This is amazing for such a small sensor camera! I'm a huge canon fan for a long time, and just recently considered leaving the nest, so to speak. I work with a photographer in the realm of event video and will definitely be trying to convince him that this is worth the investment! Great little camera. Looks like just what we need to help set us apart.

On many of the shots, the far left corners and edges were somewhat soft. (not all the shots though) In some cases, there are even larger soft areas. The right side had some areas too but didn't seem as bad.
How would you compare this to the Sony PXW-70 which is getting a paid 4k upgrade this month?

Better image quality than $2600 Sony :)

I purchased the JVC GY-HM170 (which in terms of image quality should be the same as the HM200), but I am not having anywhere near as good experience as you are showing in low light. My video is ridiculously grainy. I'm ready to send it back to B and H Photo. The only difference is perhaps because I am shooting at 1080P and not 4K. I will try that next.

+Steve Cervera Ensure your gain settings are low. If you jack up the db, it'll throw major noise.
Also, shooting 4k and then down-rezzing that to 2k in post will shrink any grain by 4x, making for a much cleaner (and sharper) 1080p image than shooting 1080 in the camera.

@@siscokid915 I had very good results in home with low light with the JVC HM200, but I realized the image was a bit "blurry", still the results were very good. I can't speak for the Sony, but there is a huge price gap between both, and the JVC HM200 has for sure the better price/performance - ratio.

Is there any difference between this and the GY-HM170UA? I heard the only differences where live streaming and HD-SDI outs, but the rest of the camera was the same. For a while you couldn't get the XLR handle with it, but it looks now that they are including that with them.
I am looking for my very first pro camcorder for more serious projects, and I am really liking this one's price tag and features.

Great video. I have purchased on your advise. Not sure how you switched the DB levels so quickly, I am only aware of the LOLUX/3 for low light, maybe use of the GAIN, but how do I adjust the DB as you showed in the video please?

Can you help me: Why does the camera create new video files instead of putting everything into one video file?

Go to the Rec Mode located in the Record Set menu. Here you can switch between Clip Continuous and having the clips segmented. Switch between the settings and you will find you can then record one clip of any duration. Cheers, Rick

Maybe someone can help me here with a problem that I have having. Is there a reason why I can't hear any audio while i'm recording? Literally my headphone are plugged in and I can't hear anything unless I rematch the video. I want to be able to hear everything while the audio is being recorded, not just replaying it after I finish shooting?

when you're wide... it's not terrible in low light. if you zoom in all the way... it's got this iris limitation... and will look really bad (at least from my experience with it... which i've only used a few times at this point). but... for the price point... i like the camcorder as i gradually make the jump to 4k.
