Paul Gascoigne explains why he went to Rothbury earlier this year to try and speak with Raoul Moat. To watch the full interview go to www.rte.ie/player
Gascoigne was the Messi of his day . He was an absolute football genius . If wasn't for his injury's and alcoholism, people would be talking about him in the same breath as Maradona and Pele. He was that good.
For those of us fortunate to be in the same football era as this man, we (and i probably speak for the majority) can only empathise with him. It's a clear example of how footballers, or other sports stars, so used to being in the public domain can flip once the spotlight shines elsewhere i.e when their career is 'over'. He is very ill and it's heartbreaking to see him become progressively sicker, until the inevitable happens. I think people laughing along to his jokes gives a glimmer of hope, that he has public support and and can get through it, however morally wrong it may be. I love Gazza and the day he departs this planet will be a very sad one!
I see myself when i look at gazza, drink depression its horrible ironically im from gateshead too. Take each day as a challenge and try not to give up.
This is pretty depressing viewing to be honest - particularly the fact that the audience is laughing along with a story in which a mentally-impaired alcoholic turns up in the final hours of a suicidal criminal who shot dead a number of people hours earlier. "Cracking story Gazza, got any more?"
@TheKenfig No one is laughing now. ...and of course we have laughed at Gazza. Watch his earlier interviews where he is a lot more self assured and quick witted. A genuine funny, charming guy with a cheeky smile. Legend No one was laughing at Gazza. You don't know what you are talking about.
but this wasn't about u paul, and knowing this "thing" from the doors in newcastle. he had killed someone by then!!!! why is he turning this into some funny story??? it's fucking tragic.
Lets not forget he has mental condition/s yet some people think its ok to ridicule and give criticism to a person who has a disorder. Well done them have a medal. Also i see more positive reply's from people wishing him luck then their are pulling him down, this makes them pulling him down twice the looser.
Someone who doesn't try to help themselves. I've been there myself and unless you try you won't get anywhere. Gazza, as this interview shows, thinks it's one big joke.
Jeez, how come British people can't speak English? I can't understand a word out the Scottish guy, but I understand a little of what the English Interviewer is saying.
Being an alcoholic my self I feel for this man. Hope he manage to stay clean. He looks really good here...
This is how people sometimes beat addiction. . .by having a crack on about. . .good for him
You have to laugh sometimes to stop yourself from crying, I suspect that's what Gazza says to himself.

When gazza turned up with a curry for moaty i knew the end was nigh

Gr8 footballer now just flotsam jumping on the bandwagon - sad
It wouldnt have been funny if Gazza had got through police barriers and got shot by Moat, im surprised Gazza can find any funny side of it.
Nobodys perfect I guess when u make ur problems public u become a moral disgrace. Society is strange.

what a clown he is, he is laughing while telling the story when he claimed he knew raoul moat, he should be embarssed of himself.
