Nothing quite like watching the first episode of a playthrough already knowing it's going to go on my rotation of comfort watches. This was a blast and I'm excited for the next one!
I believe the word you’re looking for about the art style is dithering. When your use if color is limited (ie none), you can simulate more colors (shades of gray) by intermixing the colors you do have (black and white) in those pointillism patterns.
0:50 LMAO ITS ALL VIDEO GAME SPOILER STUFF AND THEN 'adin ross (Forever)' 😭 very wise ^^' i just finished Lukael's playthrough i love this game so much good luck with it !!
Based on your Outer Wilds playthrough, you're gonna love this! And I'm gonna love watching it. Your writing degree definitely makes your commentary unique.
THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF THE BEST TIMELINE! I am so so so excited to watch you play this!!!! Oh man! This is totally worth not having BG3 episodes for the weekend I am so frikkin happy omg OMG I love that I'm in the comment recommendations twice, I didn't even realise I'd rec'd it twice I just love it so much I guess I couldn't help myself XD
Ohhh buddy I'm excited about this one. Been wanting to know the story behind this game for awhile and I just don't trust anyone else to do it like you would. Thanks, as always, for letting me enjoy games I know I'd absolutely hate playing 😂😂
I'm late because I haven't been online for a few days to check things but let me tell you I GASPED when I saw this thumbnail. Obra Dinn is one of my favorite games of all time and I always thought you would have an absolute blast with it. Haven't even pressed play yet but I am SO EXCITED FOR THIS.
Yes! Obra Dinn! Probably in my top 5 favorite games ever. I hope you enjoy it. The word you're looking for instead of pointilism us "dithering." I don't know if you've ever played Ace Attorney but when you were talking about how the music cues in, it made me think of that game. Ace Attorney has very limited animation, especially in the early games, but the way the music cues in at specific times makes the game feel very dynamic. It's impressive what well-cued music can add to a scene!
I'm looking forward to this a lot. This ia a kind of game where even if you play it a second or third time you still might find details or clues which you missed before. I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll miss, but also what I've missed.
I had a ton of fun playing this game this weekend! Thank you for recommending I play it myself first before watching you. I'm excited to see how you tackle this! It's definitely a perfect game for your channel.
Your Outer Wilds play through is my favorite playthrough of my favorite game (and thing generally) in existence. I also loved this game when I played it so I’m so glad to see you playing it
hi, people of the internet. dont wanna bother Ryan since he gets these questions all the time, but.. does anybody know if he ever commented on whether these games will appear on the channel: Case of the golden idol (a logical continuation of Obra Dinn) To the moon (amazing game right up his alley) Sunless sea (game with amazing writing - might be great to do daily - would fill at least a year =D) Vanishing of Ethan Carter - great game he might enjoy too
Recently found the channel, and remember it being mentioned on a past series I caught up on! Super stoked to be around for it happening, I think it's super up your alley!
Its so interesting seeing someone really dig deep on the book alone but then really try to dig deep on mechanics before the 1st memory is even done with
Yes! I’ve been hoping this day would come!! I LOVED playing this game… it’s definitely not easy (I’ve seen players struggle even more than Outer Wilds lol) but if you give it your full attention and a good bit of patience, you can definitely do it!! Really looking forward to this series!
YO LET'S GO!! Just finished watching your Outer Wilds playthrough (just found you a few weeks ago), and was hoping you'd get to this. This game is an absolute gem too
- Person getting killed calls out "Captain!" in the dialogue - Killer is in the Captains Quarter - "We have Captain, I'M ALMOST SURE Never change Ryan, lol
I can't believe it, I started playing this game a few days ago. I'm very interested, if your way figuring things out will be similar or completely diffrent to mine.
A cool thing about this game's unique visual style is that it's meant to replicate the look of old black and white Macintosh computers from the 80's. Thats why in the games settings next to Monitor it was set to Macintosh because that's the game's default setting. Its got a few other settings, like I think there's an IBM one, if I recall correctly. The game is simply meant to evoke the look of computer graphics in the 80's. I was born in 1989, and the very first computer I ever saw was an old black & white Mac. I remember my aunt still had that computer for a while, and it was on that that I played one of the first games I ever played which was this weird little exploration game called Spelunx. When I first saw this game, it really dug up some old memories of playing that game. The shading and the way the pixels look is spot on to the look of those monitors. Speaking of Spelunx, that game was made by the guys who would later go on to make Myst, which coincidentally enough is another game I've been hoping for you to play. I have often felt that that is another game that would be right up your alley. Its sort of the grandfather of games like this and Outer Wilds where you have to explore and are expected to piece together information on your own for solving puzzles and piecing together the story
Ooooh, both Valheim and Obra Dinn going on? I guess I'll be spending a lot of time on this channel, and I don't mind a bit! Me and hubby got gifted this game one yuletide past, and it took us a long time to get to playing it, but when we did I was obsessed. It was a great game to puzzle out together.
Aaaaah! Yes! I knew about as much as you did when I played this game earlier this year and had a wonderful experience, and I'm sure you will. And now I have a reason to get up at a reasonable time to catch your videos just as they come out, haha! I'm not sure it's the term you were looking for, but the pixel art technique used to simulate gradients with a limited palette is called dithering. Obra Dinn is using it for aesthetics, as a call back to the colors of old monochromatic computer displays, but some modern 3D games actually rely on a similar technique to simulate transparency without an alpha channel. Mario Odyssey and Tears of the Kingdom do that if I recall correctly.
No freaking way. The timing of this upload was ridiculous, I was wanting to start this game last week but couldn't warrant the free time at the moment. To think I can now watch it through the eyes of my favourite streamer is so great! Thanks Ryan
hahaha it's a relic of a bygone era--back in like 2020 when I started making videos on this channel, it was just a turn of phrase my wife and I would say a lot--add "me daddy" to the end of something to see what happened. It probably shouldn't have stuck around as long as it did but🤷♂️
This game was amazing. I don’t think there will ever be anything like it again. I wish I could play it for the first time again. It was a unexpected surprise
May I recommend a game called Okami? It has a beautiful japanese style game that is unique :)) I don't think it's very famous but it's very remarkable I was watching your BOTW playthrough and I loved it, will be binging your content for a while hahaha
Love how everyone thinks they're paying attention until they realise how much attention they actually need to pay for this game lol I wonder when the penny drops, going to binge this 😆
Okay I finally had time to watch. I AM SO HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This and Disco Elysium are the top two games that I have been wanting to see your take on, and I am so so so excited you are finally getting to experience this one!!! This video was a great start and I can't wait to watch more! Godspeed to all the mods. o7 If spoilers do become an issue, I recommend recording way ahead or even just recording the whole game ASAP.
Just found the channel, subbed. I would love to hear you elaborate on your initial thoughts about chapter 8. Edit: Take care of your mental health while playing this game. As you probably know by now, you will be intently scrutinizing gory images.
Nothing quite like watching the first episode of a playthrough already knowing it's going to go on my rotation of comfort watches. This was a blast and I'm excited for the next one!
😭💙 i hope i can do you proud
There is a Falmouth MA, but like 90% of our town names in MA are copied from British ones which is why they are so weird to pronounce
thank god I wasn't 100% wrong
I believe the word you’re looking for about the art style is dithering. When your use if color is limited (ie none), you can simulate more colors (shades of gray) by intermixing the colors you do have (black and white) in those pointillism patterns.
The fact that you weren’t writing anything down at first broke my heart TT
I'd say its doable without outside notes, it just makes you scroll the the book a lot more. When I first tried the game I also didn't take any notes
0:50 LMAO ITS ALL VIDEO GAME SPOILER STUFF AND THEN 'adin ross (Forever)' 😭 very wise ^^'
i just finished Lukael's playthrough i love this game so much good luck with it !!
So excited for this, just starting now. Laughed out loud when the words Falmouth, England appeared as if it heard you! Enjoy! :D
the game really said "WRONG" right away😂
Outer Wilds - Tunic - Obra Dinn
YES. I am here for it.
1:13 - Hey! That's me! I'm famous! HI MOM!
Based on your Outer Wilds playthrough, you're gonna love this! And I'm gonna love watching it. Your writing degree definitely makes your commentary unique.
I've been waiting for this! You're gonna love this one, Ryan.
Return of the Obra Dinn is a brilliant game! I hope you enjoy / enjoyed it
THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF THE BEST TIMELINE! I am so so so excited to watch you play this!!!! Oh man! This is totally worth not having BG3 episodes for the weekend I am so frikkin happy omg

Yes been waiting for this one for so long!!
Omg, YASS! I was JUUST watching new lets-players play this game. I'm so glad you're playing this. Looking forwards to it!
No Obra Dinn, no TOTK, no TOTK, no TOTK, no TOTK, and no Adin Ross. A perfectly curated feed. 💙💙💙
Ohhh buddy I'm excited about this one. Been wanting to know the story behind this game for awhile and I just don't trust anyone else to do it like you would. Thanks, as always, for letting me enjoy games I know I'd absolutely hate playing 😂😂

I've never seen someone be so thorough with this game. It's absolutely fantastic.
Ayyy, so excited for this
You make me so happy with this Ryan. I've been wanting to replay it and now I dont have to
Yay! Perfect game for you. Looking forward to your playthrough. This is soooo unique...
Yes! Obra Dinn! Probably in my top 5 favorite games ever. I hope you enjoy it.

Since Outer Wilds comments convinced you to try this game, I'm gonna rec another which I think you would enjoy based on that: Play Her Story!
ahh i’m so excited you’re finally playing this! obra dinn is one of the most memorable games i’ve ever played; reminds me of outer wilds in that way
Oh, and the shading technique you refer to as pointillism is called dithering ;)
Recently found the channel, and remember it being mentioned on a past series I caught up on! Super stoked to be around for it happening, I think it's super up your alley!
YESSS THIS GAME IS AWESOME! The music is my favorite part can’t wait to watch!
Really looking forward to this, it'll be amazing!
The timing! I just finished playing this game a couple days ago, excited to see what you think of it❤️
let's go nora
Lmao got adin ross muted, my goat 💪

Muting mentions of Adin Ross is an absolute chad move.

Man, I've got to finish this game at some point. It's so strikingly unique.
I hope you know how much all of us enjoy your playthroughs. Please never stop, you are actually my favorite channel right now!
No freaking way. The timing of this upload was ridiculous, I was wanting to start this game last week but couldn't warrant the free time at the moment. To think I can now watch it through the eyes of my favourite streamer is so great! Thanks Ryan
*nods in approval* very good
Another great game on the channel, we're so back
Oooh it's finally happening! You're in for a hell of a ride, this game is like nothing else.
As someone who’s new around here, what’s up with the ‘Me Daddy’ in the titles 😅 I’m watching your old play-throughs of other games
hahaha it's a relic of a bygone era--back in like 2020 when I started making videos on this channel, it was just a turn of phrase my wife and I would say a lot--add "me daddy" to the end of something to see what happened. It probably shouldn't have stuck around as long as it did but🤷♂️
@@lilindigestion haha I see. Well that makes sense :)
Ooohhhh - puts slowly getting through RE7 and Until Dawn videos on hold and hang on every moment of this until the end like I did with Outer Wilds!
let's go will
I love this
Oh wow I was so bummed out you werent gonna do BG3 this weekend, but this more than makes up for it :) Great game, have fun
thanks pewbeng :)
Good stuff! Along with Outer Wilds, Obra Dinn is my favourite game and it's fun to watch you get into it.
This is boom shakalaka for real, Ryan! 😄
This is the type of game I wouldn’t personally play but I’m really looking forward to seeing you play it. Also the art style is amazing!👍
This game was amazing. I don’t think there will ever be anything like it again. I wish I could play it for the first time again. It was a unexpected surprise

So excited for this! This is my second fav game of all time (after Outer Wilds). Enjoy!
Great game choice!
Yay!!! New game!
I'm a little late to watching this but my god am I excited to see you play this game.
Adin Ross been real quiet since this one dropped
Hey a bosun is blank. I know I am funny.
"dithering" is the word you were looking for
The word you were looking for is not pointillism, it's dithering, which means alternating pixels to create shading.
The only time I have seen the the word 'bosun', was a Borderlands boss named, The Bosun
What do you MEAN you've never played Obra Dinn
YESSSSSSSSSSS
A brilliant game, though I hope he doesn't get frustrated and try to brute force it.
May I recommend a game called Okami? It has a beautiful japanese style game that is unique :)) I don't think it's very famous but it's very remarkable

yep, we have a great mod team that keeps an eye on the comments for me! And a great community of existing viewers :)

i know you have to approximate to get our north american a sound out of japanese syllabaries, THAT SAID, shishiro fan?
32:46 I remember because it rhymes.
"Lost at sea - 1803"
It's been approx. 4 years.
It is not important to the mystery.

You'll obviously figure it out through the game. I ain't spoilin' nuthin'!
