Hey Philip. Simon and Garfunkle originally did this song as a warning if people didn't listen. David's version is the angry aftermath because people didn't listen. Paul Simon even said that this was David's song now, best rendition out there. I've instructed my kids to play this version when I leave this world, hoping that more people will listen. The world needs to really listen to these lyrics, very powerful meaning.
Agree with you Jeb, finally the song is complete. It's a warning. It's sung with the pain the rawness and the aftermath of not heeding the warnings from within.
I really like the artistry of this video. Its basically in 5 parts. Part 1 just him and the piano, part 2 then blend in the acoustic guitar, part 3 they bring in the whole orchestra, part 4 those timpani, part 5 the crescendo. Each time the lights open up on the people that got included. Its pretty amazing for a live version.
just so you note David was sick during this performance as well, I've love this band for many years grew up on it, yep I'm old lol. Anyways their live performances are the best the band puts on great show and the interact with the crowd, can't asked for anything else, great band, performances, and crowd pleasers.
AAHHH ..CHILLS!! 😮 This is my favorite cover. Disturbed had past training between opera and naturally vocal in heavy metal songs!! Not a dull moment in this cover!! Peace to all. 🏵️
Loved your reaction. I'm 74 and remember the original version of S & G. My son introduced me to this version and I can't stop watching it. To me this song has always contained a message to try and wake up everyone and David expresses the anger and poignancy of the song so well.
In an interview David said that during this performance he was suffering from a lesion on his larynx that required surgery shortly thereafter and three months of not speaking to recover. He had been suffering from this condition for a while and had to adjust his singing using other parts of his larynx and muscles so as not to further damage it. You need to check out his interviews. Fascinating.
I've heard this so many times but I never tire of it and I never fail to get chills. This is in my opinion one of the best if not the very best vocal performances of all time. Simply amazing.
David said he has no problem getting up in front of thousands of people but the cameras made him a nervous wreck. He also had the flu and he was sitting because he was afraid he'd fall over if he had to stand.
This was an extraordinarily good reaction - thanks. If you watch this again (or the studio version) listen closely in the second verse when the guitar starts playing, you'll hear the strings start as well. Cheers.
The singer, David Draiman, was trained as a Jewish Cantor (a person who calls the worshipers to temple, and leads them in prayer) As was his father and grandfather. While some may not consider it a "classical" vocal education, it predates that idea by over two thousand years.
For breakfast... He eats a big bowl of Wheaties sprinkled with nails and gravel... and orange juice spiked with Everclear. I think this is how this song was meant to be sung. I have heard that Simon and Garfunkel agreed that this rendition of their song sounds better than their original.
Watch his original video of The Sound of Silence, more intense performance and you’ll understand more the words written by Paul Simon (Simon and Garfunkel)
The fact he was sick while singing this on this show is a testament to his voice too. If you haven't heard Johnny Cash doing his last song which is a cover to a nine inch nails song (Hurt). You should really review it, but you better have tissues on you.
This was probably the 26th song you reacted to that day, right? You can't approach these things like piecework-the more, the better. Take your time, don't rush, do a bit of homework, and discuss. The fans of the song will appreciate it. For a channel with 327K subscribers, the video has only 17.8K views after 1 year, which is quite low. 806 likes and 49 comments (well, 50 now) show limited engagement. It hasn't captured much attention from the channel’s audience. There's potential, but something is missing to generate more interest or interaction. Rating: 4/10

Really love this song 😍🥰
The original singers were Simon & Garfunkel
He also had the flu that night and still sounded like that
The original was a suggestion.
This was a warning.
David❤️

You need to react to White Buffalo singing The Whistler on acoustic guitar. You'll be impressed, I'm sure! Trust me.
Hey Philip, please react to Gabriel Henrique's new performance on AGT. Him singing Something Beautiful by Jacob Banks.
Kindly react to iam tongi sound of silence..
