I am so glad you are doing this experimenting. I truly believe that rabbits are a key asset for coming increasing famine in the world because you can grow most of their feed at least on a non industrial farming level for the average person. We here in America are facing some real food pressure to eat more unhealthy foods and forgo meat while our population is suffering from a lack of nutrition causing many diseases. Being fat does not equate to health as many get fat as their bodies crave real nutrition so they just keep eating the abundant carbohydrate foods that are processed and in their stores. We went back to raising rabbits after a long time hiatus due to a family tragedy so now, times are much worse here and I am focusing on building my rabbitry and looking into alternative feeds. Rabbit pellets here in California, USA are selling for at least $22 US for #50. This is very high and I am not so sure that these pellets will always be available. Some of the feeds that I am looking into are "sainfoin" which is a non bloat perennial legume and " Birdsfoot Trefoil" which is also a non bloat legume that can be grown without continual irrigation. I personally have little land so am looking for a partner near me that does. These would be on a small scale using a scythe for hand harvesting. May God bless your efforts to help you community and please keep us posted on your progress! Thanks

Hi Rose, thank you for comments. Very insightful. $22 for #50 is on the high side and not helpful to the rabbit community. But the health side of the meat surely outweighs the hindrances...Keep it up and we are looking forward to learning from you too. I like the "non-bloat" legumes. I will research and locate these plants in our area. Thank you and keep it up🙏

Thank you and as a new rabbit farmer this was helpful. Here in the Bahamas we use Shepherds needle, sorghum or Guinea corn biomass, and they also like Amaranthus. How do you dry in the rainy season ?

Here we have a Mediterranean climate so it does rain the winter and early spring some but not a lot. I just dry when the weather permits.
