None of that software is inherently bloated or would really use more resources than standard, but yeah, definitely not anymore lightweight than standard Windows. Classic Shell/Open-Shell is probably even better performing, but that is somewhat of an outlier in that group of programs.

@legosavantfun sounds like someone doesn't know how windows works. Go back to android.
Microsoft uses hundreds of hidden, unlisted processes that take hours to track down and stop.
For example, there isn't a "track usage" app anywhere on the system, but you can bet your butt your usage is being tracked.

I heard that the reason Microsoft did not officially make a "Windows 9" was to "Avoid Confusion with Windows 9x (win 95/98)" .
So explain confusion of Windows 1.0(first ever Windows) and Windows 10
@KaigamerTV That would also kill support for ME, since isn't "Windows 9*". Literally no program reads the brand name, rather they read the version number (4.0/4.1/4.9).
This is the same company who named their console the Xbox One though, lol.
@@ephemeralViolette Some programs do read the brand name. The Java installer did this at the time of Windows 10 release for example, not sure it is still the case today, but it definitely was some time ago.

"Seven ate nine"
WHAT
NO
WHY WOULD THEY EVER
The actual reason is saner. Some code meant to run on multiple versions of windows would run a check that looks a bit like the following:
`"Windows 9" in system.os.version`
to determine if the computer was running either win95 or win98 (very similar platforms.) It would then execute legacy code based on that assumption. Rolling a release that the OS refers to as "Windows 9" would cause lots of third-party code to break and a publicity scandal thingymajig would ensue.
But 7 ate 9......

Am i missing something?
About 9:31 (the lenth of the video)
That threw me, too. But I'm a Linux guy anyway.
I'm considering a dual-boot, and it can't be OSX (I think).
@@paulstubbs7678 the intro implies we're going to see a build that replicates the idea of the real windows 9, namely the added security of 10 minus all the bullshit.
I think it's fair enough to expect that the solution would be a version of 8 with the desired features added rather than a version of 10 with cosmetic bloatware to make it look like 8.
As much as many of us prefer the aesthetics of 7, the main reason people dislike 10 is the unnecessary additions that aren't optional. 10 is also more demanding on hardware than 7, and since 7's support was recently discontinued; an improved/streamlined windows 8 would really suit a lot of users.
Windows 8 and 10 are clearly designed for a tablet with PC users being an afterthought, so I was a little disappointed to discover the "solution" is just 3rd party windows 10 hacks, most of which fans of 7 have already implemented or decided weren't worth while.

Win ME was good :p
Windows ME = Windows 98 + a couple of new features such as MPEG video playback.
Windows 98 = Windows 95 with a few adjustments and new features.
Windows 95 = MSDOS + Graphical Shell(graphical user interface)
Windows 1 = it wasn't a freaking OS, this thing was actually a Graphical Shell for MSDOS.
Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 = Highly Modified versions of Windows NT.
Windows NT = highly modified VMS system from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), originally designed for VAX hardware however it was bought and reformulated by Microsoft to work with Intel's x86 architecture. Windows NT also introduced the graphical user interface that most people know as the "Windows 95 interface". Windows NT is definitely Microsoft's most important OS ever made. It is the basis of every modern version of Windows.

DrewLSsix this effect is achieved by switching off useless background services rather than new UI. And modifying system files responsible for UI is not always a good idea. God knows what third side developer have put in these files.
clickbait title? yes we can
the benchmarking was boring, the "how to" for a windows 7 skin pretty nice
thumbs up from me...but the title sucks.
Clemens s. How's it clickbait if you stayed to watch the video?
It lets people assume there is something like windows 9 (e.g. a kind of beta or so which never get public or something like that), but this has nothing to do with an inofficial Windows 9 or so...the video was in two parts: the win7 skin tutorial (which was nice) and the comparison between win7, win8 embedded, win 10 and win10 with some tweaks. But calling that version Windows 9...is nonsense and in my opinion misleading (and it will attract a lot of viewers). And if they call it like that in the video ok...but this shouldn't be in the title because it says nothing about the real content of the video. I understand LMG does this, viewers = ads clicked = money, and LMG is a company which has to make money to pay all the employees and to grow...but I just don't like the style of it and I think they don't need this, their content should shine not (only) their titles, and titles should give more then an indication of what the content of the video is. I mean I can give an example: what if each CSF video would have the title "Something with Dennis #nr". Would score well...but the title doesn't say a lot.
Are you seriously trying to tell me you have never watched a clickbait video from start to finish?
Clemens s. but they did tell you about the embedded windows... so it wasn't complete clickbait
Travis Dark-Blade that's why I wrote "clickbait title", the video was ok
This video is based on Windows 9. 10 is after 9. This video is 30 seconds short of 10 minutes.

Windows 10 was great, it forced me to migrate fully into Linux. And I have never been so happy with my OS.
Totally agreed. Windows 10 corrupted about half of my 1TB hard drive and killed my Fedora partition, along with all my college assignments, games, save games and work-related stuff. Then, for some reason, it also killed itself and wouldn't boot :D After that, my HD has been 100% linux (100% of what was left lol) and I made an altar dedicated to place a curse on Bill Gates everyday until he gives me my 500 GB back

Rafael I find it funny when people claim a certain OS or app corrupted their files or burned their pc to ashes. The funny thing is, their issues are isolated and non repeatable
@@Joker285631 my hdd never got corrupted by win 10. you are special.
@@Joker285631 liar
@@josesolisrosales
You absolutely sure?
Do you know what causes most Hard drive corruptions? Most of the time it's errors during read/write operations (I know other stuff could also do that, such as decomposing magnetic data, but I'm gonna ignore it and focus on the case that happens most of the time), and since the half that was corrupted belonged to windows partition, I'm pretty sure some error happened during the windows 10 boot. As for how the Fedora partition got corrupted, I have no idea. Perhaps during the shrinking of the windows partition made some rogue memory pointers on same Windows file that pointed to the fedora sectors, but I did't look that deep into it, so I'm not making any claims.
All hard drive sectors have what we call ECCs, Address Marks and Servos. Since I cannot access any data in or out of the data sectors, either the servos or the AMs must be corrupted. I know Linux and Windows have built-in tools for bad sector recovery, and I did a lot of research on how they work, but these are not magical and cannot recover data when the servos or AMs themselves are corrupted, only when the ECC returns an error during validation testing. If you still dont believe me, search for how a hard drive validates if a memory sector if valid.
If you think my issue is non-repeatable, I agree with you. I'm not an idiot, I know that an OS corrupting its whole partition and then killing another is rare, but it still happened to me. Anyway, I hope no one else has to experience this, because its a pain in the ass to make OSs jump corrupted sectors and point to valid memory locations during partitioning and creating gpt tables.
At the end of the day, win 10 still is the sole suspect for messing up with my hard drive, and it's gonna take some hard evidence to change my mind.
The biggest problem here is the extra programs to get the look and feel of Windows 7, which in my experience, have a tendency to bog down the system.
I'd like to see what happens when you don't go for the Aero theme and everything, and just go for the performance enhancing & telemetry removal options.

After watching this video and several hours of careful consideration, I've decided to stick with Linux.
lulz linuxs no matter how much the people who use it try to hype it up to me its nothing but a glorified dos simulator to me.
Eh? When was the last time you tried Linux? I haven't had to use the terminal in years. Everything is GUI driven now.
Actually, 25% of the entire Steam library has been ported to Linux so far, totaling 3000+ games. For most people this equates to 35 to 50% of library being Linux compatible. You can easily and quickly check how many of your games are compatible by logging into SteamDB.
steamdb.info/linux/
Also, there is also WINE or a WIndows VM with GPU passthrough that can play the rest of your games that haven't been ported yet. Overwatch runs pretty well in Wine, for instance.
GPU passthrough requires a CPU which supports passthrough, a spare GPU (+required power, PCI slot and cooling capacity), spare RAM for the VM, and a spare litre or two of coffee while you do all the setup.
While I use Linux daily, I don't have the money nor willpower to do that.
Whilst it does require compatible parts, if one plans a new build with GPU passthrough in mind, this isn't a big issue. Also the the integrated graphics on Intel CPU's and upcoming Ryzen APU's can take the place of a second GPU if you don't need the horsepower in Linux, leaving a single powerful GPU for gaming in the Windows VM.
Setup can be daunting, but it's something that only needs to be once, and you can always get help at the r/VFIO subreddit on reddit.
Also, the folks over at Fedora are actively working on making the process as seamless and automated as possible, in the hopes that one day setting up a VM with GPU Passthrough will be as simple as a few clicks on a GUI menu.

A big thing is that Win7 doesn't have support for a lot of newer processors (Think Kaby Lake and Sky Lake), and so the drivers have to be virtualised in order to work with the newer hardware, creating a marginal performance hit for win7 machines running these new components.
Christian Drost Skylake supports windows 7

thats why 9 was skipped
Oscar Velazquez Exactly. The generic term for Windows 8 and 8.1 is (semi-officially) "Windows 8x", so imagine the generic term for Windows 9, 9.1, 9.2, and so on.
Oscar Velazquez thank you
I'm still adamant there was a Win9 in the works, and they'd already made release date promises to shareholders, so when things went pear shaped with Windows 9, they figured it was easier to push out 10, albeit unfinished, to satisfy that deadline. Explains why there was no 9 and explains why 10 feels so unfinished with its redundant control panel menus and shit (some options menus, there's 3 different versions of; an old vista-style one, win10 and some 10-advanced menu with many of the same options listed in each).
I've actually used windows 9 a really long time ago. It was actually superior in terms of performance and stability. I didn't use it a lot as it wasn't official but I surely would want to try it once again.
Its an OS that you pay for. As such it should have the very best interests of the clients (not just business clients) at heart. In as far as performance, privacy and everything else is involved. If it was free... Then no problem.
I think that is the bottom line. What MS has done is to leave everybody with a slightly bitter taste in their mouths that they are possibly being taken advantage of.
It should be as lean as possible out the box, with options to enable services and other background processes only when needed. Transparently - As in... Messages telling the user that using functionality X will enable service Y and what the effects will be - With the option to enable said service Y once to try the functionality out, or keep it running permanently.
Most PC users will not give a crap, or know what the hell the whole debate is about. A significant portion of users might care, but not know enough to help themselves. There's still a lot of people who do care, and do know - And this conversation will not disappear until MS returns to a client-centric business model.
And for God's sake. How long before we get a task manager which shows Windows OS processes, and third party process on separate tabs? Its just so damned obvious.
What's obvious, is that Microsoft never was a company that cared about it's customers. It's always been their goal to make as much money as they can, and screw everyone else along the way. #1. buy already made OS. #2. Sell usage to giant IBM. #3. See good GUI, go after that. #4. Notice other developer has better software, so do best to sabotage them (DOS isn't done until Lotus won't run, change windows so OS/2 won't run newer windows programs, etc..). Repeat. Get it? They're not interested in doing right by the customers. They'd rather make us eat their ****. Window's rot and bugs that are still in Windows since the beginning haven't been fixed, because they simply don't give a crap. Computer slowing down? Their solution: Buy a new computer & of course, another version of windows! M$ wins again.
I'd switch to Linux in a heartbeat if I could. For now i'm sticking to Windows 7 since it has a better layout and has overall better compatibility. The added tweaks for Win10 does interest me, but I'm pretty sketched about what Microsoft has implemented in 10. Is it actually worth it with the tweaks? The only thing I'd switch for is DirectX 12.
+Mr Vuck Fiacom And the DirectX 12 feature is something articially made up to only work in Windows 10 by Microsoft. So they're basically forcing you into a new generation without any real advantages. But to be honest, I think that's the way to survive in our economical system, unfortunately. If you don't have any new products, you need to try to force users to rebuy the crap. The only thing which makes Microsoft a really bad company is the spy-bloatware and the little to no improvement advancement or whatsoever when switching to a new generation.
Would be interested to see how games and applications compare on Windows, Linux and MacOS.
Gaming in Linux is a bit iffy for now, but even that's better than what it has been in the past. Here recently, with the advent of SteamOS (which is a Linux distribution), we have seen the porting of some major game engines to Linux (like Unreal Engine 4 and CryEngine 5), and with more going to the platform as well.
Still, there is a long road ahead. One of the biggest problems is that it's hit and miss as to whether you will find hardware support in Linux for graphics cards (officially, that is), as the big boys (Nvidia and AMD) tend not to view Linux drivers and support worth the investment. But again, they're slowly changing their tune thanks in no small part to Valve and their SteamOS. And then there are the various APIs that need to be accounted for as well (OpenGL, Direct3D, or Vulkan).
Would actually enjoy an in depth intro to linux. Don't know much about it here, but would like to learn
You'd have better luck with Wendell over at Level1Techs. I dont think anyone at LTT uses Linux daily.
they will never do something with linux they already said that.
Ethan Crawford - If you do not use/require any "Windows specific" software, Linux is a great alternative. Love Win7? Then Linux Mint Cinnamon is your best choice. Runs really fast on old hardware and even faster on newer hardware. Make a bootable flash drive and test drive without installation (runs slower). You can also dual boot - I do on my DT machine and only LM on my brand new Dell Laptop i7. Two years and not even a screen flicker. Check out Joe Collins on YT for the best intro vids. No McAfee/Norton ever required again. LM 18.2 Cinnamon is flawless! Only downside is complete privacy and security. Check out NoScript for Firefox - nobody outside will ever touch your machine. Can hardly wait to see what the "Boo-Birds" and MS trolls say. lol

Just get BlackArch, best OS out there.
Irony being that these same people complaining about Windows 10 allegedly violating their privacy, are using Chrome and has various Google, RUclips, and Facebook accounts. Besides that, if you're on the internet, you don't really have much in terms of privacy. Doesn't really matter how much effort you put into hiding from the world, all of the data you consume has to come from somewhere e.g. your ISP.
I didn't revert back to WIndows 7 because I like how 7 looks. I actually like the Windows 10 layout better, and it runs faster when it's working. But I've tried many times now and haven't once been able to get 10 to run without problems on any machine.
Not to mention Microsoft invading my privacy regardless of settings, changing my privacy settings back with every update, not allowing me to remove certain programs and processes that slow down my system, putting ads in the start menu, using my bandwidth to update other computers, forcing me to update at the worst possible times and breaking my computer if I manage to not update. I have a laptop that I only use maybe once every couple weeks, and every time I turn it on it works fine for about a minute until it realizes it's behind on updates and then it disables all networks until I update it. Sometimes the whole task bar stops working.
Ok, I'm confused. Most of the things you listed can be fixed in the settings (I don't have any start menu ads, It doesn't update untill I say so, and the rest can be fixed to)
My settings also stay the same after updates, except for language (bilingual first world problem)
And I also don't use my desktop very frequently, so it's reaaaly back on updates. But it works perfectly fine and doesn't force me to update in any way.
The things you're talking about doesn't seem like a windows issue, unless you played with something you shouldn't have? But in vanilla win10, I haven't noticed any of those things you mentioned. (On 2 decent desktops, 1 decent notebook, 1 weaksauce notebook and 1 ultra trash desktop)
Unsheated Windows 10 is a blue berry, not vanilla.
Lawrence Lentini for some reason none of the issues you have said really affect me :/ then again, I have it on pretty much every day. And the tracking, well, no way around sadly
You're not the only one I've heard say that windows works fine for them. If you have a laptop that came pre-installed with vanilla Windows 10 and you don't do anything intense with it that's probably your best bet for it working well for you. I on the other hand am an engineering student and a power user with an hp laptop that was updated to 10 and a homebuilt desktop. All my engineering friends have trouble with Windows 10, two of them have had their laptop bricked by bad updates. I switched to Windows 7 on my desktop and I've had very few problems since then with the same kind of heavy use.
Just go to start -> services.msc -> Windows Update -> properties -> disabled.

Which is indeed one of the reasons that Microsoft didn't release Windows 9. The German speaking world has quite a few Windows licences, and they just didn't want the internet to be all like 'ooh, that's soo funny'. There can't be Windows 9 because software will mis-identify the OS as Windows 95 or 98. (Great forethought Microsoft!)
You're holding Microsoft responsible for 3rd party programs checking to see if the OS name has the number 9 in it?
@@silvergreylion he's thanking microsoft for foreseeing this and naming it windows 10 instead of 9
Isn't that actually identified through the kernel version number instead of just the name of the installed os?

windows xp was just windows 2000+, and windows 2000 was NT 5.0. XP was NT 5.1. vista was NT 6 and only by windows 10 did they jump to NT 10.X. it doesn't parse any string that starts with "windows" and cut it off when it reaches the "9". "NT" stands for "new technologies". this was explained as i was getting microsoft certification to support windows 98/ME in 2001.
