I'm so excited to check out the BreatheTeq, since my spouse has found the SaveWo isn't fitting as well as it needs to. And I am SO freakin' thankful for your labor on this, Aaron. You are a lovely human being to help so many people. As Sister Val used to say to us in US History class when we ran the attendance down to the office, "You'll get your reward in heaven!"
Did you ended up trying the BreatheTeq. If so, what did you think? I just got mine and am disappointed with the fit. I wish the sample pack didn't have such a high shipping cost! I should have gone with my instincts and gone bigger, since I could knot the ear loops in that case, but based on the models and description, I thought MEDIUM would be safe for my "medium face." Another thing I wasn't expecting: "Dispose after 8 hours of accumulated use." On the bright side, they do seem more breathable.
@@GeeAre I did try the BreatheTeq. I haven't done a fit test on it yet. However, it seems to fit my face better because of the hefty nose wire. It's also warmer/more humid than the SaveWo, so that's not great for summer. But it's better than Covid!
RE: whether one should mask outside We had a cyclist ride by our open car door. He was upwind, and a breeze was blowing. He was around 6-8 feet away from the car door. 3 out of 4 of the occupants of the car had their N95s on. The unmasked one got infected, the rest of us did not. There was *literally* no other exposure. We are a high-precaution family due to medical issues, so we work/school from home, have groceries delivered which we spray w/alcohol, literally zero exposure to other humans, and he still got sick. The chances are absurdly small and I wouldn't have believed it until it happened to us. If you're downwind, mask up!
Oh, man, I am so envious that your company (OpenAeros) requires a well-fitting mask at work!! I would love to be able to feel safer at work this way. So smart for all of your employees.
Hey, Aaron, have you considered using infrared cameras to detect the locations of mask leaks? They're super cheap now, and while they might not pick up leaks on inhalation (the media is probably not too IR-transparent) they'd most certainly detect your exhaled, body-temperature breath if it leaked.
So the leaks are typically very small, on the order of less than 1-2% of my total breath so it might be hard to pick up. Good idea though and I will think about it a bit more.
The Champak is awesome.. but it fits so well - i am always skeptical when i wear it .. its so comfortable and breathable that it seems unreal that its an n95! and i love the aura...
Agree with Aaron-- a lot of people who swear they are "super careful" and "always mask" will also do things like take their masks off to eat indoors, or will eat in indoor restaurants, or have kids going to school unmasked and then they come home and expose them... I'm boggled by the people I know who claim they are "super careful", but they are unmasked a lot of the time. I'm always skeptical of these claims. Also, half of the people I know who've gotten COVID recently have gotten it outdoors (at a picnic, at a concert, hanging out with friends around a fire pit, etc.). So my family and I mask at all times that we are outside of our home or car. My daughter is immune-compromised, so we are careful everywhere. We haven't had any respiratory illnesses (cold, flu, COVID, RSV, etc.) since we started masking everywhere in May 2020, and we've never stopped masking. (We don't do any activity that involves removing our masks indoors.)
Too bad BreatheTeq boat-style KN95 is only ear-loops, which don't reliably stay sealed while talking or otherwise moving your jaw. They need a head-strap version. Also, these reviews are great but would be more useful (real-world applicable) if the seal tests included jaw movements etc. And would be nice to add "FF" fit factor calculation to the spreadsheet.
I like the LG, but they will have some design changes incoming including a weaker nosewire. I think right now the best masks are the BreatheTeq and SaveWo, mostly because the breathability makes them so much more comfortable, and they come in sizes XS to Large.
@@coll0412 Nooooo! The nosewire on the airwasher is one of the best I've ever used. It just stays put, and it doesn't develop leaks after an hour or two of wearing it, unlike so many other KN95 and KF94's I've tried. I just ordered a new 50 pack of airwashers, and they still have the stiff nose wire. Do you know when the new wire will be coming out?
Wondering if you still recommend Bluna FaceFit (adult)? I’ve read several complaints that they fit differently than they used to. Do you know if that’s true? Where to buy them? Thank you!
Assuming it's just recent they should be just fine. They looked at the US Stockpile that had between 8-11 years and they were still good. www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/ppecase/pdfs/PPE-CASE-Stockpile-3-v2-03012020-508.pdf
What does + Fix the Mask mean? The mask that fits me well has 99% on your list but it lists the name + Fix the Mask. Do I need to make an adjustment? Thank you!
Because of my method which includes both the seal to my face and the filter media of the mask, if the mask doesn't fit my face it will test poorly. To overcome this I use a Fix The Mask brace to make sure the mask is sealed well to my face to eliminate face leakage and give a better estimate to the filter media performance. www.fixthemask.com/
You’re conflating masks with respirators. Disposable respirators aren’t the optimal choice because they quickly degrade in settings without good IAQ. Better option is a reusable respirator with P100 filters. N95s are respirators folks, not masks.

Yes will include links for the top picks as well, sometimes people send me masks and I don't always have time to track down where to get them.

Aaron: I'm still using LG Airwashers KF94 for several years. Do you still like them for good protection?
