The fact that the camera is anchored to the boat (no pun intended) instead of being held by someone or hanging from something really makes this video look strange. It just looks like everything starts leaning for no reason on a completely stable vessel.
Pretty cool actually, see those wooden bits on the side? They go about 3/4th of the way up so you pick up the plate or bowl to there and then out, pretty ingenious design for a boat proof storage.
In college I took a 1 credit course during spring break that included a trip to Ireland. While there we studied Yeats, Swift, and Bishop Berkeley. During the trip we traveled via boat over to Inishmore for a bike ride. During the boat ride everyone in the group flopped around like they had never stood on 2 legs before. Then there was me, sturdy as could be, just riding the waves with my legs. So many people asked how I was able todo it. I repeated several times that ride - "use your legs like shocks on a car, it's all in the knees". Despite my advice, they all stood straight legged and continued to bounce off each other. Fun trip.
Don't be cooking a chicken during this. Crew mate my Dad was working with done this. Caught a kitchen fire on the floor cause the grease went out the oven. Upon hearing this story, me and my brother were at this guy's house, he was drunk and said he was gonna cook for us. Me and my brother wanted to watch him cook in thinking he may catch his own kitchen on fire. He delivered. Stove caught on fire. Flames high. He's trying to battle the flames with a lid. It was hilarious. So when you're in this type of situation. Don't be cooking a chicken.
I deckhanded on a tugboat with a galley a little larger than that. Not by much. That tug was only 151'. Which is not small.. but 12-16ft waves will def put your turds in your trousers
I can 100% relate. My brother and I worked on supply vessels for Lytal Marine based out of Lockport Louisiana in the 70s. Two weeks on and one week off. Rough seas makes everything rough but being a deckhand/engineer was a great experience right out of high school. 🌊🤙🏼🎣
I get seasick, so just looking at it made me nauseous. I have the utmost respect for all of you who live on the ship. I hope you take care of yourselves and do your best.
Pro tip: watch this on your phone and tilt it so its like he's moving according to your phone. Not only does is give you insight into the sheer tilt he's standing on, its really funny
Has no one developed special kitchenware for sea vessels? Maybe use steel prep tables bolted to the floor, and all bowls/plates/utensils each have small magnets to keep them on the table.
I was on a small scalloper when a mini rogue wave hit. Most free standing stuff is sitting in an inch deep hole in the counters but that wave made everything fly right out. A coffee maker jumped and flew at me and shattered. Thank goodness it was old coffee 'cause I got doused in it! Cleaning up broken glass isn't fun though with everything sliding everywhere
"honey, food ready in 5 minutes." *5 minutes later* *wave comes and everything falls down* "you could just said it, that you don't like my cooking skill."
I was a cook on a ship that routinely made her way up to the Bering sea. I was in charge of the o-mess cooking for the officers and captain. One day we were in especially bad weather and the captain came in for breakfast and i swear just to mess with me he asked for a loaded egg white omelet with NO OIL.... If he wasn't the captain i would have told him he could take that request and shove it.

Time to invest in those bowls with suction cups in the foot and a semi-rolled broke, to keep the dishes securely on the counter and the food the bowl! :)
The fact that the camera is anchored to the boat (no pun intended) instead of being held by someone or hanging from something really makes this video look strange. It just looks like everything starts leaning for no reason on a completely stable vessel.
I'm thinking the cam is attached to some sort of tripod that has suction so it can stay on whatever surface it's on.

About as productive as cooking in a boat like that
Not just the videos the comments too 😂😂
There should be magnetic clamp stations invented for kitchen ware, I can just imagine a knife flying around in room during storm.
There are magnetic knife racks
Nah, the random flying knives are half the fun of cooking when at sea in a storm 👌
Magnetic knife racks are great until you grab one and a different one falls. Severed a nerve on my hand that way.

To bad good jobs like that nowadays all want you to have a physics degree and 3 masters degrees and 20 years experience, just to make 25$/hour.
Good thing about this is that when the bowl fell it did not hit the floor so you dont haveto wash it
the ending sold it for me. definitely a “watch til the end” type video
The onion is me clinging on to my barely held together life
When you cookin and the bowl falls sideways 😳
It's quite entertaining to tilt your phone and keep him stabilized as the boat moves, makes it seem as though we're messing with him 😆

I just hate it when I wake up in the morning sober but the ship is still drunk.
Brings to mind the line in the song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald: :the old cook came on board sayin' 'fellas, it's too rough to feed ya'".
When you still drunk in the morning after a dench party trying to prepare a breakfast.
Now i know why crews respect their cheff so much lol
I like to imagine that this dude is the one tilting and not the vessel, and he's just throwing things around
The best way to cook while dancing at the same time.
