      @@jonathanfinger712 yes, but when it stars to grind the glove you've got the time to remove your hand. I always use thick leather gloves when I use an angle grinder and dispite all my care sometimes they got bite by the grinder (especially after several hours of work). @hey guys This is a trash method to make money. I'm sure some shade tree hobbyist with 110v Hobart using innershield throwing bird crap at a rusty exhaust on a $200 Ford Ranger might do this. Or some hippy making yard art out of junk. A reducer is $4. The cut off wheel is $5, plus the time to do all the measuring, cutting and fitting. Anyone doing this lost money. Just buy the right parts.

    I could never remember all that folding... lol heres how I'd simply do it:
    Take bigger diameter and retract the smaller diameter. Split the difference in however many sides you want (3 for a square, 5 for a hexagon, 7 for a octagon etc.)
    The result is the width of each triangle cutout, all you have to do is space them out evenly... how far you cut your triangle into the end of the pipe determines how steep/shallow a transition you will get...

      You can speak at least TWO languages.
      Most 'native' English speakers - usually those who deride people whose FIRST language is not English - struggle to even speak English correctly.
      No hay razón para disculparse por su inglés.

      A piece of string works... or just cut your strip over length, then do the "wrap and lap" he did for the smaller tube. As to width, just double the dimension you want for your conic transition, which can be anything from half the difference in diameters (a square flange transition),to the full length of the larger diameter (a very gradual conic transition) tube. The technique works at both extremes, or anywhere in between. The only difference is length and angle of your waste "dart" cut drops

The cool thing about the way he did it is that it’s easy to make the marks around the pipe without any extra figuring, measuring, etc. By doing this the marks are automatically equally spaced around the pipe without trying to bend a tape measure around the pipe. And he also sets the location of the tip of the triangle to cut out at the same time.

    To many "Pros" commenting that this is bad must be bad welders. Straight pipe is cheap fitting and expanders aren't. Your father or grand father would probably love this and tell you it's how we did things back in the day. Way more welds then that in a most custom exhaust hundreds in a pie cut stainless. Save money do it yourself and have confidence in your welds.

    • @AKStovall

      or maybe they subscribe to the addage of work smarter, not harder. if you're doing this for a project for yourself, sure, do this to show it off... But if you're on site and working on a project for someone else, buy the collars and save that time... you'll get the money back in materials costs from the client, and save what looks to be a ton of time.
      It really has nothing to do with being a good or bad welder, quit assuming anyone who would rather jsut do the job and move on is a bad welder. (Also, he never actually welds anything in this video, so...) True pros use the proper gear, and use it correctly. probably took this chap over an hour of actual work on this single fitting, and it's still not welded... buy the collar, save 45 minutes, weld twice, move on. Less chance for leaks.

      @@AKStovall Depends on what you're working on, you can't always get a collar for certain sizes, or get one made there and then. In which case this is how it's always been done, it's a very old method that I'm glad to see still has a place in fabrication.

      Yeah... This Is DIY... So It Mean This Things Is Suitable For A People That Are Not Affordable To Spend A Lots Of Money On Somethings... Same As Me... So This Type Of People Ofcourse Does Not Have Much Money To Spend For A MIG Type Welder... Same With Me, Maybe They Will Have A Cheap Type Welder, Arc Type/Rod Type... It Is Really Hard To Weld Thin Plate Using Rod... If They Got A Money To Buy MiG Welder, Im Sure It Is Better They Buy A Joiner/Socket To Connect Those Pipes Than Doing This Thing....

      @Dragonkingzx 2 года назад

      @@DS-mm6fh Ofcourse We Can Braze It... It Is Much Easier... But As I Mention Before, We Need To Find That Tool For Brazing... So It Will Cost Us More Than We Buying Socket/Joiner... As DIY Concept, We Save Our Money By Using Our Ready Tools And By Do-It Ourself... Not Much People Having Brazing Tool... For Me, Yes I Have It Because Im Doing Metal Works... But For Other People, I Think A Lots Of Them Does Not Have Brazing Tools Compare To Rod Welding Tools... For The People That Already Have MiG/TiG Or Brazing Tools, Ofcourse They Can Used It... It Is Easier And Practical...

    Cool trick in a prince, but I bet a pipe fitting costs less than the time to do it
