    The ones that take on new pass are generally not the best jobs. My first job almost put me off. It's mostly the insurance companies stopping them taking on new pass. Just stick with it until you have the experience.

    Late to the show but browsing vids as I have my Class 2 driving test in a month and getting more insight as to where to start.
    Something that wasn't mentioned in the vid, which may be another way in and get experience, is to be a banksman. Your tacho still goes into the machine and you are still registering hours doing the job, which could look favourably to employers and open up a few pathways into getting that drive.

    Refuse companies generally take on new drivers, I have been driving bin wagons for the past 3 months to get the experience. Honestly not a bad job either, good money and great hours

    As a new class 2 driver, go for a refuse collection job to get experience. You might not like it but just go for it to get experience. Once you have the experience its easy to get another driving job.

    I just passed my Class 1 test after a six month set back after discovering I had dangerously high blood pressure during the medical. My friend who went on the same course with me passed his Class 2 and got a job earning £38k within three months because he had experience in multi-drop from working in a supermarket as a delivery driver. As have a I. I'm thinking of going for the same job before I use my Class 1 just to get the experience on HGV. I think those supermarket vans might be a great stepping stone to get some experience.

    I have had my Class 1 license for 18 months, and no one will give me a job having no experience. They all ask for 6 - 18 months proveable driving experience.
    I am also registered at every agency within a 30 mile radius of me, what you advise I have done and more, still nothing.
    The most foolish thing I did was give up my old career for this, I answered the call of my country to fill the "driver shortage" and have lost out, finacially and career wise, just to be told that I am now lazy and need to get off my backside.
    Now my only option is to take a zero hours contract for minimum wage, 12 hour shifts 60 hours a week, in a refigerated warehouse working on a line or packing boxes. And to be honest I would rather just claim benefits.
    I am happy you are one of the lucky ones and wish you all the best.

      @truckersworld2949  9 месяцев назад

      Got to admit after reading this I found it hard to believe you couldn't even get class 2 work. Bin driving usually take on new pass, alot more scope for Class 2. Sounds really bad though what's happened. If you have had the licence 18 months you might just have to tell a few white lies about your experience providing you feel confident in your driving abilities

    • @davidkaye8712
      @davidkaye8712 9 месяцев назад

      @@truckersworld2949 I dont understand it either, my local council is always advertising for drivers, the shortage is so bad that they use transit cage vans to collect rubbish due to their shortage. Just today they placed a "new" advert for drivers so I have applied again for the umpteenth time. I had the jobcentre refer me to one of their third party advisors and have been with them for two months, even they cant secure me an interview and my advisor has haulage industry experience and contacts. He keeps saying its not a cas of IF but WHEN. that being said I get more responses from my own searching than with their help.
      As for my abilities, I love driving, cant get enough, confident but not overly. In regard to white lies, its a little difficult with a digicard as it keeps a driving record so they know when you are lying or not. I just keep throwing mud at the wall in the hope it sticks, but when I see my foreign friends uncle get a job that we both applied for with him being a new pass the same as me, and I get rejected and told its because I have no experience, but he gets the job with no experience, I am left to wonder.

    Hello mate, I’m a newly passed class 1 driver. Passed in December 2023. I’ve applied for so many jobs and registered with loads of agencies. Would you recommend doing class 2 work to gain experience? I want a class 1 job but no one will come near me. A few companies have got back to me about class 2 positions, I have an interview next week for a class 2 position.

    • @truckersworld2949
      @truckersworld2949  8 месяцев назад

      I would yes, although it won't help much regarding class 1 work, overall it will help in regards to your experience. Getting that first experience is harder with class 1, summer is very busy with agencies, they become less picky. See if you can get class 2 with a firm that also does class 1.

    Hi mate, thanks for all the info. I’ve been a car mechanic for 40 years last 20 working for myself as a mobile mechanic, my grandad was a truck mechanic & dad & uncle truck drivers. Always wanted to do it so I’m currently going through my Class1 at 56 years old, I’m lucky I don’t need to earn a lot so I’m going to still mobile mechanic for a couple of days a week then truck for a couple. I’m going to get on a agency & see what I can get, luckily I don’t need a full time job so if I have to go to class2 to get that experience I will before I can get on class 1. Keep up the good work & I’m sure you’ll get where you want to be, it’s great your doing all this the info is great. Keep on trucking 😉👌🏼🛻
