I totally thought the same thing but try doing a subtractive method! I learned how to do it in figure drawing and it's crazy how easy it is to develop form with a kneaded eraser :)

That's probably from an art shop, you can buy A3 and A2 sizes, which are the most popular(in Hungary, where I live) but you can find B3, B2 etc. in bigger shops!
