A supervisor once told me “just because someone feels stuck doesn’t mean they actually are” and while this won’t apply to everyone (certainly sometimes people feel stuck because they are) it helps me maintain a sense of hope and curiosity without getting pulled into the hopelessness clients can feel when they’re stuck. Good to see you making more content like this, Marie!

I identify as a Collaborative Therapist and have had the amazing honor of being trained by students of Harlene here in Houston! This video made me happy! Thanks for sharing ☺️

I think another part of this process is that it makes the "stuckness" the issue rather than the therapist or client. This can free both parties to look at the issue from a new perspective, which I think can be so incredibly helpful!

Thanks so much for this, as a therapist in training it was very helpful and interesting.
(If you are looking for feedback on the stock clips, as a general rule I despise the addition of stock clips!)

Very helpful Dr Fang! I think something else that can be useful is consulting the theoretical approach we use with clients to see how we’re progressing through the theory’s steps and interventions. Also reflecting on our own contribution to the stuckness (I.e is the client facing something that is also present in our life that we have not addressed?) and how our experience is interacting with our work with clients. Additionally, regularly asking for feedback from clients, consultations with colleagues, and case formulations are invaluable!

I hope you do more videos about your favorite clinical tips. Ive been watching for a few years and think this is a fun pivot even if its just occasionally!

Collaborative therapy is a very helpful approach which I find works with most if not all clients. I highly recommend Harlene Anderson's books, the ICCP program on Collaborative-Dialogic Practices, and internships at the Houston Galveston Institute. It is great experience!

Hey Marie, very interesting how this might differ from populations. I work at a psychiatric hospital right now and my supervisor had this same discussion, except argued for the position of NOT using we language because there is clearly a power differential and using “we” with inpatients can sound sort of condescending.

Very helpful. Been in this situation before. Don't care for the use of stock photos. It takes away from the connection with you.

Like the new editing but maybe used too frequently or close together? For me some of it started to distract from your message.

    Maybe it’s not a good fit after 8 sessions?😮
