  • Interested in being a psychologist/therapist/counselor in India?
    Hello everyone, this is Shatakshi & Kashish. We are Psychology students, currently in our last year of graduation, and have experienced some problems/misconceptions about psychology as a career in India. Which we will be discussing in this video.
    The video is going to be informative for all the students who might be giving their 12th examinations this year, and are struggling to make a career choice. The video however isn't only for them, but for anyone who is interested in knowing about the career aspect of PSYCHOLOGY IN INDIA, and it's real picture.
    Some problems with their respective solutions we discussed in this video:
    1.MONEY- We talked about what to expect from this field, and the probable problems faced in making money.
    As well as what can be done to avoid it.
    2.COLLEGES- How important are colleges? What value can they provide, along with what they cannot provide.
    What you can do to lessen your stress.
    3.ENTRANCE EXAMS- The tricky game of college entrances, CUET and more which are here to bite even us. Is there an escape?
    4.WHAT YOU'LL STUDY- Will you be able to "read minds"?
    In the end we have concluded our video on a positive note, tried to inspire you to choose the career of psychology , but bewared you to not be delusional.
    The less walked paths may have less footsteps, but maybe you can become the one for people to follow.❤️

    Alright, I guess a comment section is as good a place to talk about this.
    I've been interested in this subject precisely because I want to help people understand that the overwhelming problems that they face do have a chance of being solved if they sit down and engage in conversation.
    It does worry me that I might not be able to make as much money although I can see myself liking my job, that is if i get it, if I become a counselling psychologist. I already know the adverse effect of listening to people's problems, it does take a toll on my mind when I'm uncertified and untrained but I do like the outcome if the individual who talked to me ended up well. As for a side skill, that will definitely take some time but I'm sure it will work someday.
    All that I need to know is ways of hoe to build connections and get some information on how life will go after 12th and how exactly you find yourself being an intern.
    Also, i hope my family understands that I don't wish to be an engineer, at all.

Apart from the issues and cons in this field the satisfaction you get after your first counceling session and seeing the mental health improving of the person whom you helped is like non other. Keep going guys its a beautiful field.

    1 thing that I want to add. if you want to do Mphil, then do not choose open learning as many universities do not allow IGNOU or any other open university students to even apply. In my case, I have a RCi approved collage just 5 KM from my house. But I have to go Delhi as I am only eligible there as an IGNOU student. Check your RCi approved collages/universities who allow ODL students.

    Hii guyss I just finished my 1st Pu and I'm really interested in psychology especially forensic psychology also I'm a science student who WAS a JEE aspirant but I'm honestly thinking of dropping out I've been interested in psychology since I was 12 but back then it was mostly a hobby to learn abt psychology. I've always thought that I would end up taking psychology as my career but becoz of the stigma and having no scope in the career especially in india I ended up taking science and becoming a JEE aspirant . I'm not sure if its a good decision for me to drop out and take psychology as my career becoz its highly risky and theres almost no scope in india. true i could go abroad and get a degree but as someone from a middle class family I dont want to put so much finacial pressure on my family. Also this video sort of helped me to see the down sides of it and I'm still ready to take it up as a career I'm just having some trouble making proper decisions right now and If some one from the comment section could give me some advice on what I should be doing it would be great.
    Thanks!

    I really need your help please I hope you reply 🙏
    Okay so I'm 20 this year and just gave exam for final year bsc ..... before that just after 12th and during 1st year I gave NEET and truly speaking I never really tried to do well in that, I don't even remember studying during high school and college.

    • @Starlight-gx9pi
      @Starlight-gx9pi Год назад +3

      My family is like any other Indian middle class who like to compare me with others, who have high expectations and who aren't ready to give me more years without really earning and doing good job.

    • @Starlight-gx9pi
      @Starlight-gx9pi Год назад +2

      I kind of agree that I changed my mind tons of time by now, like first not really good marks in 10th, same with 12th, failed to clear NEET. No hig expectations in bsc result. Except this I did graphic designing course not really practicing it tho, going to apply for ssc because that's what my parents want me to do and I don't have guts to deny after being a failure for past years with no motivation to actually do anything

    • @Starlight-gx9pi
      @Starlight-gx9pi Год назад +1

      Just after 12th I wanted to pursue psychology but some very settled people of our family said that psychology is waste of time in India, no scope for newcomers, this field demands experienced people and till than nothing to do. So I stopped thinking about it, and focused on government exam and college plus designing.

      I want to pursue psychology because well.... I can't share more I mean I already overshared but still, so yeah I wanted to pursue it to help people going through problems about which they can't share in normal society of India because believe me I've tried. Anyways so can you please help me now what to do. It would be helpful if you mention your insta handle if you've and you're free to help me with this. Because it's just too much audience here 😅

    • @psychways955
      @psychways955  Год назад +6

      That is a pretty subjective question. But, I'll try to clear your mind a little bit.
      First of all, in today's time each and every career requires you to put yourself out, gain as many skills as possible. So the scenario of any career being superior to the other is superficial today.
      Second, you should consider your financial background, and then decide. Do you quickly need to start something, or do you have time? Because to be honest, Engineering and Psychology both are time consuming fields. And also consider how much return on investment you'll be able to get from both.
      This is something only you'll be able to figure out.
      Third, as you said you are interested in psychology, then you definitely should watch some of its lectures on RUclips first, see if it's fulfilling your desires or not. If Engineering doesn't seem appealing to you, you won't be able to provide any value in this field. Try to ask some difficult questions from yourself and figure out.
      Lastly, Psychology as I said in the video is a fulfilling career option, just a little different from the norm. If you actually are interested you should definitely go for it.🧠

    4:02 you mean for a college internship right?

      As far as i understand in psychology you will need to apply your theoretical knowledge in practical situations ofcourse memorization will be required to some extent but i don't think it will that hard as biology because in psychology we don't have to remember names of medicine....we have to understand the concepts and memorization to some extent
      Hope this helps ( i am clearly not someone with experience in this field it's just my opinion )
