Like most people, I first "got into" Sonic Youth via their harder edged sound-for me the point of intro was "Sugar Kane" in 1990-1. These days I enjoy this more melodic "softer" sound as well...great stuff.
@Saintnick90 Sonic youth was Noise Rock, but they were also Indie and Post Punk so they have some songs that are just noise and others that were honest to got classics, with great lyrical sense!
i love sonic youth. like most people i became a fan when i first heard "daydream nation". but i think this song sounds like dinosaur jr. somewhat. does anyone else think so or is it just me?
For anyone else this would sound closer to norm however tracking this beside say... Where the red fern graows, it's a huge evolution, still rockin and artistic but very different and much more age appropriate for them, albeit age isn't a case in any way shape or form for SY... they'll be young and rockin and artistic and inspirational, and groundbreaking until they go in the ground.
@ralasinchains Yeah, but I hate it when people assume that makes up all of their catalog. If they stuck strictly to noise rock, they never would have made it above ground.
kids were happy you have the good sense to like music like this that is not shit, but don't expect a attaboy over it...you know who deserves a attaboy for this song? Sonic fuckin' Youth....
I see, But what are "bastard blues" exactly? The first track from "...trash and no star"? Disgrunted parias from the inception of the Blues revolution? Javanese Hipsters? The Cure? Sleep is overated. People also have the power awake.
I love all these pretentious, hipster kids on youtube denouncing their generation's music and telling us how old they are and how much they wish they were born in another era in hopes of becoming one of the in-crowd. Trying so hard to be cool is actually very uncool. Unfortunately these kids keep getting people to support their tired comments. Wise up.
Love this band & this is one of our favorite songs! Hope to meet you guys back in Pine Apple one day.
Thank you Sonic youth for this awsome music.
A beautiful and very personal song from one of the most influential bands of the past 30 years.
Great album. Daydream Nation was my first foray into Sonic Youth, but this album is also fantastic. Especially to just chill to.
Ahhhhhhh, man. Sonic Youth is always there for you, aren't they?

The difference lies in what you're focused on.
That t-shirt is really funny. I never saw the Beck resemblance, maybe because I know that Thurston is really tall. But it is definitely there.

Awsome Awsome Awsome!!!
Very nice.
Not that "Sugar Kane" was in any way shape or form their most experimental, of course!
I just love the wry grin at 0:46, btw...
If I hear one more person say that Sonic Youth is just noise, I'm going to play this song and watch them eat their words.
also my favourite !
...thus, the empty page.
A lot to fill but not much to draw from.

For now, my only guess is you love questions as much as you hate answers.

@ralasinchains Yeah, but I hate it when people assume that makes up all of their catalog. If they stuck strictly to noise rock, they never would have made it above ground.
besides nofx and iron maiden, sonic youth is the best band's name ever
kids were happy you have the good sense to like music like this that is not shit, but don't expect a attaboy over it...you know who deserves a attaboy for this song? Sonic fuckin' Youth....
...hm yes, but why is Beck wearing a shirt saying "I AM NOT BECK"?
@michaeleddie1 I like them too, but My Bloody Valentine is the best of the shoegaze bands, in my opinion.
yeah same
@captaindaring The only people this band's music ever has and ever will make cool are the members of Sonic Youth themselves.
@Fernando805WM congratulations kid
how about a simple "this song is freakin' awesome" comment?
Show me another band that balances noise, discordance and harmony better than Sonic Youth and I will become their biggest fan.
