Ubel probably was able to empathize with Wirbel easily because he was basically an open book in their conversation, he didn't hide anything from her, while Land is deeply mistrusting of people so he surely holds everything he can from anyone he is talking to, that's why Ubel is taking her time.
I feel like Land was just mistrustful, but he kind of nailed it in the bag as Übel really needs the connection to steal his clone spell and be practically invincible, so she's taking her damn time getting through his emotional defenses
Fun theory about how team Wirbel were able to beat their clones. Ubel and Land established the clones can’t talk, so they can’t effectively work together. That’s why clone Erie went off on her own during the fight, which is what allowed Wirbel to kill her, because she wasn’t under Sharf’s physical shield which would have held up against such an attack. (Sharf’s weird brand of magic is specifically a response to the modern style of magic of throwing physical objects, which normal shields suck against) The fact that the Clones can’t work together but are otherwise perfect replicas is what made Sense chose this as a test. To win, you have to leverage the one thing the clones can’t, teamwork.
@@DeanStorm28 I know he dropped a roof on her but he was only able to do that because she went off on her own. His roof drop attack only hit her. (I actually went and rewatched and realized they never actually show defeating clone Wirbel and Sharf, just Ehre, which is why they are more beat up when Methode finds them later) If the clones are perfect replicas clone Wirbel would have been inclined to use that same strategy if it would have worked on Sharf, but it doesn’t. Also whoops yeah her name is Ehre… my phone seems to refuse to acknowledge that that’s a word and auto corrects the name to Erie unless I change it back.
I think at some point, Ubel's priorities just shifted from trying to copy Land's spell to just messing with him for fun 😂 And it just became a Nagatoro type situation
Neither of those traits has been attributed to Frieren being an elf though. Her sense for hidden doors and traps comes from her experience clearing dungeons with Himmel, and her hypnosis-resistance seems to be a defensive spell, according to Methode.
@@DarwinAwardWinner yes, she stated she never cared about dungeons until that journey where she got it from Himmel because he loved to unveil dungeons' mysteries. and yes, she trained to have resistance she had to and I guess as everything else she trained it to be an instinctively so she can't at this point avoid using it, it just triggers. It's not a normal trait for her just for being elven kind. you're a 100% right! :D
The "elf angel" is a depiction of the Goddess of Creation. We've seen her statues before. Basically that mural implies that the Goddess blessed that king and praised his achievements.
Sense is a pacifist for this specific reason: Sense's test did NOT pass anybody for the past tests but it should be also noted that NONE died in those tests, unlike the first test (Genau's) where we could see Sense actually disagree with his methods. Additionally, when Sense's clone stabbed Edel, I am VERY sure that Sense could've easily killed Edel by piercing her heart. She's probably one of the most dangerous in the dungeon, but also the less likely to kill a person. Additionally, the reason why Wirbel and his gang was able to defeat their clones is probably and most likely because that clones couldn't speak, thus couldn't communicate, whereas Wirbel was actually commanding his gang. Ehre's clone was fighting alone or at least not in cover unlike the real Ehre, probably because Ehre's actual fighting style is fighting in open spaces since she uses big stuff. Wirbel's clone is hiding in Scharf's clone's metal petals probably because Wirbel's naturally strategic and he probably utilizes the environment as his style. This may look like Wirbel's clone is working with Scharf's clone, but it's probably just Wirbel's battle style taking advantage of Scharf's battle style.
The part with the mural is an anime original scene. The manga doesn't have anything like that. I think it was added as a call-back to previous episode when Fern said she continued the journey to see Frieren happy, here we saw Frieren not being much impressed by the mural but Fern was fascinated so Frieren smiled anyway.
Seeing that golem easily countered Copy Sense's attack means the person who created them is MUCH stronger than Sense. And they even made a dozen of those golems, crazy work. Golem Army ftw
You know, when I was leaving home today I thought to myself "damn, I hope some hot apprentice paints my brains all over some dungeon"... And here we are.
@@StefKomGeekru YES! We need Kim cosplaying Flamme. She already has the earrings, she just needs a white t-shirt and a white bed sheet to make a toga, tie her hair into a loose braid and a bit of gold jewellery. Done. Perfect Flamme cosplay.
First things first, let me get this out of the way, Kim you are super gorgeous in this video. Love the hair, blouse, and glasses. Secondly, seeing John here in this reaction knowing that he has left FTF, is kinda bittersweet. I feel a slight pang of pain knowing that the number of reactions we will see him in are about to end. I feel bad that i found your channel too late. But still, i'm glad to see him here. The chemistry of you both is what made this reaction series amazing. Lastly, amazing reaction video as always. I have rewatched Frieren through the eyes of reactors so many times now, but both of your reactions brought me closer to feeling as if im watching this show again for the first time. Can't wait for the next episode. More power to you both.
Another great reaction from you both! Denken's immediate realization of: "This isn't good. We should retreat." is so epic. He's fought Frieren before, and he instantly recognizes that the copy is not holding back and is about to kill them. That really sets the high stakes for these fights right off the bat. Next, notice how Ubel said: "You must really want to die." to her copy. I can definitely see Ubel - being mentally ill and all - as having a sort of death wish where she hates herself and wants things to end. I must admit, as much as Ubel scares me, her understanding of how Land didn't want other people dying to be his fault is great writing. And am I the only one that sees a bit of innuendo in their last interaction? When Ubel says: "It'll take a little longer. [to fully know Land]", Ubel's half-bow puts her so that she is staring at Land's...er, "lower body". Or maybe that's just me. 😆 The mural of the Unified Dynasty Era is one of the reasons I absolutely love this exam arc, and why I think it expands the breadth of the world so much and makes the writing in Frieren even greater than it already was. So many possibilities regarding magic, historical events, conflicts, magical creatures, and more, are teased to us through this long arc format. It's really S-tier storytelling, in how it sets up so many future payoffs (at least I hope they matter in that way...I'm an anime-only watcher so far, so I don't know if much comes back or not...however, I think it's reasonable to trust the writing by this point). I think Frieren's smile at seeing the mural wasn't because she knew any of the people in the picture (as you both first posited). IMO she was happy simply because Fern was enjoying herself. Frieren was initially excited for possible treasure, then felt let down because it was only a bit of "history", but she ended up smiling because Fern was excited at the discovery. It is a great callback to episode 4 and the sunrise at New Years (and as I watch your after episode discussion, you both come to this conclusion without my help...ah well, I'll leave my points in here anyway). Wurbel's team fighting their copies reminds me a lot of how my friends and I used to play as kids, by setting up two forts for a snowball fight or nerf gun fight, etc, and then hurling attacks back and forth between the two "positions". They really captured the fun of strategizing and play-fighting in how Wurbel enjoys himself during that battle. At the very end, did you see the reflection of Frieren's face in the extreme close up of both of Fern's eyes? An interesting visual choice there by the director, symbolizing how Fern is a genuine threat to Frieren. Yet, Frieren is proud of Fern and smiling in that reflection. The reflection could also be there just because the theme of "copying" someone is important in this episode. Anyways, it's a very interesting image to end on. I doubt the two mages we see when the Spiegel is being introduced/explained to us are Ewig and Ewig's replica. The two mages in that image appear female (and are Fern-like as well), but episode 2 had Heiter referring to Ewig as male ("Ewig would have cast those resurrection spells on _himself_ "). So it doesn't seem to match. Personally, I always wondered why these ruins remained unconquered for so long. It seems obvious to me that you would just send in three people who are the equivalent of rock-paper-scissors to each other, kind of like Wurbel's team is. The challenge of "perfect replicas" seems pretty easy to overcome in that sense. Still, this arc does seem to have an explanation for why that simple solution wouldn't work. As this and the next episode show, there are two key remaining factors: being able to force the matchups you want (you need someone who is incredibly skilled at detection, which turns out to be Methode in the next two eps) and then just overcoming the other dungeon threats (experienced dungeon crawlers do not exist in this era, as per the conversation Edel's team had in this ep). So in the end I guess I can see why the King's Tomb was an impossible challenge and it remained unexplored, at least until Frieren came along to upset that balance. Good call during the discussion about the possible motivations of the clones. I too believe that the Spiegel gives the copies "instructions" to defend the dungeon (and to protect itself), so that the copies fight no matter what their "core" personality is. This is why Frieren's clone immediately goes for the kill against Denken et al. And as you noted, it's also why Sense fights. Although I believe there's an interesting pattern in how Sense's clone attacks that I will mention in the 26th episode, when it becomes more clear what might be happening. Edit: Oh, I could be wrong, but I think this is the first and *only* Frieren episode in season 1 that doesn't explicitly include a Himmel-related flashback. An interesting bit of trivia if it's true.
Personally, I don't think Ubel WANTS to die, but I also don't think she wants to NOT die, if that makes sense? I don't really GET any self-hate from her. If anything, she seems to be very ambivalent about everything that isn't killing or learning news spells (for killing). So my guess is that she doesn't really value life in general, other people's or her own.

I wanted to watch this again but didn't want to sit here alone, tried different channels but your reactions made me stay, and you have good guesses also! But most importantly at least for me, you show emotion, and that's what this is about, Frieren deals with emotions, and feelings, how she starts to understand what love and care is! I'll be waiting for your next upload! Next chapter is AMAZING!
The unified dynasty referred to by Sense in the hidden room refers to the time when Flamme was alive/died when a single empire spanned most of the continent. That scene was actually one of the few completely anime only scenes. I don’t mind because it doesn’t have any impact and the story, and the rest of the anime is still so faithful to the source material that it’s a trifle of what could happen by having anime only scenes
About the Sense clone discussion, i want to point out that it has every chance to aim for Edel heart or vital part, but choose to aim for her shoulder(is it shoulder?) so basically not killing them but incapacitating them, which somewhat suit Sense pacifist personality
That's my pet theory as well, given the pattern of how she attacks the other mages in the next two episodes. The copy of Sense is protecting the Spiegel, but doing so only by incapacitating, and never by landing a killing blow.
Speaking of readable text in the animation, if you go back to when Frieren was decoding Ewig's writing for Heiter's request, there's one scene where a page of Frieren's notes is visible, and they're written in cursive English.
Spiegel - Mirror in German. Smeargle - The Pokemon. In German it's called 'Farbeagle' and most other languages translate it into some variation of dog. It's probably 'Smear + Beagle'. Almost certainly unrelated. Very interesting idea tho 😊 Love the thinking 🤔
Frieren noticing the hidden doors in the dungeon is a reference to Elves jn DnD prior to 4th edition. Elves in those editions had the ability to detect hidden doors without actively searching for them.
32:50 Frieren smiling after seeing Fern smiling is just a mirror to Fern confessing to Sense that she follows Frieren because seeing Frieren happy, makes her happy. It just shows how their dynamic is. Both of them just want to see the other happy.
Sense's clone seems to follow her pacifist nature, though is still rather brutal, the clone could have killed Edel in that moment by aiming for her head but chose to instead deal a far less lethal blow albeit an extremely severe one just to make her use the golem to escape
I think the image of the Spiegel with two person is supposed to symbolize the power it possesses, which is creating a replica ‘mirroring’ the real person ,so the two person is the real one and the mirrored one 😅
Land's answer to Ubel's question "Are you the real one?" lost its nuance in translation. What he actually said was "Who knows?" as in "I'm not telling you".
in my head cannon, Frieren learned from Himmel [who loved clearing dungeons]: as you are going around mapping the dungeon, if there is a large empty recess/space within a floor of the dungeon, there just might be a hidden room 🤭
21:10 No, each test is different. This is the first time there has been an exam in this dungeon. In all likelihood, the reason nobody passed Sense's previous exams (her name is pronounced zen-seh, incidentally) is that they all tried to go it alone and refused to work together.
Okay, I never laughed at y’all’s reaction. I only cried and smiled a lot lol. But once I heard, “Oh, she’s the one with One Punch Man” I started dying 😂 I wish y’all had a Patreon.
37:25 Sense clone is a pacifist, in a "sense" that it doesn't deliberately try to kill Edel by avoiding her vital part, cause it could easily pierce through Edel's heart if it wants to. Ubel clone also has the same trait as the real Ubel.
Didn't know John was so well versed in Pokemon breeding mechanics. Really gonna miss your humor and insights when you go John! I hope you can make guest appearances for Frieren Season 2.
You do remember that people died during the first test, don't you. If someone dies they die. They know what they signed up for. This is probably Sense's first time using this dungeon as a test judging by the conversation between the other 2 first class proctors earlier in this episode. The replicas are using the fighting techniques of the original. The monster just wants the replicas to kill

This episode was really great and I really liked your reaction. It's really interesting to discover little by little the abilities of the replicas. On the other hand, we still haven't seen some replicas like those of Denken and Fern. And also, we still haven't seen Frieren's replica in action. And then Fern who declares that she is capable of killing Frieren, It's crazy. Is it possible that such a young and inexperienced mage can beat Frieren? All these pending things are really too exciting. I really can't wait to see your reaction to the next episode and I'm looking forward to it. And in the meantime, I thank you for your reactions and your channel that I love and I send you my warm and friendly greetings from France 😁
Fyi " Spiegel" is German for mirror. Its the crystal thingy. Also logically, and because frieren explored all the previous layers and didn't find it, the Spiegel can only be somewhere behind clone frieren. Also also i know its a joke and all, but frieren isnt dumb. She might have a weakness for mimics, but shes not gonna open a chest mid battle.

Interestingly, I think the fact that the Sense clone did not make an immediately lethal attack signifies that her clone may share her pacifistic tendencies. Clearly it is capable of being extremely precise (as evidenced by it targetting the weak spots of their shields), but it did not go for an instantaneous killing blow.
Just throw the mimic in the treasure room and wait until the freiren clone gets trapped and use zoltrak to finish it off, Nt: make sure the real freiren is not trapped in the mimic too
Methode is absolutely Sein's type. I wonder if he has high enough credentials to have participated in these tests or he wouldn't be allowed as he's a different magic class.

I like to think that the reason Frieren smiles when they find a mural instead of treasure is that Fern is so happy to find a piece of history. We know that the clones know the same things that the originals do, I don't think Frieren knows a certain way to defeat her clone alone for that reason.
Frieren was alive during the time of the Unified Dynasty (her medallion marks her as a member of The Court of the Sacred Staff. Together with The Shadow Warriors, they were military "special forces").
Fern: "I've got a plan."

It'd be the D&D solution, for sure
All the mimics are dead because frieren already 100% the dungeon

I'll be waiting for your next upload! Next chapter is AMAZING!
The Ditto ends with Ash and Nurse Joy sitting out in the cold about to die of exposure. Neither knowing if the other one is The Ditto or not.
Lmao
Very interesting idea tho 😊
Love the thinking 🤔
Man, I'm gonna miss you guys together
What do you mean?
@@batugkocakJohn is stepping away from the channel once Frieren is done :(
@@hasty3132Whyyyy????😢
Well, Frieren won't be done in many seasons so thats going be years. :)
o man the last episode will hit them so hard
Frieren noticing the hidden doors in the dungeon is a reference to Elves jn DnD prior to 4th edition. Elves in those editions had the ability to detect hidden doors without actively searching for them.
that ditto bit got a good laugh out of me 🤣 ilyg
Fern being all "My Freiren"
32:50 Frieren smiling after seeing Fern smiling is just a mirror to Fern confessing to Sense that she follows Frieren because seeing Frieren happy, makes her happy.
It just shows how their dynamic is. Both of them just want to see the other happy.
Luv the top and accessories Kim! Almost an Ubel fit! Whattanepisode!!!
Sense's clone seems to follow her pacifist nature, though is still rather brutal, the clone could have killed Edel in that moment by aiming for her head but chose to instead deal a far less lethal blow albeit an extremely severe one just to make her use the golem to escape
Oh man, it's about to go down! I'm so excited to see your reaction to 25.
love your combination reaction so much guys❤❤❤❤❤
The solo leveling statues really traumatized us all💀
Been waiting for this for ages, can't wait for the rest
I think the image of the Spiegel with two person is supposed to symbolize the power it possesses, which is creating a replica ‘mirroring’ the real person ,so the two person is the real one and the mirrored one 😅
Land's answer to Ubel's question "Are you the real one?" lost its nuance in translation. What he actually said was "Who knows?" as in "I'm not telling you".
Just crack the door open and slide a mimic into that room. :)
This is getting exciting. I can't wait for the next episode!
in my head cannon, Frieren learned from Himmel [who loved clearing dungeons]:
as you are going around mapping the dungeon, if there is a large empty recess/space within a floor of the dungeon, there just might be a hidden room 🤭
21:10 No, each test is different. This is the first time there has been an exam in this dungeon. In all likelihood, the reason nobody passed Sense's previous exams (her name is pronounced zen-seh, incidentally) is that they all tried to go it alone and refused to work together.
Thank you for sharing 😊
Land is just cagey in general and with Ubel specifically because he knows she wants information out of him so she can copy his magic
Actually terrifying the thought of Übel being able to use clones like Land. But i guess she still hasn't fully empathize with Land yet.
22:27 like the way you guy reacted 😂
Great episode, great reactions and great outfit 👌
Immediately clicked this notification😌
"today we are watching.... "its me"" 😂
Kim is so cute.
have you made any other social media accounts for the channel ?
You do remember that people died during the first test, don't you. If someone dies they die. They know what they signed up for.
This is probably Sense's first time using this dungeon as a test judging by the conversation between the other 2 first class proctors earlier in this episode.
The replicas are using the fighting techniques of the original. The monster just wants the replicas to kill
John, Kim, you can mentally prepare as much as you want, you wont be ready for the next episode 😂
i dont know you guys are gonna watch my comments. i'm really enjoying your reactions:) thank you for that first of all. so that i really wanna see your reaction to "it's okay to be not okay" Kdrama series. because i'm sure you guys are gonna love it😊😊
28:50 this scene is the only significant scene that wasn't in the manga. So whatever's going on there we may have to wait for quite some time...
She might have a weakness for mimics, but shes not gonna open a chest mid battle.
ohhh hypeee
I don’t think I’ve ever been this distracted during a reaction to I show I love 😳
i was thinking the same thing but didn't want to say it... 👀
She reminds me of Methode
she got a nice pair, she better show them from now on
Will the reaction to Frieren episode 25 come soon? The reaction to episode 24 is 10 days old and I can't wait to see what happens next.
hi there!! yes i am so sorry for the delay, i have been sick for the last little bit but john and i are working on getting a new video up asap :) thank you so much for wanting to watch with us!!
@@FTF-MediaOh, I'm sorry to hear you've been sick and I hope you're doing much better now. So I'll be patiently waiting for your next video and I'm sure you'll love episode 25 but I obviously can't tell you why 🤫 So, surprise 😜
Do you guys have a date to post ep 25? I can't wait aaaaaa
hi there, kim here :) i am so sorry that a new video hasn't been uploaded! i was sick but i am doing a lot better now, so we are hoping to have a new video up very very soon! :)
@@FTF-Media Good to know that you're better, Kim! I'm very anxious about your both reactions to next episodes, but your health obviously is more important. Hope you get 100% soon ❤️
確かに、今いる面子の中だと、フェルンが一番確率が高いですね。
それでも、相手は魔王を倒した魔法使いですからねー。
いよいよ、フリーレンの本気が見れますね。今まで、本気じゃ無かったのが分かりますね。
Great blouse.
He says it 16:38 thats a reason why wirbel isnt there, with sorganeil it would just too easy :D
Please do keep note of the exposition regarding the world of magic is the one of visualization.
Smeargle is named as a pun on "beagle," because it's a dog what paints.
Just throw the mimic in the treasure room and wait until the freiren clone gets trapped and use zoltrak to finish it off, Nt: make sure the real freiren is not trapped in the mimic too
With the recent pokemon leaks the ditto jokes had me on the floor
They both look so similar to Rowena and Crowley. 😂
Hello do you have any other socials?
Please react to Skip and Loafer, its a wholesome slice of life.
Methode is absolutely Sein's type. I wonder if he has high enough credentials to have participated in these tests or he wouldn't be allowed as he's a different magic class.
Before this episode i thought it would be nice for Kim to do a Frieren cosplay. After this episode i think she could pull a Ubel 😅
I think she’d do a better Methode
Frieren is That Guy 😂
Yeeeeess
Sense’s clone has an odd form of pacifist. All of its attack is mean to incapacitate, not to kill.
Ewig is pronounced ay-vick, though the last consonant can also sound much like a hard 'g' in English, depending on who's speaking.
These golem are insane.
14:19 would love to see u two’s play through of Souls game🎉🎉
So, I waited two days and scrolled through the comments, and didn't see that one, so I'm gonna drop it:
"Spiegel" is german for "Mirror"
Edel may not be a strong fighter but she excels in her fields of expertise
Good old Leeroy Jenkins 😂😂
Isnt today like perfect day for Frieren? O:-)
The décolleté of the woman is very... ahum...intriguing...
C'mon... time for another Frieren. It's much overdue... 🙂
hi there!! so so sorry for the delay, i was sick so john and i couldn't get together to record, but i am doing better now so we hope to have an ep up for you all super soon! thank you for wanting to watch with us :)
@@FTF-Media Ah, didn't know that! No worries, one can't help falling sick, and it's not like you *really* have an obligation, even if it were out of laziness. ;-) It was just my impatience showing up.
I already watched your vid, and I think the greatest surprise will be in the NEXT one. 🙂
The SpongeBob reference at the start of the video 😭
Just throw a mimic chest in there!
Pay attention to the foreshadowings
I like to think that the reason Frieren smiles when they find a mural instead of treasure is that Fern is so happy to find a piece of history.
We know that the clones know the same things that the originals do, I don't think Frieren knows a certain way to defeat her clone alone for that reason.
Frieren's weakness: Mimic chests. lol
Sense s clone didn t kill Edel even if it could have exactly becouse Sense is a pacifist, it just forced her to use the bottle.
Frieren was alive during the time of the Unified Dynasty (her medallion marks her as a member of The Court of the Sacred Staff. Together with The Shadow Warriors, they were military "special forces").
I somehow can't focus on anime today. I wonder why.
Great episode tho. One of the coolest anime journeys I've experienced. I need a second season!
