Superb. My largest Eel came out of the blue when I was fishing the feeder stream that runs past Cardiff castle in the mid 90's for small Chub. It was 9lb 2oz and I have never caught a bigger one. To look at the water you would have never expected it
hello there mate good to see you were enjoying eel fishing sessesion i my self enjoyed it depending on the water i first used worms catching small eels over the pound mark i also stated fishing diffrent areas and found using lager dead bait did improve the size of eels fishing drop off shallwos to deeper area decided to fish one end of the lake were the end of the island was were it was shalloe the the was a deepr shelf only half arod lenth out with weed bed i spotted fish crusing around then to my surprise i spotted two large eels picking of live fish so i casted out and didnt have to wait long i got a run giving a bit of line then hit it on second run i weigt it coming round to 4 60z my best eel on the lake it does pay to move around along side margins and along over hanging trees so i hope this can help towards you findind bigger eels tight line ex eel member derek
I caught my first big eel at the weekend from a Sussex day ticket complex whilst perch fishing, was shocked when it weighed 6lb 1oz, I needed all my snake wrangling experience that morning, a truly amazing species at that size.. It was a lot darker than those you caught, I wonder if that’s a sign that its getting ready to begin the 20000 mile journey back to the Caribbean..
Many years back, before eels were considered in danger, i was part of a fishing lake syndicate. It was overrun with eel. Anglers were told to dispatch any caught. And at other lake near, they used hessian sacks full of bits of chicken etc, tied to a rope, and left. The eels chewed in, couldnt get out. Im glad attitudes changed.
My biggest broke the tip of my match rod when I was about 14. 3lb 8oz, bizarrely 3 feet 6inches too. Not had one anywhere near r that size since. Well done guys, always great but production level has gone up a notch. 🎣👍
Great to see someone actually targeting eels, they usually just turn up when you’re trying to catch other species….Ive heard they are a fan of bacon, more expensive than worms, but might possibly avoid bites from other fish
If you can get them on their back they do calm down, in my experience anyway. Then gently pick them up if you need to. I hated them as a kid, every one I caught was pretty much guaranteed to cost me a hook to nylon and my paper round got me 3.65 a week 😬😆
If anyone wants to tick eels off their list i suggest the river exe anywhere below dolverton. In the summer they will swim around your feet in the shallows. They are just as fun to watch as they are to catch.
@@ommk9650 No, we have two species of freshwater Eels, and a few saltwater ones. The biggest freshwater one on record was 45kg, caught in Otago in the South Island.
i watched an eel in a gin clear 'aquarium swim' as it did everything it could think of to separate my lobworm from the hook. It was avoiding the hook like it knew exactly what the score was. Maybe something like that was happening to your baits.
most the eels gone lots foriners took them i know 1 country imported tons of our eels and i know lot illegal netters stole loads back in the early 2000 i remeber going past river board place and they had hundreds of confiscated nets to destroy i think catching 10/15 6lb eels in a seasion gone
we used to get my mates mum to keep the chicken carcess from sunday dinner and fill it with scraps the butcher gave us for free, you dropped it in the river and you'd every fish downstream off you swimmin up, they are greedy brutes and one of our supreme fish

That over the field when is wet is no myth. Seen it myself back in the 80s. More than I could count.
Eels ...a most specialised fish...good educational video, for these rare creature's
Great vid guys cheers 👍👍

I was watching this while i have my rods out in the back yard. The beeps of your indicators had me off the couch 4 times.
Amazing big eel fishing
Cracking video John Sidley would be proud 👍🏼🎣🍻👊🏼
More of these please. You and Chris inspired me to get back into fishing. Great to see you both enjoying yourselves out on the bank.
You want to get over to the canal at ripon north Yorkshire. Under the arch bridges next to the old marina. They were 9lb in the mid 90's.
Great video 😉
A lovely video, I’ve never fished for them but do intend to. So many rigs spoken about but that seems pretty simple and effective.
Great video ,enjoyed watching.something different
Not had an eel for years so good to see. Most definitely turning on the back works. Its called Tomic inability
Never totally rely on digital scales one day they will definitely let you down...great vlog enjoyed that..Neil🎣
Those wild fruits look like gems!
Eels are amazing

used to hammer eels as kids in our local river with it, beef sausage and liver are more supreme eel baits

Great video and great advertising for Korum. Most fishing videos are always plugging someone’s gear.
We used to use Swan mussel meat, which is pretty selective for anguilas.

Live freshwater shrimps were my favourite eel bait, used to catch loads on them back in the day.
Barry Mcconnell invented the twig rig.
Eels love Korum anglers.
i fish the humber estuary had a few massive eals about 8-9 ponuds on our see fishing rigs
Specimen hunting, whatever next 😂
Great vid widget look at barnards yard in Norwich ust to catch them.up to about 4lb bud near the bridge
In New Zealand where I grew up we have giant Eels. Biggest on record was 45kg or over 99lb.
I'm assuming you are talking about saltwater eels?

Great advice regarding the deep hooking, do you think that would work for flatfish too?
my pb eel is 6.5lb caught on a sticky krill lol
I wonder if the twig rig would work for perch and avoid deep hooking?
Liver is a supurb bait eels
Battery scales lol
Hate catching eels. The snot and the tangles 💀
most the eels gone lots foriners took them i know 1 country imported tons of our eels and i know lot illegal netters stole loads back in the early 2000 i remeber going past river board place and they had hundreds of confiscated nets to destroy i think catching 10/15 6lb eels in a seasion gone
Nothing to do with the mass eel deaths through a fungal epidemic in the late 90s that killed 95% of the population then
we used to get my mates mum to keep the chicken carcess from sunday dinner and fill it with scraps the butcher gave us for free, you dropped it in the river and you'd every fish downstream off you swimmin up, they are greedy brutes and one of our supreme fish
I'll just never understand why anyone would ever use barbless hooks. The whole idea is to catch the fish , land it and eat it
Why is it I always catch them on the river Ouse in York but ONLY when river has extra water in it, I have never ever caught one when river is low
