persevering. They were genuinely proud of this stranger landing s skateboard trick.
The best part about this video is seeing all the people who stuck around just to see even one of Dane's attempts. People who've never touched a board before, never seen a skate video before or have never even had interest in skateboarding took time out of their day to support him because they knew what he was doing was meaningful, difficult and took talent, despite not knowing who he was or what exactly he was doing. Even a disabled guy sat by that ledge for hours and cheered for him when he landed it. That means a lot, when a group of people come together to celebrate a strangers success in an activity that means nothing to them. They stayed not because he's Dane Burman or because they like skateboarding, they stayed to see success
First time watching this video and this comment is exactly what i felt i love watching people doing skate, huge gaps, rails and tricks. This effort and passion was awesome :)
Skating is %100 taming ur mental to conquer the once thought impossible. I've seen a guy really get into his car hating himself because he couldn't get himself to 50-50 the down rail. When he knew he could easily do it, having them on lock. But once he finally did it. It's the best feeling ever. Seen lil wayne explain that feeling, as better than all the happiness his legendary soul has experienced on this earth through his career.
The better you are at skateboarding the better you are at falling off of skateboards. It sounds cheesy, but there is just as much skill required to fall softly as there is to land a trick.
buggld also his nails were him on bolts landing from high impact. that's why bails are more brutal when doing flip tricks and being janky on your board at landing, than already being set up for a perfect landing on the board
This is the meaning of skateboarding to me. Yes is nice to go out and just goof around and go home but the best part about skateboarding is when you land something and you just know that you did something amazing. I only had that feeling maybe 2 or 3 times but everytime I knew that this moment is special for me. I can't even imagine how Dane felt here but I bet it was better then coming.
My absolute favorite part of this video is the bystanders watching him every try and waiting for him to land. Goosebumps every time I see the random civilians cheering him on after the make.
2:24 guy on wheelchair wathing you....dude this guy is nuts !!! This video is great example that skateboarding is amazing and it can be understand by normal people :)
This one brought tears to my eyes. I felt like one of the people watching just hoping he would land it. Watching everyone celebrate was amazing. Gnarly af
When you dream of something & then you put yourself into making it happen & it actually happens...that right there is the best feeling. This video was emotionally jarring, so hyped to skate right now!
That's one of the amazing things about skateboarding. The comradery. The fact that so many strangers will sit there with him and watch him try the trick, cheering everytime, encouraging him, rooting for him and hoping for the best. Really cool to see. It really can bring people together
i love videos like this that showcase the raw talent and determination put into each trick. I especially love seeing tricks go down with pedestrians walking by in shock at what they are seeing this is real skateboarding.
I was in philly and looked at this thing today. I knew it was high but this dude is fucking nuts. You can't really grasp how gnarly it really is until you see it in person. The drop on the end alone is high as fuck.
The song, the trick, the spot, Dane Burnam. This small clip brings so much inspiration. I remember being scared of rails, but now, that's changed. I've landed my first 50-50 and going to practice even more
Dude, I saw this in complete awe on the cover of Thrasher. Finally, almost two years later I actually got to see it. This was completely amazing and crazy!
Home town philly. I used to skate pass this spot all the time. I remember this cover shot and his video part. Brought some moisture to my eyes seeing his battle and winning. That’s philly.
You’re right. It’s one of the coolest things about skateboarding in my opinion. If you skate, you’re a skater. Doesn’t matter what color, gender or religion
I've never skated a day in my life but im addicted to all the characters in the skating world like Beagle , IC , Kader , Etc I can't get enough of it I might fuck around and buy a board

This is so sick. i've seen many skate videos with hard gabs. But when i see how hard he hits the ground all time and stand up again and again. Very much respect! i feel the same when i try 6 stair olie -:D
I like how the people watched and cheered him on, instead of complaining and calling the cops.
Jason Wozny If only everybody including the police were like that.
That spot in Philly everyone is so chill
You can actually briefly make out a bike cop at the end cheering along with everyone.
i made this exact comment, and then i saw yours. It´s so cool to see the ppl loving it.
It was really entertaining to see the crowd slowly grow in size as the video went on. Shit, man, If I saw someone sending something like that, I'd stop and watch for as long as I could, too!
2 hours straight at The Municipal without getting kicked out is unbelievable! That drop is 10x scarier in person man!
Sounds like a man who's tried this spot before
Do you skate?

Trust me philly people are the most hype around, everything is worth being celebrated to us.
My war is the epitome of what skateboarding is. Whether it is 3 stairs or 13, we can all relate to getting that heart heart up.
Yup. When I was trying 4 stair and 3 stairs I felt like I was having a mental my war battle. A beginner can have my ears too in their head.

Yes.
Tommy's front side flip!
fuck yeah!!
david gonzalez's huge ender on that multi kink rail would be a fascinating one.
People don't even realize how insane this is until you actually ride up to this. I'm from Philly I'd know. Shamone!
😂
Shamone!
Bro i went there a couple months ago. SHIT IS INSANE
It doesn’t even look like a spot the whole spot is next to it 😂😂
Yeah you tell em mike
This is the best Thrasher “My War” vid.
The positive reaction from the random passerby’s was the best part. They (most likely) don’t know who this guy is or give a damn about skateboarding, but they saw a guy persevering.

pftttttt, thats expert level, my war is ollieing over a line in the sidewalk.
gonorrheaagorgonzola i know man hang in there
All gotta start somewhere, took me thirty minutes to learn an ollie off a curb
Only thirty minutes? Lol I've been skating for over a month and can barley get off the ground more than an inch.

Skateboarders are among the most mentally resilient athletes you will ever see.
Them and big wave surfing
Agree
You got that right. No matter who may disagree, it’s facts. Skaters are a different breed.
Skating is %100 taming ur mental to conquer the once thought impossible. I've seen a guy really get into his car hating himself because he couldn't get himself to 50-50 the down rail. right on. ill never forget seeing Figgy in the hospital during an operation saying " are we done here?"
The guy with in the wheelchair is the real MVP he stood there watching the whole time he should've got the cover of thrasher
+I'm Tokey 😂😂😂
Well he was the only one with a chair so
He was on the cover tho
He made it in the picture
u said he was in a wheel chair but he also stood there the whole time 🤔
It's great that he landed it, but honestly I'm more impressed at how not-horrible his bails were.
+buggld These people are just as good at falling as they are at skating :D
The better you are at skateboarding the better you are at falling off of skateboards. It sounds cheesy, but there is just as much skill required to fall softly as there is to land a trick.
yeah go head grind a 10 stair and then do a big ollie off the grind no shit he was a bit scared
I could'nt stop thinking what would happen if the weels clipped at the end of the rail
buggld also his nails were him on bolts landing from high impact. that's why bails are more brutal when doing flip tricks and being janky on your board at landing, than already being set up for a perfect landing on the board
love seeing the spectators stoked as well
There was something so beautiful about the man in the wheel chair watching him. I can only imagine what one would think.
This is the meaning of skateboarding to me. agreed, one of the best feelings one can experience in life. cheers
I agree! First time I finally landed a kickflip I felt amazing.
Amen brother.
Agreed. First time I landed a pop-shuvit I blew all over the front of my jeans.
This is my favorite MyWar of all time. That crowd hype is just amazing.
I still think my favorite thing about this bit is the random people are so into him landing it, like as much as the skaters at the bottom. love it.
yeah the guy in the wheelchair watching him skate made my day.
My absolute favorite part of this video is the bystanders watching him every try and waiting for him to land. Goosebumps every time I see the random civilians cheering him on after the make.
People just casually walking by not realizing this is one of the gnarliest tricks on a skateboard lol.
I think anyone walking past who sees someone grinding a handrail leading down to a two story drop with a kink at the end knows it's pretty gnarly bro

Best “My War” episode. The music and interviews were perfect!
So gnarly. More of this series please.
This is the my war I always come back to. I've been watching it for years and it still gives me chills.

When i recieved the thrasher magazine in my mail a day i 2014, and saw this as the front cover i was blown away. amazing.
