When Bob Schiller and Bob Weiskopf wrote some of the early episodes of "Pete and Gladys," Lucille Ball chided them by saying, "You gave some of your best material to that OTHER redhead!" ("The Lucy Show," of course, started in 1962-63, after "Pete and Gladys" went off the air)
I never heard of this show because I was age 2 during 1962, and this was never shown on tv in later years. It must not have been on tv very long. Harry Morgan looks so young. This show is funny.
72 episodes (two seasons) on CBS in the '60-'62 seasons, was an off-shoot of December Bride. Jack Albertson, Morey Amsterdam, Bea Benaderet, Donna Douglas, Gale Gordon, Sterling Holloway, Ron Howard, Marty Ingels, Ted Knight, Nancy Kulp, and Strother Martin all had featured roles in the series.
Such Significant Names Bernadette? Gladys (introduced Johnny & I 2016 after the loss of my second husband. I personally never heard of the Pete & Gladys Show Pete, my husband whom passed away in 2016 had a first cousin by the name of Pete Dupree.
Interesting, so many comments about Frank Cady (Sam Drucker, Petticoat Junction), but none about Majel Barrett? No one remembers Nurse Chapel from Star Trek or Deanna Troi's mother from Next Generation? Gene Roddenberry's wife?
Originally telecast on March 19, 1962. 0:30- "Brought to you by.......CARNATION EVAPORATED MILK! The milk 'From Contented Cows'. And by- CARNATION INSTANT NON-FAT DRY MILK....the 'Magic Crystals' Instant...."
26:09 - "TONIGHT....'PETE AND GLADYS' has been brought to you by-- CARNATION INSTANT NON-FAT DRY MILK! And.....NEW COFFEE-MATE non-dairy creamer! The NICEST thing that could happen to a cup of coffee!" 26:17- "'FATHER KNOWS BEST' is next, on the CBS Television Network."
Some of these old TV show themes are so concocted and corny now lol. This one is not very memorable, certainly no one can easily remember it to whistle it. Note Arthur Marx is one of the writers, Groucho's son..
The theme for Pete & Gladys was composed by the legendary Wilbur Hatch, who did all of Lucy's shows (he also arranged the I Love Lucy theme) and provided all of the music for that series as well. Prior to tv, he wrote many themes for the radio shows and developed the classic intro / bridge / exit structure that continues to this day.
This is godawful. Cara Williams was actually a very capable dramatic actress (she turned in a number of laudable performances in Alfred Hitchcock Presents) but a substitute for Lucy she was NOT.
I'm 27 and I remember this show somehow. The opening part of it is what reminded me I have watched this before, but i have no clue where.
R.I.P Dear Cara. Loved your show then and now! Very versatile actress!
Very reminiscent of I Love Lucy. She even sort of looks like her: the eyes, the mouth, and so forth.

A far cry from Col. Potter

Good show. Liked Harry Morgan on both Dragnet and Mash. Thanks.
Like him better in M*A*S*H.
That's Mr Drucker in the dentist office!
Thanks Stu for all you have done!!! A longtime customer and fan of what you do. All the tv from your website and even before a website.
Charles Bush
She has facial expressions like Lucy
Love it!

Thanks!
Guess they didn't think much about overdosing back then, lol
Thanks Stu. Just found your channel. Great stuff. I used to watch Pete and Gladys when I was a boy around nine years old on network TV.
Like This Show! Sam Drucker was a Dentist Before He moved to Hooterville????
Frank Cady also played "doc" on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet for quite a few years
3:46- “ then he sticks a suction hose in your mouth”. Did they have those back then ? I remember having to constantly rinse and spit
Frank Cady as the dentist.AKA Sam Drucker.
This was just a year before he became owner and manager of Drucker's store. He changed quite a bit in just one year.
This is the CBS television network
Look, Sam Drucker had another career as a dentist. Who knew?!
THANK YOU for posting these! Can you, by any chance, post Oo La, La? I haven't seen that one in years!!!!
"I don't want to go to the chair"! Funny I didn't like this show back then. NOW I DO!

Cara Williams is a clone for Lucille Ball.
That's 'cause Lucy "set the mold"!
Makes No Sense To Me!
I'm surprised this corny shit lasted as long as it did.. she TOTALLY overacts and he's much better as Col. Potter...
