Thanks, Amanda! The food was all so so good! Quite expensive. Think the burger and soup came out to just over $40 USD. Worth it! Hahaha your comments make us laugh. Too good and funny 😆🤣

Lofoten has been on my bucket list for so long!! Only my wallet prevents me from doing it LOL

It is a very pricey place to visit and definitely one of the most expensive we visited this year. We ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches 😃 Using credit card points and miles to fly there definitely helped and finding accommodations under $120 per night was tricky, but Lofoten Planet BaseCamp was a great find for our stay. Highly recommend a visit sometime!

We saw them very faintly in Iceland one time, but this definitely takes the cake. We can’t wait to chase more northern lights some day. Team #polarplunge 🐻‍❄️🧊

We were there around the end of August. So about 20th to 30th ☺️ We spent a month in Norway and seemed like the weather was rainy on and off, but we still had a good amount of sun

Same latitude as Canada?? No. 😊 Lofoten is an island archipelago located off the west coast above the Arctic Circle at 67 and 68 degrees latitude, the same latitude as Alaska, Greenland, and Siberia. The warm Gulf Stream that sweeps past makes the climate considerably better here than in other equally northern regions.
You found yourself much further north than you realised. 😏

    • @HelenandTimTravel
      @HelenandTimTravel  11 месяцев назад +1

This is super interesting! Appreciate you sharing. We did read it was at 67 and 68 degrees latitude and included in our video with a voiceover. The Lofoten Islands does lie at the same as Nunavut, Canada Territory, a Canadian arctic archipelago😉 Thanks for watching! Do you live in Norway? If so, your country is absolutely stunning!

@@HelenandTimTravel Yes, from what I understand, the northernmost islands of Nuvanut are at the same latitude as Lofoten, but these areas are outside of mainland Canada. These territories are located in the northernmost region of Canada, parallel to Alaska. Nuvanut belongs to Canada so you are right. I thought Nuvanut was further to the south. 😊
I live in southern Norway by Norway's longest fjord, Sognefjord. Here, the climate is good, much like in southern Canada.

We didn’t mark it to you’re area, but need to go back to explore more of the fjords. We are excited for a trip back to Norway in the future! Thanks for your thoughtful comments and information ☺️

You do make your contribution of statements for the list "heard from tourists"....
"....Lofoten is on the latitude of Canada...." ....well...yeah.... and it is also a place on the planet Earth..
It is a statement that really tells nothing. Canada is the world's second largest country and span 41 degrees of latitude - 4500 km - north / south. Hence whatever of northern Europe is on latitude with Canada. If there shall be any meaning you could for example compare it to where the large majority of the Canadian people actually live....which is below 50 dgr N latitude. Hence hugging the US border .....and on latitude with Paris (France ). I can add that also the British live further north than the majority of Canadians.
    ".....Bodø...is a small fishing village....".
I don't know where you've got that idea from....???
Tell me how many "small fishing villages" do you know about who ends up to be chosen by EU (European Union) as European capital of culture 2024...??? One of Europe's largest culture events ....with over 1000 culture arrangements during 2024. To be able to host something like that it requires quite a bit of local resources and infrastructure. That Bodø is chosen is a recognition of that it already had a wide ranging culture life.
Bodø has whatever you might need of infrastructure, goods, services or healthcare (a major hospital).
Somehow do also that "small fishing village" have a university with 12000 students.
It is the main base for SAR (Search and Resque) in the European part of the Arctic. Until 2022 was Bodø airport the main base for the NATO operations (air force) in the European part of the Arctic ....now the base has been moved a bit further north to Evenes. At Bodø airport they do maintenance on air planes ... earlier like F-16.
At that airport are there about to be established the world largest centre for remote controlling of airports....in this case 21 Norwegian airports. Bodø also host the headquarter for a air plane company (Widerø) that fly both nationally and internationally in northern Europe. Widerø has a long history ...and did pioneering for flying in both the Arctic and in the Antarctic.
These things does not happen if there are no competence or resources around ....but Bodø have these resources and can host these things. Oh...I must not forget what it provides to maritime/shipping sector also. This to mention just a few things.
Bodø is the second largest city in northern Norway and administrative centre for a county (with a population of 240000) that stretches 700 km north/south ...where among else Lofoten (with a population of 24500 ) is included.
Bodø alone has a population of 54000 .....which is 50% more than the whole population of Nunavut ( which makes up 25% of the Candian territory ). People living in Bodø and Lofoten live further north than most of the people living in Nunavut, Canada.
So one can say that all of northern Norway, who has absolutely whatever of infrastructure, is on latitude with the Arctic of Canada and Alaska where infrastructure in non-existing.
"...it is technically a car ferry...."
.......what is that supposed to mean.....????
It is a car ferry...period....purpose build as such....it have never tried to be anything else. What else should it be...???
Concerning Norway's coastline: It is not just "Europe's longest". It is the second longest in the world, after Canada, with a length of 103000 km ...which is more than two and a half times around the Equator.....

Thanks for taking the time to share the information. All very interesting and appreciate your time posting. We loved Lofoten and all the places we visited ☺️ Yes, at the end of the day we are tourists and spent only a few weeks in Norway, so we barely scratched the surface. We can’t capture the full scope but hope to inspire others to seek and further learn information on their own about Norway, travel there and respect the lands, and share the beauty of the place ☺️
