I was today years old when I found out they were referring to the beat per minute when Jessica says "Let's bring it back to 140" and I am as mindblown as they are in the video. I never thought I would ever learn anything new about SNSD at this point anymore.
It's a double reference - time AND tempo. So you know it was planned. And the planning wouldn't have been easy around the weird structure. Pure and unadulterated genius from SM on this one.

Nowadays SM groups sound very much the same and when they don't the music is bought, never idealized at their house. YG on the other hand is still doing the same thing, the only groups lacking are the ones not in control of their music, aka Blackpink and Treasure so I really don't know what you're going on about.

I Got A Boy was and IS still ahead of its time. Starting from the song itself, down to the lyrics and music video. Everything about it was so perfectly well done. As one of them said, it’s SO MUCH in a way that’s not overwhelming. And that’s something only Girls’ Generation could’ve done, I’m so glad SME got this song for them. It’s been showcasing how much on top of the competition they are.

Taeyeon, Jonghyun, Kyuhyun, Luna, Lina, Chen, Kyungsoo, Baekhyun, Wendy... hell I can name all of them but that would take too long. I guess I stan groups that are vocally well-rounded.

If you analyze it from its lyrics, actually the genre changes make sense! Bc the lyrics is about a conversation between a girl "who got a boy" and her friends, and they keep changing pov between the girl and her friends. I Got A Boy is like a mini musical drama - from the intro to closure. The genre and beat changes actually follow the lyrics along, and when they change pov/going to the next scene, the genre and beat change too. I Got A Boy is truly ahead of its time.

Man, I always thought 140 is only referring to the minute of the vid. I didn't know about the bpm. Is this a music pun or something? Lol you learn something new everyday.
The ironical thing is: the beatdrop also happens at 140 but I knew the bpm was also 140 so I was shocked whn last week I found out it was also the minutes!!!
140 refers to the BPM (beats per minute) of IGAB at the chorus. Usually, a song has a constant BPM throughout, but this is not the case for IGAB.
BPM is a number that musicians use to gauge how fast the beat of a song is. The higher the number, the faster the beat. Sad songs have low BPM, happy songs have high BPM.
When you listen to the official audio version of IGAB, when Jessica says "Let's go back to 140", she's also referring to the part when the fast chorus kicked in (which is at 1 min and 40 secs). In the same time, she's referring to the BPM which is actually a really cool detail this song has.

everyone thinks that GG are this cute girl group when they see GEE but there is a reason why they are the true queens of Korea and thats cuz they can do every single concept and they actually do it, but not many people notice that cuz since day 1 GG have this unique style, and every concept they do they convert it in that style ... so at the end of the day no matter if ur listening to Oh! or You Think u still know its Girls Generation cuz of that unique identity they have created for their music

i think IGAB is actually one of my favorite SNSD songs, and ive been a fan since debut. i have never heard a song quite like it before.
I Got a Boy is a crazy song with so many changes but I adore it so much.

Yep, Loved GG the most, and left K-pop for a long time. After listening to TWICE 'TT' it felt very nostalgic, ever since that time i was following their musics, and it was different yet it was very familiar. Just watch their MV's and choreography it will give that feeling.
Lyrically not so much to dive into but it's ok, As long as they are pretty i can turn blind eye to their lyrics.

Same here. GG, EXO, Shinee, f(x), Big Bang, 2NE1, and Apink were what kept me in kpop for a while, but with so many members leaving and new groups rising, I, unfortunately, lost interest. Nothing against the current groups shining the kpop name (LONG LIVE KPOP!!!), but they're simply not my cup of tea.

songs like IGAB and red light by f(x) were considered "weird" and were polarizing in Korea, didn't chart as well as their other songs, but they were legit some of the most interesting, exciting songs in kpop. and it was good for the industry that they came out

one of the main reason why snsd is so iconic and legendary. no other group goes into so many different genres/types of music then snsd. they do it all and kill it at the same time. most groups are afraid to change it up and do the same type of music.

Sonrisa Aguirre what koog probably meant that SNSD as a group has tackled different genre of musics and concepts each comebacks. And IGAB was the starting point of early 2013 when it's released that some groups did comeback with this 'mix&match' songs after this which shows that they're kind of role model to other groups at that time.
Not every group is talented enough to change it up :P

most girl groups these days can't even sing live even with their easier choreo. xD
Their choreography is pretty much standing stationary with little to no foot movement, flailing their arms around like toddlers, and even then, they are out of breath.

I got a boy is literally a bop geez i still remember when it first released its really makes me confused and at the same time makes me amazed like how can they performed I got a boy with different genres yet still slaying the song, the Vocal and the choreography like they are really fantastic and amazing. Thats why many people love them cause they can slay any concepts.
I Got A Boy was the best SNSD song for me, I remember that this was the first SNSD song I heard because of my friends telling me to join them, memorize and danced IGAB at our school, lol. Good ol' days, I hope that there was a recording of our cover then but I'm just so happy SNSD is getting recognition still
