I use several kobalt tools in my shop from air tools ,digital trq wrenches and others I hope to get more . I'm not brand specific I use what works and very happy with the tools
I just got me today a awesome deal 1 impact and a drill for $140 at lowes I was looking at it for about 3 days could not sleep at night thinking of it like a little kid in a christmas night 😂😂🙈lol

I have trust in a lot of others... but pound for pound, meaning Price, warranty, durability, and straight getting the job done. I have to say KOBALT ALL DAY!
Raymond Ruz I was a 91L/B too, nice. I have the older 1/2 brushed kobalt impact. Makes me curious what it’s break away power is using this method. Might persuade me into switching back to kobalt. Currently using Mikita but I’m in need of a 3/8 impact and a angle grinder.
I have a lot of Kobalt tools and I added this one today. Excellent price and quality. I also use the Milwaukee fuel line of tools but this little impact wrench doesn't have an equal when you take price into consideration as well.
That makes me feel better about my purchase as I have the entire line of Kobalt 24 volt brush-less tools. I am not a tradesman but use tools regularly on DIY projects so reliability and function are as important to me as they are to a pro. I have been satisfied so far and I chose them over the Milwaukee line so...right on!
I have been looking for a good impact. This definitely has some power and far more than I need at home. Thanks for the video! With a 5 year warranty...u can't beat it!
I own the 3/8 and the 1/2" kobalts. these are impressive cordless tools. i use them professionally everyday and i have been impressed. they have out preformed snap-on by a mile. i have had mine for a yr now and i have zero complaints. my 4 amp hour battery runs my tool for about a week and a half to two wks of heavy use before it needs charged. that is pulling hydraulics apart, wheel lugs off, taking small engines apart. very impressive. best part is the price. i bought the 1/2 with 4 amp hr battery and charger on eBay for $150. $80 for the 3/8" and a 2 amp hr battery for $20 at lowes. no other brand can compete with its price, performance, and best of all warranty. Milwaukee ones are nice but they are extremely expensive. save your money and buy the kobalts, i can buy two kobalts for the price of one Milwaukee. do wish it came with 2 batteries instead of one, but for what there 3 yr warranty batteries cost i cant complain.
Oh and I just got a message from the Lowe's app that the Kobalt 24v 1/2" Impact Wrench (the big one), tool only, was on sale for $67 approx. dang that's a sweet deal, especially when it is listed for $129-$159 normally.
The bare tool only cost $70 if you can get it on sale. I bought my dad the 3/8 inch drive impact to build his collection after he purchased a combo kit. Glad to know that he got a good tool for the price. Too bad for snap on correction snap off
That's a 3/8 brush less at 220ftlb. that is impressive. I have seen 3/4 not want to bust that much loose. Times have changed big time 3/4 was air with the proper size hose compressor regulator full bore open. Great job brother. Keep up the great work see you in the next video
I've been using this line of Kobalts for a few years now. They are excellent. I have this 3/8" impact and it takes off almost anything. Might pick up the 1/2 for axle nuts and Honda crank bolts.
I have had that 3/8 gun for over a year. No problems with it yet I do use a 4 ah battery but You can’t beat it for the price and warranty very impressed by it.
Clay, excellent vid on the Brushless 3/8 Drive Kobalt Impact. I just picked this gun up for $49 at Lowe’s on their discount table. I’ve seen several reviews, but this is by far the best and done right!! I’m going to feature this gun on my next vid and I’ll give your channel a shoutout!
I was leaning Kobalt, and your vid just put me over the top. I'm going to pick up one of their impact wrenches. The big 1/2" kit with battery/charger/case is $169 now.
Just picked up the 1/2 inch gun. It has more power then kobalt is claiming. I'm removing lug nuts of diesel trucks. And other high torque nuts and bolts. I couldn't justify spending over $700 on the tool trucks. Kobalt has real surprised me. Best warranty in the industry.
This baby went more than it is rated. Love the kobalt brand. Couldn't ask more. Right behind the Milwaukee brand. If you don't want to buy something just 50lbs more and paid a lot than go with kobalt. I was researching the Tq and price and Kobalt was the right for me.
I have the Kobalt 1/2" and the 3/8" Impact wrench, and the 1/2" is a beast !! !! !! The overall size of the half inch compact is the exact same size as the 3/8", but it has a 1/2" anvil, instead of a 3/8". The 3/8" has 150fp, however the 1/2" has 200fp. The best part is you can usually get the Kobalt compact 1/2" for about $79.00 at Lowes.
its usually 99 but now they got it marked for 69! definitely been wanting a compact wrench as my ridgid gen5 brushless is barely bigger than the spaces i need to fit it in under my car, it was either this or the new stubby milwaukee but at this new price point how can i not get it!
i know this post is old, but could u tell me if u still like this kobalt impact & would the 1/2" one be good for diy garage work like takin off lug nuts? thank u
@@heavychevy4616 I still have it, and still use it. If you are taking lug nuts off, this will remove 80% of all lug nuts, especially if you live in the south. If you live in the north, with snow and salted roads, I would get something a little heavier. Now, I also have the biggest impact Kobalt makes, but I’m not a fan of it. It’s just kind of clumsy and awkward, the exact opposite of the 1/2” and 3/8” models. Both Milwaukee, and Dewalt, make a mid torque impact wrench. They are between 400 foot pounds and 600 foot pounds. They should takeoff any Lugnuts you need to take off. If you are taking Lugnuts off of your own car, and they are torqued to the correct Spec, then the little half inch Kobalt should work just fine.
That might be worth trying. I'm pretty sure it would take the M word to the wood shed and beat its ass. I'm a Kobalt fan. I have a lot of Kobalt tools at home. Glad you reviewed it . 👍👍👍👍👍👍
now the tiny m12 fuel stubby milwaukee impacts are rated for 250 ft lbs, got it on order to replace my m18 fuel 3/8 impact, not that i really needed to replace it, but a more powerful and yet compact tool sounds nice, plus my buddy needed a impact gun of his own so i sold it to him.
Great test, I'm thankful for your time and it was fair, you've tested all the impacts the same way with an adapter great job be safe God bless God is love
I think its best to keep consistent but when you click the Tq wrench twice the actual tq setting is higher and is unknown. With that said all of the ones you tested broke away a higher setting than indicated do to improper use of tq wrench
Actually you need to add about 20% to all the break free torque numbers. Its static friction vs. dynamic friction. Takes more force (torque) to remove a bolt than to tighten it down. For example, it takes a lot more force to start moving a heavy box on the floor than to keep it moving once you got it going.
Without the adapters and use a XTR battery I'm sure it would get the 225 if not more. Good video. I watched this about a year ago before I bought mine. I still use mine and like it. I mostly use it on suspension parts. I use either the 1/2 high torque or the 1/2 XTR for lugs or crank bolts and whatever else needs the extra torque to remove that they fit into.
Juanito actually it does change the output voltage of the battery when you have a higher MaH battery. They put different cells in the 1.5, 2.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0Mah batteries. Each step up has a higher storage capacity as well as higher discharge rate. Some manufactures do some dont. I know kobalt and ryobi do. They both use Samsung 18650 cells
A few guys hv them here and the are bad ass so far the holding up Am a team red guy but that kobolt is inpressive These young guys know nothing of the old air line hose days Coming of the gun whipping you till someone cuts the air off Or people tripping on them breaking bones and getting stiches Aw the good old days
Man I am not gonna lie, that adapter on there, but I understand the reason for the fairness of the test. But to see that 3/8 pull that 11/2 lugnut at 225 was impressive. Try the new milwaukee m 18 fuel gen 2. Man that thing is impressive!! Thanks for the great video.
I work for a dealership, and picked up the 1/2 impact wrench full kit and 3/8 impact wrench bare tool about two weeks ago. 3/8 has been impressive with skid plates and brake calipers/brackets and such. 1/2 has been equally impressive except for one lug nut it wouldn't break. Grabbed a coworker's Mac 1/2 inch 20v impact wrench and it impacted for about 8 seconds before it broke free, so I don't fault the Kobalt with that one. 1/2 inch full kit was $169. Wife got a $100 coupon when Lowes did their "spring Saturday coupon" promotion and the 3/8 bare tool was $102, so paid $2.14 after taxes! So for a couple bucks shy of $200, got the 1/2 and 3/8 impacts, 4.0ah battery, charger and bag. For that price, I'm beyond pleased with their performance.
I love that type of torque wrench. My boss let me use his a couple months ago on a jeep 4.0 head but first he gave me his snap on Brutus and that was way overkill
Both 3/8 and 1/2 bare tool are on sale for $79 right now. The big 1/2 bare tool is $95 (clearance at my store), combo kit with 4.0Ah battery/charger $199.
I feel it would have done more than that if not using that 3/8 to 1/2 adapter. That adapter absorbs impacts and causing it to lose torque at the nut. Maybe do another one without that adapter and see how much more you could get out of it. one bad ass impact.
I'm invested in the Makita line and I love their tools, but the impacts that they offer are just too damn expensive. I'm going to buy this and the Kobalt 1/2 inch impact on black friday because I can get them both with a battery and charger for less than the Makita 1/2 inch impact bare tool.
@@pennfishing9246 hex impacts are for speed, they will always disappoint in the torque department. I work at a remodeling company and every one of us has tried to use our hex impact to work on our car or truck. Obviously it'll do light duty just fine but they just don't do what a 3/8 or 1/2 hog ring does because the gearing is different.
I'm glad I've already converted my power tools to all Kobalt 24v line, I had the Kobalt 24v Impact Wrench, that has the same housing and guts as this one but made for 1/4" bits and while I was using it on a roof 3 stories up, I dropped it and it slid off the roof and fell directly onto concrete and the battery stayed attached and only a few scratches, but other than that it work just as good as it was when new. I hope Kobalt keeps this 24v line and expands it to more tools, and keeps innovating.
Thank you for sharing this! QS: What deep sockets do you recommend that works best for this 3/8 Kobalt Impact Wrench? I'm having trouble finding a pair that fits.
I have Kobalt impact sockets and they are amazing. GP (Grey Pneumatic) makes awesome sets in fact if you want one set to do it all look at the GP duo sockets! They are thin like chrome but built for an impact and they hold up great!
Convinced me too try the 1/2” drive kolbalt impact $200 right now 5 yr warranty 650 ft/lbs torque worth a try I’m interested in that 3/8 also but I’m always using 1/2 with an impact not so much with the 3/8, great video
Hey brotha, I thank you for all your hard work on these videos, mind if I ask if y'all can try the same test with a *DeWALT* 3/8 drive impact wrench as well? Thanks again!
If I had one I would do it, but I won’t be buying one. I am 3/8” Impact poor right now. I have 3 snap on, Kobalt, and Milwaukee I’m battery powered ones !
@@KoonTrucking That's a damn shame. I've read a lot of comments from DeWalt stans arguing how good they are compared to Milwaukees & Kobalts when it comes to Specs & I'm curious like George if it's true or not. Also, I think it's bull how people are complaining about your method. It's a *DAMN GOOD* idea to see how far they can go with adaptors, cuz when you use sockets with with the same drive size, it's going to exceed those results. You convinced me to go with the 3/8 drive kobalt with your testing so thank you sir! I hope you find an opportunity down to road to try one of those DeWalts tho 👌
@@KoonTrucking All good brotha. Actually, I just purchased a MONSTER 24V Kobalt "1/2" Impact Wrench that can torque up to 650 ft/lbs. If you're interested in testing that bad boy out, I'll be more than glad to ship it out to ya to try it out!
I have a question. Please do not hate me for asking. The torque wrench you are using, What is the difference between that one and a regular click torque wrench? I am not talking about it being a snap on. I have seen other manufactures making that style.
I have the 3/8" and 1/2" versions. The main issue I have with my 3/8" is the chuck grips onto sockets and won't let go. It takes like 5-10min to get a impact socket off after use....lol
I'm sold was never big on cobolt tools I've had them not Last.. But looks like cobolt has stepped up their game. Been a dewalt fan for many years. But looks like cobolt is getting up there with dewalt.
Just curious what kind of torque wrench is that and how high does it go? Far as the kobalt impacts I have all three 1\4, 3\8 and 1\2 I love them. Very well built tools
You should put a fresh battery in and see if it will break 225 loose. I noticed with my Kobalt that it gets a little weaker after each lug nut and one battery only lasts me around 16 lug nuts before it's too weak to pull any more off even though it isn't totally dead. Another guy has a review where he got over double peak TQ compared to the dewalt and 7lbs more than Milwaukee.
I've been using my Kobalt 24s in maintenance at an industrial extrusion facility for over two years and they are still holding up strong. I use my half inch to tighten 19M allen bolts to around 200ft lbs. I do recommend opening the case and spraying the circuit board with electrical sealer if you plan on working outside where it might get splashed or catch a slight rain.
I buy a lot of tools. One tool brand new might be better than another tool. But 8 months down the road under regular use that new tool that kicked butt is now sitting in the bottom of the drawer because it can't keep up to the quality branded tools anymore. New sometimes is like it got a shot of five hour energy drink and after the five hours its not so good
Those two attachments/adapters take away a lot of the "impact" action. To really get a good accurate gauge you will need to remove all of them and use just the socket on tool only. This little thing is a beast especially when you get the big $40 battery. I've only charged my tool 2 times in over 6 months. lol
Well it was a test to compare it to the Milwaukee m18 Fuel 3/8” and the Snap On 14.4 (CT761) the lugs On a Truck was the only thing we had that would be able to handle the torque ratings we could put on them. I did the exact same test with both of the Snap On and Milwaukee so the adapters has to be there for this test to be a fair base line test. I understand they loose torque but it was all the same stuff used In all 3 videos to show this gun out performed them all at a way lower price and better warranty.
Great test! Glad our tools are living up to their testing in real world applications.
I use several kobalt tools in my shop from air tools ,digital trq wrenches and others I hope to get more . I'm not brand specific I use what works and very happy with the tools
Not to mention your batteries are like 20$ for 2.0 ah and like 50 for 5.0ah when dewalts is like 80$ thats what sold me

That's pretty impressive considering it's only rated at 150 ft-lbs. Kobalt is clearly conservative in their specs.
True. The 24v Impact Wrench absolutely annihilates these tests. There's a video of it breaking 880lbs but rated at 650.
im not surprised their 8 amp corded 350 ft lbs is actually around 500+

Both 3/8 and 1/2 bare tool are on sale for $79 right now. The big 1/2 bare tool is $95 (clearance at my store), combo kit with 4.0Ah battery/charger $199.
That joker was HOT at the end wasnt it!! haha! thanks for the video
Pretty darn good considering you used the same battery.it would probly bust that 225 with a fresh battery
Can you compare it to Milwaukee? Maybe do a test
We have done the Milwaukee. Take a look at the playlists “Impact Test”
Dang!! That’s Legit!!
Its bad to the bone
VERY interesting!Did you do a comparison of the 3 for tightening torque?
No just breakaway
No just breakaway
Check out the Kobalt 1/2 inch impact wrench................that thing is a BEAST
That's a tough little gun!! Have a great day
That's impressive. I already bought the drill and impact driver and a few $10 batteries. Makes sense to buy this one. Wish they made a ratchet.
Coming out either by Christmas or in the spring of 2020!
Nice wich one ur personal opinion better the compact or full size for a light way wrk just car tires axle nuts ect
That's fn amazing! Especially with an adapter.
I am not so sure it would not have done the 225 ft/lb, look at the video again and you can see the number 33 size of the socket moving to the left.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos ❤️
BTW, how's the tool and battery holding up?
Impressive for a value priced impact
I know im late but can you update us on how its holding up your tool reviews are realy helpful thanks
It is still going strong. It was used yesterday on a service call
thanks for the reply would you recommend it as a starter or would you recomend spending the extra money and getting the 3/8 milwaukee stubby?
The new XTR Is a BEAST
Thanks for making this video 👍🏽👍🏽
I just the 1/2 compacted one I hope it dose good
Great test !
What is the name of your intro song I like it
Like the comparison videos! What is an “average” amount of time one uses an impact before deciding it isn’t going to break a nut loose?
Tim Jackson haha I’m not sure really 🤔 I guess until u decide it just ain’t gonna work ! Haha
I'm guessing a minute would be it!! Impacts per min
I was actually looking at this gun at Lowe's it was $99 now it's $89 after I left I'm going back there tomorrow lol
Me too brother! i was contemplating the Milwaukee or the HF earthquake. NOT ANYMORE. Lowe's here i come, mask and all 😷! Lol
@@KLartrandM homedepot got new sale impact hex Milwaukee for $99 bux comes with bag battery and a charger
@@KoonTrucking Thank you!!
Convinced me too try the 1/2” drive kolbalt impact $200 right now 5 yr warranty 650 ft/lbs torque worth a try I’m interested in that 3/8 also but I’m always using 1/2 with an impact not so much with the 3/8, great video
And each adapter you add decreases break away power by 5lb each ...im getting one👊
Hey brotha, I thank you for all your hard work on these videos, mind if I ask if y'all can try the same test with a *DeWALT* 3/8 drive impact wrench as well?
Thanks again!
I second that
If I had one I would do it, but I won’t be buying one.
If you're interested in testing that bad boy out, I'll be more than glad to ship it out to ya to try it out!
are you using the small battery? mine has slightly more power with the 4ah
I have a question. Please do not hate me for asking. The torque wrench you are using, What is the difference between that one and a regular click torque wrench? I am not talking about it being a snap on. I have seen other manufactures making that style.
There isn’t. I actually think that one is made by precision torque wrenches for Snap On
Kobalt seems like a decent low price 2nd line to inest in for those tool you don't use a lot and can't justify spending a premium of some of the big 3
That's exactly what I do. I go with Milwaukee and Kobalt to round out the price point.
thank you u just sold me in this 3/8 impact
Do these tests with the kobalt 6 hour battery
That's a badass torque wrench.. do a video on it lol
It looked like the socket was starting to turn just before you stopped at 225
I have the 3/8" and 1/2" versions. The main issue I have with my 3/8" is the chuck grips onto sockets and won't let go. It takes like 5-10min to get a impact socket off after use....lol
Catloco's Garage yeah I have to use pliers to get it off also
Catloco's Garage file the washer a bit at a time till you get it where you want.
The 3/4” goes to 600 ft lbs
What brand I need one and like that design
Snap On
You should put a fresh battery in and see if it will break 225 loose.
Did you burn your hand @8:12 ?
Torque wrench link please
Just a snap On 3/4” click style
I've been using my Kobalt 24s in maintenance at an industrial extrusion facility for over two years and they are still holding up strong. I use my half inch to tighten 19M allen bolts to around 200ft lbs.
I do recommend opening the case and spraying the circuit board with electrical sealer if you plan on working outside where it might get splashed or catch a slight rain.
They are really good tools especially for the money and amount of warranty they have
I buy a lot of tools. One tool brand new might be better than another tool. But 8 months down the road under regular use that new tool that kicked butt is now sitting in the bottom of the drawer because it can't keep up to the quality branded tools anymore. New sometimes is like it got a shot of five hour energy drink and after the five hours its not so good
Love to see how the 1/2 does.
I don’t have it. I have the Milwaukee 1/2 so ..... no way to test that one.
Room 2three7 Exact same. Only difference is the drive size on it...
OzarksTactical Homesteading thanks.
It needs a 4amp battery
You do know adding the 4 amp battery will not increase the strength of the tool just how long it will run
NICE!!! I just got one of these today!!
Gotta do the dewalt 1/2 inch mid torque
Good test going to buy me one
I understand they loose torque but it was all the same stuff used In all 3 videos to show this gun out performed them all at a way lower price and better warranty.
lol I didn't watch the last 10 seconds until now.
