man-o-man your Dad has the best tools ever. I'm a collector of old tools and trying to teach my son the benefit of quality tools. I know your Dad has passed so you have my condolences but, your Dad left you a legacy and memories that will never leave.
Just what I was attempting to do, today! I was attempting to sharpen my Delta jointer knives, to no appreciable avail. You've given me a great idea! Those six-inch knives cost 86 bucks!
Matthias Wandel You could give everyone 100 dollars and someone would be upset.... people need something to be angry at. Its usually them they are mad at, however complaining to one's self is not as satisfying.
grizzly tools used to sell one like that. we went to a dispos-a-blade system because we could'nt get blades sharpened locally. the dispos-a-blade system was cheaper in the long run, dull one side flip it over, then when that side was dull throw em away. they stayed sharp as long as a regular blade.
Hi Mathias regarding this sharpening machine, just got one delivered today, same system, different brand, Holzmann, the machine itself is ok apart of that lifting / lowering crap, tried all day to get the table plan with the grinding stone, but I think that never gonna happen.
quik question, how "straight" is the blade edge after sharpening? cous i heard a lot people say that it gets "round" if you sharpen it yourself, so im courious
I just bought the same grinder from Grizzly for $300 and it comes with a 120 grit stone. But they also offer a 220 grt and 320 grt stone so I ordered an extra 320 grit stone with mine. The extra stone wheels are like $30 but I would imagine you can get then a heck of a lot sharper with a 320 grit stone.
Todd Hetzel it doesn’t work with water you just have to make sure that you don’t go too slow or it will burn but guess what it’s a bit harder to burn because it’s a much harder steel at the sharpened edge
OD VR I'm not sure but I think the height of the knobs that the blade it being pushed against, is determined by how much material you are taking away. The angle of the grind is determined by the slide which you can see clearly at about 2 minutes into the video just under the slide and cast iron combo. (I know this is an old comment but I thought this might help)
It appears that if you ground a bit of the back rail away, between two of the depth screws, that this would also work wonderfully for hand plane irons and chisels.
@JonoNZ110 i don't think he bothers with that. there's a sharpening video he did with regard to chisels a few years back and if i remember right he mentioned he doesn't get religious with his edges.

@@MarksWorldofEngravingandMore ya. I mean that the 120 appears smoother in real life application.. I’m not sure why? I should get a 320 tho, i imagine that would look more like 800 with what I’m seeing for the 120 (looks like 600-1200ish). I can move right to a 2000, or strop, depending on the application.
I built something like this once. Except I mounted the cup stone in my drill press and made a base that slid back and forth underneath it. It worked great.
Morso blades are hollow ground so you need to use a machine where the wheel is angled so that the edge of the wheel does the grinding NOT the flat of the wheel like normal, the edges are then hand finished with a soft mirco granular stone used with oil.
Next on Matthiaswandel, we make a planer blade sharpener out of wood salvaged from an old barn. (I KEED! I KEED!) But seriously folks, does anybody doubt that he could?
I would call that a planer blade wrecker.... for several reasons.... It oveheats the blade, it sharpens only one blade at a time and thus throwing the blade set out of balance... but its a way for the home gamer to be able to at least get the job done... By no means the best way
@Matthiaswandel Happens to me sometimes too. Every once in a while, my mouse malfunctions and I accidentally thumb down a video when I wanted to click thumbs up. Do people always notice that they misclicked?
A company named Foley Belsaw made a bunch of sharpening tools like this as well. I just picked one up for $5 the other day along with a bunch of other stuff that nobody wanted at an auction. I knew it was for sharpening planer blades, but I didn't know how it all went together and was used. Mathias to the rescue! (Though I'll need a new stone or need to flatten the one I've got for the thing before it sees any action.)

Yes, I know that. But what fewer people know is that the top edge of calipers is designed for measuring steps.
Just what I was attempting to do, today! I was attempting to sharpen my Delta jointer knives, to no appreciable avail. You've given me a great idea! Those six-inch knives cost 86 bucks!
Oh, sooner or later, some person or another will dislike it. Happens to all my videos.

I usually like to think that person is sitting on the opposite side of the device hitting thumbs up 😂!
Don't forget about the burs! The burs are the microscopic foil-like filament that is formed when the edges meet. That will make it even MORE sharp!
How did you hone the burr off and flatten the back?
old machine rock, you never the same quality on new machines at all

@Matthiaswandel I did not know about that function of a caliper!
How about doing a video showing all the caliper tricks?
I have had one of those grinders for years and they work great!!
I hope you know that most calipers have a rod that comes out of the bottom that is specifically for measuring depth
Is that a stone or ind. diamond wheel? Surprised you run that dry, but I didn't see a water tap on there. Nice older machine.
Hope you're using some form of lubricants like water or oil to keep the stone clean and cool the steel?
Awesome how-to. What's the next project gonna be??
Who taught you how to use a set of Vernier Calipers.??? for depth settings turn the gauge around, see the pin sticking out of the end...
You're kind of dumb
You can also use the end he was using for depth as well.
Do you know if that machine or one similar can do 18 in blades?
Very good I need one of that right now in Dominica. How much would coust me
Whot make is this sharpening kit im looking for good sharping to sharpening chippers blades
Usually when you have sparks you run the risk of the metal getting too hot you should have some water or sharpening fluid to keep it cool.

how would you determine the height of the knobs? does it depends on the angle the blade needs?

Is this like the Grizzly model sharpener?
Actually, that's the Delta machinery logo.
Молодец Спасибо. очень доходчиво,

I need that tool where can I find it at? What’s it called? Who makes it ? Please contact me back ... ty
Who'se video recording you?
I am having trouble sharpening with this machine , am burning blades , any advice?
adjust for shallow cuts. Make sure the stone isn't plugged up, work slow
Fine Woodworking had an article on how to turn a garbage disposal into a wet grinder that looked something like that.
how fine is the grinding wheel?
120 grit! Verified on Amazon.
@startreking2007 no go to 1:15, he clearly is using both of his hands and the camera is shaking in a manner than someone must me holding it.
Please tell me where to buy similar to this machine im from Philippines.

Lol if you see a reflection on the edge itself then you're WELL beyond dull. That's definition blunt...
Funny.. I saw you use the rod part to measure a step in one of your videos and was going to comment on it. No need to nag about that anymore I see. :)

The way to tell if a blade is sharpened is to feel for the burr not looking at it. Seriously?
