Excellent representation of what a Bike MS ride is all about!
I tink I am going to do it this year, for my ms family
I love this video. Well done - I hope one day soon we no longer get to do this ride because we've cured MS!
I have rode the BP MS 150 for the last 4 years... I smoke 2-3 cigars a day. The only training I do is the 12 week Ready to Roll Training Series. I am 50 years old and for the rest of the year my bike sits in the garage... Remember we are riding to raise awareness, money for research and to challenge yourself... Get off your couch and come join us but dont whine.
hey stacy who do ya think u are george burns (george & gracy) ?ha ha .well dude gotta hand it too ya u gott balls .wow smoking so many cigars man ur nuts .that tiporillo or hogie must be awfully smelling but good .well live well, live strong, liveMS bro
Awesome! Let's do this!
Heading to Weston Fire dept to man the rest stop Great day for it and a great cause
Thank you!
Love the video, but it could be a tad shorter. Can't wait to ride Tour de Farms (Illinois)!
This video gives the impression all participating riders are border line pros who have every bit of gear available. I'm sure that's not the case. The video should include people that look like occasional weekend riders if you want to attract more people to this ride.
I agree. I have a path ride bike , it's more like a cruiser. I like to enjoy biking and the view around me when I bike. That video turned me off. It seemed like a bike racing which I can't do with my bike, even though my bike is 28 gears.
I agree, I picked up a reasonable quality hybrid (Giant escape 3, for a few hundred bucks or so) just to see if I like the sport before dropping ridiculous amounts of money in gear (ridiculous if you don't stick with it). It's intimidating, but I might sign up this year.
I've done the full distances of the MS rides on a hybrid, but be aware that you'll be much slower than the road bikes and it'll be tougher (but not impossible). Don't let the road bikes in the video intimidate you. You might also consider doing the shorter routes that these rides typically provide, especially if you're just starting out. I did switch to a road bike after 4 years and entry level road bikes do just fine on these rides. Also, since you have a hybrid, explore the many rail trails that exist around the country. That's something the road bikes can't do.
Yeah, I know it's a fundraiser, but the way the riders are portrayed and the way they kick it off, makes it look like a race. It's not a race, but still I clicked on the link from someone because I wanted to see where his ride in Virginia was going. This video gives me nothing about the logistics for the ride.
As for what equipment you need, as others have already mentioned, probably a road bike not a mountain bike. Even without carrying panniers and whatnot, you don't want to have to carry the extra weight of a mountain bike on a road ride.
Personal challenge they say. Ok. Just remember to train. Otherwise, you will be in for a full weekend of hurt.
I think you need to participate; you will see the level of riders who are part of various teams (corporate, family & friends or individual riders) and most were riding 150 miles (you need gear).... many of the riders have MS. Come ride with us and you will see - riders are from all walks of life and different levels of experience. It is a great ride, fundraiser, amazing organization and amazing people who will become your friends!
Teehee I'm that crazy girl with the water gun cheering on my uncle...:)
On the MS bike rides you do need have a bike helmet and sun glasses. Glove are great to have and also make sure you have a water bottle even if its a 20 oz bottle of water you keep refilling. all the water you have is great to have on these rides. This weekend I will be in a 150 mile bike ride for MS in Ohio on pedal to the point. And its a two day trip. IT a great cause and fun ride. Doing this in honor of my mom who passed away from this. I know my mom be very happy to know i am doing this to raise money find a cure for MS to help Others. you can donate at ms pedal to the point 2014 and click donate and daniel cooper and all funds goto MS.
Is this a race or just a ride? I don't have these types of bikes, for I ride on a modified mountain bike so I am curious if I can even keep up with these guys.
this is just a ride it starts at 7:30 am and you have until 5 pm to finish it. I was done by 2 pm with a bad thunder storm. most person takes 6 hours + the best bike to use is a road bike. i used a trail bike and its a lot more wight then a road bike. Next year it goes from Brunswick to Ashland. still 75 miles each way. it a great a fun ride.
