Excellent! - I'm an engineer myself and love these tear down videos - We got the Creami on a Black Friday deal and, tbh, still wondering what all the fuss is about with the cleaning!!?? - it's pretty much 'common sense'. I'd not heard of the blade/magnetic issue, being new to this, but this is a great tip for a really quick fix. As you say, this issue is less likely with proper use and good recipes. Seems Ninja created a 'rod for their own backs' with this one, as they seem to encourage the use of hard frozen recipes and perpetuate the myth that you can chuck anything into it, and it'll turn out great - obviously with no regard for the stress being put on the machine itself. Cheers for this one!
10/10. A true master at your craft, being able to understand the problems and find efficient solutions to it. I'd say that the long-term effects of using an additional magnet should probably be observed carefully, but it breathes life into a couple hundred dollar machinery; rather than trashing it.
Yes as long as you check it, it should be fine. Keeps the machine going for longer that’s for sure. You can always drill out the old and glue in a new one. That’s a permanent fix.
Thank you for this interesting video ! However Please consider this : the motorspindle has an auger type formed thread which causes the paddle knife not to disengage from the shaft when it is rotating down and up . The original magnet which holds the paddle knife connected to the spindle is countersunk in the spindle to form a flat surface and a sort of flange , so the paddle knife rests on that flange when fully engaged. On putting an extra 2 mm magnet in the paddle knife or on top of the spindle shaft there is a gap between the spindle flange and the paddle knife. The magnet is in that case absorbing a lot of the force exceeded when the spindle is rotating down. So it might be preferred to drill the old magnet out of the spindle or to carefully observe the piggybacked magnets condition after each spin. Drilling out the magnet is “ quite a task “ and “ challenge “ . I did it with a Dremel and a small diamond bur and did not glue the new magnet because it holds itself .
Really great seeing you use the Ninja Creamy, I bought one a year or so ago, then found your channel, as I didn't like the way the recipes didn't keep well in the freezer. After using tips and tricks, and recipes shared, I find the Ninja Creamy really great for some really good ice cream, and thats without the massive price tag, some ice cream machines ask. Hope everything is going well in Canada, and your not too cold!
I lay mine on its side after ever run and clean the spline properly. Some common sense when using the creami is essential to long safe use of this machine. I did the same power cord replacement on my first machine before on gifting it.
Wow, brilliant video Nick. Mine is relatively new, early Xmas present. I watch some of the utube clips and how people use them. Horrifying! Some of the so called ice creams must be close to being solid blocks of ice. Fortunately I found your channel a few weeks back, prior to getting my Creami Deluxe. Balancing my ice creams , sorbets, yoghurts seems to save me having to re-spin, even if they’ve only been out of the freezer for a couple of minutes or so. I’ve seen some people having to re-spin their concoctions up to 3 times before they get a seemingly smooth result😟. Your cleaning tips are great , and wow , the magnet fix😁. Must admit I was a bit concerned about the longevity of the the machine, so took out an extended 3 year replacement warranty ( no questions asked) . Get the money I spent on warranty back in store credits, so a bit of a no brainer. Anyway , great job on the video.
I love the science and hands on thinking you bring to ice cream and ice cream makers. Thanks for the video! I just bought a ninja creami deluxe on the black friday offers. Haven't used it yet. Hope it doesn't have any problems, but I appreciate that you're teaching people how to fix things. I'm a huge fan of repair culture, and I miss just having a guy in town you can take your stuff to fix things! But thank you for the tips! I love the maintenance tips! Ninja should start watching your videos. Could you just re-magnetise the magnet that's already there? Is that a possibility? Thanks again! Look forward to trying your videos when I get all the stuff necessary.
If it has issues, we can solve them 👍 I hate the disposable nature of everything these days. The beautiful land is being filled with TVs and Broken Ninja Creami’s 😂
@@PolarIceCreamery I'm with you! I miss repair culture. Thanks for bringing it back! Hopefully no problems, but I'll know where to go if it does. cheers!
I definitely put my first unit through too much and stripped the thread. They sent me a replacement. Just using normal ice cream recipes are the safest bet for this machine! It doesn’t work nearly as hard and you get a better end product!
Nice video Nick. And I was shocked by all the electronics that is in this thing. I think Musso would have made them much simpler. You promised you would post that most delicious chocolate ice cream in the description, but unfortunately I missed that. Besides that can you please make a short video or just post a recipe of your most delicious plain ice cream; just milk, cream and sugar, and not even vanilla. I would appreciate that. See you next year Nick! 😊
BRILLIANT! I love fixing things. Been doing it for years. Last thing I fixed was a Kitchenaid mixer. Will save this video for future reference because I have a Ninja Creami Deluxe. No problems so far, but when I first started "spinning" some rock solid RUclips low fat mixes the NCD made some horrible noises. Never had a problem with any of your recipes, though.
Interesting that a 2mm shim doesn’t cause the blade to contact the bottom of the pot. Would you know whether this applies to the other Creami models or just the big fella? PS - if there are other common problems (and their causes) that you are aware of, it’d be good to know. I’d rather avoid them than fix them, if possible!
Do you have an engineering background? How's the hydroponic kitchen appliance coming along? I want one of those😁, and I have just the spot for it close to a power outlet and adjacent to a water line.
No I have a constant need to repair and tinker that’s my problem (one of them anyway 😂😂). It’s coming along and we hope to go live with the Hydro unit in Spring next year, a few things to change and prepare for a big trade show in Feb. I’ll have a nice discount for you my friend!
my deluxe needs to be unplugged before use every time, its very annoying. apparently is something to do with a thermal limit on the motor inside. I really wish I knew about the issue before getting a deluxe. I would have gotten the normal model.
Hi, mine sometimes when I go to use it, it doesn’t start up correctly, ie the motor sounds really quite, then lights start to flash. I switch it off at power point, turn back on, then it works perfectly. Are you referring to something similar? Never thought to unplug it first.
Thanks Nick, I still have 3 year warranty on mine, wouldn’t like to fiddle with it, even less likely to let my husband touch it, I’d end up with bits over. Haha. If out of warranty , might be worth a try. Love the fix you did on yours.😁

Agreed, they have created their own issue and the replacements must be costly for them.
Not just an excellent ice cream chef, but also an awesome handyman 😮. Happy holidays Nick!!!!

As said in the video, replacing the original one is the best option.
This is excellent information. Thank you, Nick.
You’re very welcome. ☺️
As a new user, this is brilliant advice.
Good to know 👍

I love the cold 😂, my wife not so much. Thankfully the summers are super hot so it balances out.

Common sense, not a lot of that these days unfortunately 😔
@ exactly mate exactly. Once you understand the limitations of the machine it’s easy to use and keep clean daily
A waterpik does a great job of cleaning the lid out.
That’s a great tip, thanks!

Yep exactly. All these stupid recipes put out there will destroy the machines.

Yeah I’m actually going to do a kitchenaid video as my current one needs to repairs.
@@PolarIceCreameryWhat's going on with your KA mixer that needs attention?
@@garyrobbins6280 just age related stuff, needs a re-grease , new planetary gear etc. It’s a 550Pro that’s about 25 years old.
Love learning something new. Is the chocolate ice cream recipe in the description?
It is now 👍
@ thanks. Found it
Omg thank you so much
More than welcome 🤗

Can’t say for sure at the moment but I’m happy to do a test on my standard Creami ☺️
@ Thanks, and thanks for having shared this neat repair ‘hack’. I am sure a lot of anxiety (and machines) can now be saved!
that should be easy to check : just add a two mm thick piece of carton on bottom of the paddle blade and do a " dry" run to check

my deluxe needs to be unplugged before use every time, its very annoying. apparently is something to do with a thermal limit on the motor inside. I really wish I knew about the issue before getting a deluxe. I would have gotten the normal model.
I got a cheap switched outlet on Amazon to make this a bit less of a pain.

Mine does the exact same thing.
There is a thermal load resistor which can be replaced easy enough.
Thanks Nick, I still have 3 year warranty on mine, wouldn’t like to fiddle with it, even less likely to let my husband touch it, I’d end up with bits over. Haha. If out of warranty , might be worth a try. Love the fix you did on yours.😁
Not me watching and going straight to buy one with the same defect for ~$40
Haha why not, keeps these temperamental machines out of landfill!
The issue I'm having is that it does not turn back on unless you unplug it
There is actually a reason for this but it’s not a major issue and the replacements being sent out are potentially doing the same thing.
Now I feel bad. I’ve been making ice cream by just using protein drinks and a little heavy cream or milk.
