I have the exact same spec Mazda 3 used in this video, and to my ears the Bose audio is the best factory setup I've ever had in any car I've owned, and that includes the premium audio in a 2012 Acura TSX. I dont judge car audio on how well the bass can loosen all the screws holding interior panels together, but it really does have great bass without being boomy like some aftermarket systems. Other than the unique for it's class front speaker placement (kick panels instead of the doors) I credit Mazdas newfound emphasis on sound deadening for helping it sound so great. Hey....great presentation bud...just have a question about the stereo effect...are the sounds differentiated frm each speaker...or is it flat?. I know the bass is awesome..just the stereo effect you might know better. Thanks
I hate how the low end is very NOT flat. I've been trying to change my settings and I found a reddit post of someone getting the full frequency spectrum with different bass / trebble settings using the Bose speakers and the hatchback and the low end is terribly not flat. Some of my songs have OVERWHELMING bass even with the volume turned down and others have bass at different frequencies and I can BARELY hear the low end bass on other songs. I didn't have this issue with my base speakers on my old 06 Mazda3, those speakers seemed significantly flatter and didn't have a bass disparity between different songs. I just hate the low end response of the Bose speakers. Its definitely loud, but it is very selective on when to be loud due to the response not being linear.
For Japanese/Korean mainstream cars, this is a very very good system but note you only get this in the higher 'GT' grades of Mazda 3 in many countries. However, there is a 'woodiness/blandness' about the Bose sound that does not quite get to audiophile level. In this regard, the UK 'Harmon Kardon premium' sound systems found in VW and BMW cars just sound so much better, esp. at loud volume, once you have twigged the equaliser on treble and bass towards the highest 1/3 brighter settings. That's another thing annoying about all Bose audio, you can't manually override/play around much with equaliser settings to get a tailored sound/brighter sound...
Fantastic review and dynamic range on these mics. The only thing I'd add to your review is the missing node of mid-low punch. Kick drums especially are flabby instead of powerful. Admittedly just my preference but it would be nice for at least more eq options from Bose/Mazda.
@@NekoOkto it actually does with wavelet. Wavelet will detect it as your phone speaker playing, so your phone speaker eq will be the same as for Android auto. I use Android auto on the daily, and wavelet works with it
Not sure if this will help you but I noticed that a lot of the punchy mids came from the two speakers near your feet in the front side of the car. I used to have mine faded heavily to the rear because it sounded more balanced to me but I liked the mid bass better when I got back to an even fade.
@@zheilman6 I typically prefer a balanced approach. I just feel like Bose really missed giving this system the ability to produce good mids that are so important to bass guitar and kick drums. An EQ is only so effective when a system struggles to reproduce a certain frequency range. Shame because highs and low end are not bad by any means.
Is the Bose worth the 3k extra? What do you think? In my country we got 18 inch wheels as a base 5 door model, so just the sound system… if think it’s worth it ?
Hi! I really find this video helpful. Planning to get this mazda 3 and speakers quality is one of my deciding factors. How does apple music lossless work with it? Should be sounding good too right?
@@rel6294 I have the non-base system and it is awesome except for one issue - lack of bass. The stock speakers are Pioneer. Two tweeters at ear level, 4 mid-range speakers - one on each door and - 2 woofers under the cowl. It has a 13 band equaliser and optimised mode for the driver. So compared to the Bose, it lacks the front centre speaker and the extra 2 at the back but who cares. As for the lack of subwoofer, I installed an aftermarket JL Audio 12inch subwoofer and it sounds fantastic. Much more bass than the Bose system. I have the crossover set at 50Hz, which brings the bass down to 26Hz. I prefer this than the Bose because the after market subwoofer brings it to a new level.
@@nickrose8733 thanks for this, I was thinking of getting the Mazda 3 the preferred package, I drive the Mazda 3 turbo and loved the sound, didn’t test drive the preferred tho cause it wasn’t available. I just wanted to see if there was such a huge difference in sound

Scores can vary a bit day to day, but I went back and listened to the recordings of both systems, and the Mazda 3 definitely had better stock tuning and more power, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't be able to tune the CX-5 to your liking. A few things to remember are 1. The CX-5 is a larger cabin, a bit more boomy, and they have to fight more road noise and echo in there. 2. The CX-5 hasn't been fully redesigned since 2017, so it's likely Mazda put more effort into the newer sound system in the 3 since it was redesigned more recently (the CX-30 system is closer to the 3 than the CX-5).
@@DailyMotor Ya, that makes sense. I'll just get a lower trim and install aftermarkets such as focal which I'm sure will sound miles better! Speaking of focal, hope you'll get the chance to try out one of the new Peugeots with focal sound system, I hear they're really good too.
How can you tell if you’ve got the upgraded sound system or not? I’ve got a 2018 grand touring Mazda 3. The speakers are pretty good but honestly not blown away. Midrange was pretty weak. I’ve heard from sound techs Bose are kinda the worst speakers.
I go with centerpoint at 1, Treble at 1 and bass at 7 but I like bass. Fade and balance at zero. I've messed with the settings quite a bit and this is what I settled on.
@@JustinHEMI05 @JustinHEMI I'm really used to my 2.1 music system and I typically lean towards the airy type of sound with slight emphasis on sub-bass. I keep the settings at bass -3 and treble +3. I ended up turning off centerpoint bc it made some songs sound artificial/canned. I keep it on the drivers position when I'm by myself and it still sounds decent with the all seats setting. I left the bose stereo setting on standard, but the linear setting would be more akin to a 2ch setup if you are into that. I just happen to prefer the surround effect in cars. Increase the bass to taste, but personally anything over zero is a bit much for me.
You don't. It's crystal clear, high contrast - never had issues with reading it and I'm 55 with glasses. I'll never go back to a touchscreen. Have used both and this system works so slick - rarely even have to look at the screen while driving to change channels or adjust audio settings (can literally do with my eyes closed - no one will ever claim that ability with a touchscreen).
Because there is no other place to put it. Subwoofers generally require a box to get the best sound, but putting it in the spare tyre is a compromise. However, it is not a true subwoofer in the sense that it consists of two 10 cm speakers so it can fit in the spare tyre. If you want true, deep bass, get rid of it and put in a 12 inch subwoofer in an enclosure. Sure you lose some trunk space, but it's worth it.

Thanks! We'd love to. Mazda doesn't carry many base test cars unfortunately, but when we get a chance we'll take it!
@@DailyMotor thanks man, appreciate it!
I just wanted to see if there was such a huge difference in sound
did you have surround sound during your testing or did you turn it off?
Do all trim levels of the Mazda 3 have Bose? what is difference between preferred trim sound system and then premium trim? i am looking at select and preferred. Wanted to keep things under 26K or so. i dont really need a sun roof. Want power seats and i like a great sound system. Hmmm.
Why does charlie have the tesla app in his phone?
I wondered if anyone would notice that ;) stay tuned next week!
does the mazda3 have wireless apple car play? I want to get the sedan version but wireless apple car play is needed
What about the sound quality with CarPlay and AndroidAuto?
Would you say this is better than the Mazda 6 Bose system?
Thanks 👍
You got to do the sedan version
Cool. Hey just curious, when you guys get press cars.. do you have to fill the gas back up when you give them back? How does insurance work?
Yes, we always return the cars filled and cleaned. Insurance varies, but we carry insurance and the manufacturers typically do also.
`Compared to the CX-5 bose, is it much better? I'm considering the cx-5 and was disappointed with the 6.5/10 score it got.
Waiting for the MPG test!!!
Editing it right now :)
@@DailyMotor Awesome, thank you!
It seems like you really have to turn it up to get any volume at all out of it.
do u recommend centerpoint on (lv1) or off?
Please tell me when where the subwoofer is located!
Spare tire
How much does the bose option cost?
How can you tell if you’ve got the upgraded sound system or not? I’ve got a 2018 grand touring Mazda 3. The speakers are pretty good but honestly not blown away. Midrange was pretty weak. I’ve heard from sound techs Bose are kinda the worst speakers.
What size is the sub in the trunk?
Do you have recommend settings for the Bose? Recognizing everyone's tastes are different. Just looking for good starting point.
I go with centerpoint at 1, Treble at 1 and bass at 7 but I like bass. Fade and balance at zero. I've messed with the settings quite a bit and this is what I settled on.
@@zheilman6 thank you Zach.
Increase the bass to taste, but personally anything over zero is a bit much for me.
how many watts?
Does the Bose sound system come standard in the new Mazda 3's?
Standard on the upper trim levels.
@@InfiniteJ7 what is the sound system on the Select and preferred trim levels. Is the premium Bose system an optional upgrade on the Preferred?
Beoplay in Focus or Bose in Mazda 3?
I don't know, Ford abandoned us with the Focus.
With a screen that small I wonder if I’d need glasses.
You don't. It's crystal clear, high contrast - never had issues with reading it and I'm 55 with glasses. I'll never go back to a touchscreen. Have used both and this system works so slick - rarely even have to look at the screen while driving to change channels or adjust audio settings (can literally do with my eyes closed - no one will ever claim that ability with a touchscreen).
i tried to sit in the mazda 3, and screen is not that small
No, unless you’re dead blind. And if so, you should be wearing glasses or contacts anyways. I have a 2021 Mazda 6 and it’s easy to see everything lol
if i have to be honest, i dont rate that high. I liked mark levinson on lexus much better then my current mazda 3 Bose
I can't seem to get all my speakers to work while using android carplay?
i have this same issue
The speakers in the rear doors/C-pillar don't really do much until you turn on Centerpoint.
okay wait, why is subwoofer on the spare tire compartment?
Because there is no other place to put it. Subwoofers generally require a box to get the best sound, but putting it in the spare tyre is a compromise. However, it is not a true subwoofer in the sense that it consists of two 10 cm speakers so it can fit in the spare tyre. If you want true, deep bass, get rid of it and put in a 12 inch subwoofer in an enclosure. Sure you lose some trunk space, but it's worth it.
You need some sabaton songs for testing :-D
Lol, I saw them live once in Cleveland. Rowdy bunch of dudes, but they're fun. I can throw some Sabaton in the members only tests, but I can't do copyrighted music in these normal tests :/
you are probably the only reviewer that doesn't just play some copyright free overused shit track and think that's enough for everyone to know what the sound system is like lmao
Great audio system! Btw i made a song by myself, if you're intrested in using it in your videos, pls reply to this comment. Keep your hard work up!

@@DailyMotor sended!
1:20 "giving you the most realistic audio system demo on RUclips"
- WHAT?! Do you think you forgot something?! THE VIEWER HEARS IT THROUGH THEIR OWN SPEAKERS!!!!!
- how can it be an audio demo?!
...but is there another channel that makes it more realistic?
@@DailyMotor Visual information and what you say to wise; clearly I don't know, that requires extensive investigation, and you don't know either! The salient point though is that proper realism must obviously involve listening to it and you have to be there for that. Anyway, what brought me here was I'm getting an MX-5 ND soon with the 9 speaker system and I was curious as to what people think of Bose in Mazdas.
I have to disagree. I listened to the Bose system on a test drive and it's pretty woeful. Sounds much worse than about a $300 custom system. Definitely not worth the asking price
You were drunk
It's the only thing that keeps me from buying a Mazda, those damn ugly non-touch screens. I upgrade the receiver unit in every vehicle I own. Will not buy a vehicle that has a radio/nav that cannot be changed or upgraded.
