Thank you for the update. 🙂👍
Please note, at 0.10 in the foreground is heavy rail formation from Ashburys (Midland Junction to Philips Park Junction. It goes right past the Colin Bell Stand, the Athletics Stadium and the Gasometer. Yet for most people is hidden in "plain site".
The Government promised the 'Northern Hub' and to pay for it to be upgraded to main line standards and electrified and to alleviate the bottle-neck at Picc. Trains from Sheffield were to be re-routed to Vic.
Only the Ordsall Chord was built in the "Northern Hub" and without the rest is not at capacity. Kind of a, White Elephant of what might have been.
As the environment has risen up the agenda long distance electric trains stopping at MCFC and the Co-op Arena would be a huge advantage.
MCFC via the expansion and environment you'd think would be a shoo-in for a station so close to both.
I am not holding my breath. It looks the metals have been uplifted and clean ballast on the permanent way. They really need to get their heads out of the sand and make use of this valuable artery. Compared to the transfer fees a station here would cost chicken feed.
Once a heavy rail formation is built upon it usually disappears forever.
The proposed HS3 is a fifteen minute walk away along Briscoe Lane to the left of this shot on the line from Vic to Stalybridge. Park station was closed which would serve both the Co-op Arena and MCFC. The route is active but trains rush through but don't call.
High time the authorities got their act together and made better use of what they have.
The sight of the towers in the distance is hugely changing.

I thought the old railway was part of the old colliery and a disused branch line. This is definitely a missed opportunity. Thanks for the explanation.
