try to set it in small amount, the less it setted, the more detailed thing that you can select ^^

yes, it is a select tool, and you can (obviously) seclect parts of a picture and when you color or something, you can only do t in the part you selected
I think the skin layer was on top of the hair layer, so the parts where she exceeded the line art couldn't be seen.

i know you haven't uploaded in a while but damn you are a master. i just started using sai and i cant even color. You should do tutorials sometimes, because the way you color is awesome and i cant find a tutorial that would even come close. i just pause the video every couple seconds trying to see how you do it xD
do you use tablet?
if yes, is the tablet pressure on?
if it's on, change the stabilizer (on paint tool sai) into higher number

it depends. like in alice human sacrifice video, miku is green
but I change it into green blue-ish in here

It's a way to select stuff. You just draw on the "blue stuff" which selects whatever you draw it on and then you can fill it using a bucket, paint only that selected part, etc.
I use marker tool, and if you want to have sharp point on the end, change the min size into 0

I think what you're referring to is the select tool, where you can select certain areas of the canvas and your marks will then only show up in those areas! That or you're referring to the brushes, which have basic ones installed, like brush and pen, and then you can make custom brushes

I like your way of doing the hair so much
Basically, you color on the base color for something, and place another layer above that, and select clipping group. Now, without selecting, your shading/whatever won't go outside the coloring you did on the bottom layer.

fantastic .. I'm very fond of drawing anime, let alone draw it. This is great way to accumulate the color .. waw great for animators and actors art.
I was watching this and I thought it was done with something supah fancy like a cintiq or an intuos, and then I read the description and saw that you used a bamboo.

But seriously, this is some fancy lookin' stuff. You deserve a cookie. No, an entire jar of cookies. NO, an entire cookie factory.
If by any chance you're looking into a tablet still go for a Wacom bamboo pen. Don't get anything other than Bamboo (I got cheap and got something and it was never that good and never even did a single drawing....) so spend the 50-70 bucks and just get one. When you think you can live with digital art and like it you can upgrade to a bigger tablet.

There's also a blur tool that helps shading to blend, if that helps!

I LOVE THIS! Your style is so inspiring to me. My only critique to this is that in the finished picture, I felt that the background was a bit too busy with all of the texture and I thought it drew attention away from Miku some. Maybe a bit less texture in the background would be a bit better in this case, but overall, I think this is amazing and you are a wonderful artist!
