I think the dark wood is a terrific addition. Imaging it with two tall lamps.. crystal glasses, reflecting into the light of a grand mirror. Wood textures within a modern setting..brings complexity and sophistication. Beautiful addition!!

My mom always did that and I love it. There was a store in St. Petersburg Florida that hotels would change decor, this store bought it. People would by the dressers for the marble on top as the furniture was very cheap.
Your new living room cabinet looks great. However, most furniture in your home is already painted. I think you’ll do well to leave this the natural, dark brown. The contrast could be appreciated. Yes, turning it into a full-service bar would be perfect. Best of luck. Rick

I love the rich, dark wood finish and think it looks like an expensive antique. I would definitely live with it for a while (a year or so 😉😊🥰) and then decide if painting is the course you wish to take. Personally, I have no problem mixing some painted pieces with gorgeous wood tones. Additionally, I would find two taller buffet lamps that take up less surface real estate but use some of that vertical space and use a large tray to create your bar, flanked by the lamps. That silver tray with the cookies on is lovely and might work brilliantly for you. Gorgeous flowers and a treat to liven up any room! 😍🥰😍

It is getting too expensive here in a LOT of areas. I just want to tell people who suffer from procrastination, ADHD, etc., and don't have any extra money, like me, there is a wealth of free info and exercises on the Internet to help you reach your goals. Just a thought.
Enjoyed your video Nicolas. Cookies look good and your flowers are beautiful. Yes nothing gives happiness like flowers do. Just a suggestion here but before you paint the sideboard (if you decide to) could you paint a good size piece of plain lining paper in the colour you’d like to paint the sideboard. Place it on the top, fasten it to a door or the side of the sideboard just to give a feel of how it will look in the room. Keep moving the paper to the top, front and sides of the sideboard observing the colour in different light. Creating a kind of mood board in a sense to see how it would fit with the rest of your lounge decor. I’ve done this with a small cupboard before painting it and it really helped. I’m sure it’ll look great whatever you decide. It fits well in the space. Greetings from Yorkshire ❤

Yes, paint the beautiful cupboard. It's too dark for the room. But rather than matte black, perhaps consider a deeper shade of the wall colour. It'll still make a statement, but a harmonious one. And a unique mirror above it will look wonderful, reflecting more light into the room and adding depth of visual space. Lovely video as always.. XXXX
I’ve lived with painted furniture for about 25 years. But I have one vintage inlaid desk that I probably will never paint. It stands out in an elegant way.
Unless you have other pieces of black furniture in the room, I think if you paint that lovely sideboard, it might look out of place. Your aesthetic seems to be light furniture. Those flowers are beautiful. What a lovely relaxing video. Thank you 🤗

I think the dark wood of the cabinet is beautiful. You already have some darker contrasts in the room - black (?) frames on the prints, the rug has a dark border. even the umbrella :) I think the cabinet colour enhances 'dimensionality' of the room, you could add other contrasts like a mahogany stool/magazine rack etc. it's beautiful!
Nice episode, good variety and length. So Glad you added the PIANO music overlay, missed it. The flowers are beautiful, I could almost smell the stems of fuchsia Stock through the screen. The silver tray covered with cookies looks wonderful as well, enticing viewer to want to join there as I do. You pulled it all together nicely. I like your new purchase. I know you get lots of comments with opinions from fans, but I think, with this piece you should channel the Designer inside of you and follow your gut, your heart and head, listening to each as to leave, paint, distress, etc. When all three speak to you, you'll know the right thing to do with it. There is no hurry, take your time to decide. As a designer, I like to sketch options out with colored pencil or paint options on paper to get a mini visual before making the final decision. On the one hand, Black and white is such a great modern trend. One the other lighter side, it could be painted using the same paint you used for your guest room side tables, then Modge Podged (glazed like those little wooden boxes you used to make) with your NK logo on the doors or the beautiful rose or peony florals you use for your Brand image Marketing. Maybe even take the simple leaf design on your Earl Gray Tea Bag and stencil it up and down or around it. As for the top, what I did with a antique French piece I have is to keep it the dark wood color which I love and think is sophisticated and classic, but my top absolutely needed a make over too. I chose to buy a piece of custom cut glass to fit the top and I use black glass spray paint on the under side to make it look like Onyx. I also toyed with the idea of using Mirror Spray paint or Mirror glass film on the under side so it would be a mirrored top. That may be the solution to getting the mirror benefit since you missed the marketplace purchase. That would leave that wall space open for another piece of art or a portrait gallery. It may be disappointing to miss out on the perfect antique wall mirror BUT, you've already have a round mirror over the fireplace so you really don't need two in the one room. Hope that makes you feel better. Everything happens for a reason and I believe it provides the opportunity to create another interesting focal point to the room as you find the perfect thing(s) to showcase on that wall. The fun is in the wondering, the contemplating, the planning, so let the creative juices flow and take your designing where it wants to go. If it were me, I'd use the top of the new piece for my tea set and cups used daily and switch it out if/when you have a cocktail happy hour planned. Alcohol bottles never look chic (not even the expensive ones), most designers chose crystal decanters or interesting glass decanters for a more refined, high end look. But if you are going for practical, down to earth living with your Brand, then cluster the bottles on that Silver Tray with a cocktail shaker and either a black ice bucket or Silver Champagne bucket. Do you remember when you went to that Posh Royal Family Memorabilia Hotel Suite? Think back, That professionally designed space could provide great inspiration for that area. Build your Brand with your unique style. Options are fun, play with it. Looking forward to seeing it evolve.

Glass cut to size for your new cabinet would be nice as you could see the wood beneath and the glass would reflect light for bar area objects etc you plan on using. It would also put a modern eclectic element to the piece itself and the area which is what seems to be happening. I like it.

You could have a piece of glass cut to the exact shape of the sideboard top, to protect it from spills. I wouldn’t paint it, damage can be repaired and nothing beats a lovely wood piece among painted furniture, it grounds the room.

I think that sideboard might look wonderful if you chalk paint it. I painted a dark wood tallboy with Authentico Nearly Black chalk paint, which looks very much like that Pinterest image you showed. I then gently sanded the edges of the top and cupboard top and cupboard doors and molding to show some of the warmth of the wood underneath. I finished it with wax by the same company and it looks so good. I often just stand and admire it and am so glad I did it even if I had to take a deep breath before starting! Thanks for your lovely channel. 😊 I hope you find a lovely mirror for the wall at some point.
Great idea to turn the cabinet into a bar. In my opinion, while the piece is lovely, it's too dark in that lovely room full of cream, beige, and off-white. A distressed finish in clotted cream or linen with hints of subtle antique gold would be perfect. Thank you for another relaxing video. 😊

Hello Nicolas, loving your channel, very inspiring! Well, my suggestion for the cabinet is to use a black stain rather than a paint. Distressed furniture can look a bit corny and naff. Imho The stain is a more sophisticated vibe fitting to you. Go well!
The christmas Tea!! I almost forgot about that Nicholas! I will be ordering some of course. As for the sideboard table, yes I would go dark, possibly black greenish color. I would add some antiqued brass hardware drawer pulls and call it a day or even antique copper drawer pulls. The color of antique copper with the blueish green tarnish would go really well in that room I think.

Hi Nicolas. I have a large dark wood sideboard, which i had painted in a very light grey; i now regret that and wish i had left it in its original condition. On another note, if you are going to use your sideboard as a bar, you might consider having pull-out inserts installed so you do not have to struggle accessing your stemware.
I agree. Your wood piece is attractive and creates welcoming warmth, especially when it functions as a bar for alcohol, espresso or tea. Missing and much needed is some sort of height on that wall. The line from the bookcase and round table is flat enough. Maybe shelves or some sort of cabinet with glass doors would provide display for your glasses, etc, and create a nice, new focal point which reaches out and envelops the window, painting, fireplace, and all the besutiful rest right up to the dining area. About your new furniture purchase. Since you've already painted a lot of things white, I would leave it as is, although the blue chest of drawers you showed as an example looks great, especially that shade of blue. I would distress it but do a light marble affect as all your other furniture is light , otherwise you could paint it to match your light furniture and do stencils of drinks and bottles on the sideboard so people know it's a drinks cabinet , whatever you do I'm sure you will do a great job ❤

I chose to buy a piece of custom cut glass to fit the top and I use black glass spray paint on the under side to make it look like Onyx. I also toyed with the idea of using Mirror Spray paint or Mirror glass film on the under side so it would be a mirrored top. That may be the solution to getting the mirror benefit since you missed the marketplace purchase. That would leave that wall space open for another piece of art or a portrait gallery. It may be disappointing to miss out on the perfect antique wall mirror BUT, you've already have a round mirror over the fireplace so you really don't need two in the one room. Hope that makes you feel better. Everything happens for a reason and I believe it provides the opportunity to create another interesting focal point to the room as you find the perfect thing(s) to showcase on that wall. The fun is in the wondering, the contemplating, the planning, so let the creative juices flow and take your designing where it wants to go. If it were me, I'd use the top of the new piece for my tea set and cups used daily and switch it out if/when you have a cocktail happy hour planned. Alcohol bottles never look chic (not even the expensive ones), most designers chose crystal decanters or interesting glass decanters for a more refined, high end look. But if you are going for practical, down to earth living with your Brand, then cluster the bottles on that Silver Tray with a cocktail shaker and either a black ice bucket or Silver Champagne bucket. Do you remember when you went to that Posh Royal Family Memorabilia Hotel Suite? Think back, That professionally designed space could provide great inspiration for that area. Build your Brand with your unique style. Options are fun, play with it. Looking forward to seeing it evolve.

Glass cut to size for your new cabinet would be nice as you could see the wood beneath and the glass would reflect light for bar area objects etc you plan on using. It would also put a modern eclectic element to the piece itself and the area which is what seems to be happening. I like it.

You could have a piece of glass cut to the exact shape of the sideboard top, to protect it from spills. I wouldn’t paint it, damage can be repaired and nothing beats a lovely wood piece among painted furniture, it grounds the room.

I think that sideboard might look wonderful if you chalk paint it. I painted a dark wood tallboy with Authentico Nearly Black chalk paint, which looks very much like that Pinterest image you showed.
I then gently sanded the edges of the top and cupboard top and cupboard doors and molding to show some of the warmth of the wood underneath.
I finished it with wax by the same company and it looks so good. I often just stand and admire it and am so glad I did it even if I had to take a deep breath before starting!

Great idea to turn the cabinet into a bar. In my opinion, while the piece is lovely, it's too dark in that lovely room full of cream, beige, and off-white. A distressed finish in clotted cream or linen with hints of subtle antique gold would be perfect. Thank you for another relaxing video. 😊

Hello Nicolas, loving your channel, very inspiring! Well, my suggestion for the cabinet is to use a black stain rather than a paint. Distressed furniture can look a bit corny and naff. Imho The stain is a more sophisticated vibe fitting to you. Go well!
The christmas Tea!! I almost forgot about that Nicholas! I will be ordering some of course. As for the sideboard table, yes I would go dark, possibly black greenish color. I would add some antiqued brass hardware drawer pulls and call it a day or even antique copper drawer pulls. The color of antique copper with the blueish green tarnish would go really well in that room I think.
Oh Nicholas, you magical tea elf, you have done it again! I was so excited to see your Christmas Tea arrived in my mailbox today. It was fantastic, and unusual. My friend came in to the kitchen and asked what that 'wonderful' smell was.. The aroma is divine and taste even better. I might have buy a few more so I can enjoy all year.

Hi Nicolas. I have a large dark wood sideboard, which i had painted in a very light grey; i now regret that and wish i had left it in its original condition. On another note, if you are going to use your sideboard as a bar, you might consider having pull-out inserts installed so you do not have to struggle accessing your stemware.

I agree. Your wood piece is attractive and creates welcoming warmth, especially when it functions as a bar for alcohol, espresso or tea. Missing and much needed is some sort of height on that wall. The line from the bookcase and round table is flat enough. Maybe shelves or some sort of cabinet with glass doors would provide display for your glasses, etc, and create a nice, new focal point which reaches out and envelops the window, painting, fireplace, and all the besutiful rest right up to the dining area. A piece of marble would look great on your new chest especially if you use it as a bar. I wouldn't paint it - I think the wood is gorgeous.

About your new furniture purchase. Since you've already painted a lot of things white, I would leave it as is, although the blue chest of drawers you showed as an example looks great, especially that shade of blue. How about just a furniture marker in the shade of brown to hide the scuffs. Then live with it a bit to see if you like it in its natural state. ❤ loved your video as always. Beautiful flowers! Everything 💯👍❤
I would distress it but do a light marble affect as all your other furniture is light , otherwise you could paint it to match your light furniture and do stencils of drinks and bottles on the sideboard so people know it's a drinks cabinet , whatever you do I'm sure you will do a great job ❤
