To those who don’t know the facts: Egypt is in Africa. (It still there) Ancient Egyptians were Africans. Modern Egyptian are the last descendants of the last and long line of conquerors. It’s that simple. Not all people in Africa are black. Hieroglyphics show the contrast in skin color between the Egyptians and Nubians. Egyptians are nowhere near as dark.

Do not underestimate what we can learn from Herodotus. His information is coming from extremely biased northern priest in the Delta. He hints that they are biased many times anyway especially when he casually mentions that the 'Thebans' could understand the Ammonians but not the people of the Delta. It is read as the Ammonians were half Egyptian but logically it was the Ammonians and the Thebans who were Egyptian and the people of the delta who were half Egyptian. That is why the Thebans understood them perfectly. Anyway, the term 'Ammonian' makes no sense as just a couple of hundred years before Herodotus and for the preceding 1500 years all Egyptians would have been considered Ammonians because they all worshipped Amun who was their national god. He also tells the story of the 'Deserters'. There is no way deserters would have left Egypt because they had not been relieved. They would have simply went home. The warrior class fought for Amun and they would have not followed any Pharaoh who did not. The way it is described would have been like the Pope's troops leaving for the Caliph. They left and insulted Psamtik I on the way out because he was an usurper and they went to Kush because the king there was the former Pharaoh and they shared more in common with the Kushites who were also followers of Amun than with Psamtik who followed Set, made allegiance with Assyria and helped sack Thebes. They despised Psamtik so much they showed him their private goods.
