Warren and Ian really kick butt with the 6-18 saw. The two of them work as a team so well. You can see Warren using hand signals to Ian on what the next cut should be to best maximize the board footage in the log. They are really great guys if you ever get to meet them. The 6-18 is a great machine, can make dimensional lumber, slabs, and weather boards. I was looking to get the 10-30 but realized this saw fits my needs and is a better value than the bigger saw. Thanks Lucas sawmill for making a fantastic saw. God bless stay safe. Hope to see you folks again at Baileysonline woodland ca.
What are the trade offs between the lucas and a bandsaw mill? It seems like the lucas is better for dimentional lumber and the bandsaw is better for specialty cuts and wider boards am I missing something, Or is that a fair assessment
I run a timber King 2200 it's a great machine and allows me to offload packs of lumber with a machine without having to pull individual boards which is nice when you only have one person and yes the ability to cut large cants or slabs. The downside would be trouble pushing through hard knots and pitch pockets especially in large logs that's when I start to see the occasional wavy cut.
Do you have to dry out the wood on a newly felled tree? If so, how long? And are there ways to speed up the process of drying out the wood (assuming you have to do this)?
@@LucasPortableMills I was actually wondering - when you cut green logs how long typically do you need to dry out the wood before building with it ... and is there a method used to dry the wood and keep it straight that's preferred (e.g. do you just lay the wood flat in a shed and wait 6 months)? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys, life is not a race or some competition against someone, something else. Relax. It's just wood cutting. Your egos do not need to prove yourselves or your machine. Stupid rushing and stress are the things which cause mistakes and accidents.
LOL Did you miss the title or what. This actually is a competition held annually to demonstrate the productivity of each brand and model that attends the event. To not run the unit as fast as possible would make attending pointless. I wouldn't be surprised if they even adjust the governor to over rev the engine in events like this.

Lucas cuts both ways & can be set up around large logs. A bandsaw has a thinner blade so less log becomes sawdust.
My next gym workout.
Just on verge of ordering it.
