- As we mark the successful closure of the #KOBCIYE project, generously funded by the #EU and supported by #WFP, #SDC extends heartfelt gratitude to all partners and donors who made this journey possible. Special appreciation goes to the #Puntland Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MOAI) for their invaluable technical support throughout the project implementation.
Through concerted efforts across four sites - #Cuun, #Laacdheere, #Rabable, and #Belley - #SDC, in collaboration with WFP, has diligently executed the Kobciye Project in Puntland, specifically targeting the #Nugal region. This initiative, viewed through the Food Systems lens, aimed to enhance food security and nutrition among smallholder farmers, strengthening resilience against recurring shocks. Priority was given to internally displaced persons, women, and youth, with a focus on strengthening production capacity, improving household nutrition, enhancing commercialization, and diversifying livelihoods for enhanced income security.
Beneficiaries underwent a series of technical trainings encompassing farm technology utilization, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), financial and digital literacy, Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) management, cooperative governance, and market linkages. Additionally, behavioral change communication campaigns were conducted to encourage a transition from traditional pastoralism to resilient agricultural practices. Beneficiaries were equipped with quality seeds, pesticides, and essential farm technologies such as tractors, greenhouses, solar panels, and drip irrigation systems, complemented by comprehensive installation and maintenance training.
In recognition of their unwavering commitment, beneficiaries were provided with digital mobile phones, empowering them to seamlessly connect with local markets, track revenue, capture production data, and communicate effectively with agronomy experts. This token of appreciation underscores the collective dedication to the project's success and the enduring impact it will have on the communities involved. #KOBCIYEProject #FoodSecurity #Nutrition #ResilienceBuilding #SDCInitiative #gratitudeattitude
