“帮我提高听力tīng lì，让ràng我的 声调 更准确 gèng zhǔn què=more accurate ” 提高=improve we can say “提高听力 improve my listening” or ”提高听力理解能力 néng lì improve listening ability“ both OK but we don't say 提高听力理解 improve listening understanding 提高 usually plus+能力néng lì（ability）or 水平 shuǐ píng（level） 不但～～而且 does mean not only but also--BUT the things after 不但。而且 need to be a phrase or a sentence not just a noun。Example--我不但 不喜欢Lucy，而且也不喜欢 Lucy的哥哥--OK BUT--我不但 西瓜，而且苹果--is wrong. Hope it's helpful~加油
If there is one phrase I've heard on Chinese dramas enough that it naturally sunk in, it's "ni xia si wo le" or a variant thereof -- very common! But regarding that show, not only was it very good, but it was very prescient regarding how China was going to lead in EVs. "A rational life", I think it was on Netflix.
Actually in the first situation, the more precise phrase to use is "you startled me!" as opposed to scared. Scared is when you are fearful of something, 害怕. Being startled is when you are suddenly surprised, it lasts only a short time...being scared can last way longer. "You scared me" is also a common phrase, but is often used incorrectly in place of startle.
I think "you scared me" is the correct way to translate that because it's more colloquial and they are peers. "Startled" sounds too formal. Perhaps if it were a kid scaring an adult, the adult might say that back like "You startled me, young man!"

You didnt explain the actual meaning of those phrase for "scared" like yi tiao. yi looks like 1, so there must be some idiomatic actual meaning of that word or phrase, which should be important to learn to know the basics. Thank you, overall this was a great video with contextual usage of the new words, easy to learn. Love from India.
Thank you for your comment and here is what I think--In Chinese，sometime it is helpful to separate every part of the words\ phrases or sentences to understand better.BUT sometimes it doesn't work because it's just fixed and can not be analyzed. For example--冰箱 bīng xiāng=fridge 冰=ice 箱=box so it's very logic so you can separate to remember. BUT 责备 zé bèi=blame two characters together is one word can't be separated to analyze. For 吓一跳 I think it's not necessary to explain 一跳，because I only hear 吓一跳 together mean you scare the heck out of me but I never hear another way to only use 一跳 so 吓一跳can be together and don't need to explain I think
I watch 2 Drama's, My annoying roommate & always have always will, there are subtitles to help understand Mandarin, it' fun to pause to see how a sentence is structured.
@canachinese1122 I will do that, I get lots of compliments with small phrases in Japanese/Korean/Mandarin @ the nearby airport, mostly from assisting luggage, familiarizing families with the Tech Side inside cars.
Many possibilities-- 1: 不要脸 bú yào liǎn or 无耻 wú chǐ=shameless 2: 恶心 ě xīn--You make me sick 3: 流氓 liú máng=hooligan Something like these but all bad words
